    Love it! Leo Fender knew what he was doing by making the ultimate working man's guitar. It's fun to see how folks tweak 'em to make them their own. Thanks for the share!!

      Like an old Chevy motor eh! One wrench to rule them all! Miss my 67 Impala. Leo really did give us the ultimate DIY blueprint eh!

    Great video, fun to watch. I recognize that nut situation. That’s the ole “one too many passes with the file” spot.

    Really gone down the rabbit hole of watching the Shed videos this weekend! And, that Brett Papa video where you demonstrate the "stutter" guitar stuff. Watched that one 2 more times this weekend.

    • @ResponseAudio
      @ResponseAudio 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      One of the keys to getting some of that stutter stuff working better (for me) was to lighten up my right-hand touch. I am guilty of doing everything with too much force and my right hand tightens up.

    Wow just saw you in Tucson with Rodney. The SONG YOU WROTE FOR YOUR WIFE WAS BEAUTIFUL. And you didn’t hardly talk.
    Saw you with Rodney and Will playing in Franklin Tn
    A few years back.
    Excellent

    I grind the bottom of my Fender saddles as well- for better contact, and to keep the tops of the screws from sticking up above the saddle too far and bothering my right hand. BTW- that’s some high-tech nut work there Jedd.

      hahahaha yes my nut fettish has gotten the better of me on this one! I borrowed Albert Lees old trick.

    Saw ya last nite in Tucson and had seen you couple times before and and really liked your playing, but had not heard a lot of your acoustic or songs, which was a treat! Liked Hollywood song that i think co wrote with Guy. Dig the Parsons Stringbender and have always enjoyed hearing Marty playing the original! Love 60's neck plate tone!

    Hey, Jedd, beautiful Tele!
    May have to try one of the Fralin necks. Cool trick on the saddle screws too. I’ve also read that sanding down the bottom of the bridge plate, on something dead flat, works wonders as well. Better surface contact….thanks for the rundown!

    • @richweinstock2069

      So great he hit that critical point. I’ve been doing that on tele setups for years.
      I also like using correct vintage straight screws. Also shorten the screws so they’re not proud of the saddles ripping up your palm.
      Key is to first mark the screw position, lock tite them in place. Remove saddle and cut the screws perfectly with a Dremel disc.

      @JeddHughesOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a couple of funny Eric Johnson stories on the Andy Wood interview with Ian Thornley. From what I remember, Ian was in the room when Eric told him the order of the screws in the panel on the base of a pedal needed to be changed. And, he rearranged the order of them until they sounded how he wanted! Then, I think he proceeded to rearrange the order of the screws in the speaker baffle in a 4x12 cabinet.

    Appreciate the screw flattening tip. I had never thought of it. I’m building a dog hair ash tele-silver gilt cream over black dyed body with nitro clear coats. Eric Dawe neck pickup and a Peter Florance 60 bridge(?)…me thinks. Classic V shape neck. My first tele guitar.

    I got the same ash info from MusiKraft - the ash borer problem. I feel lucky to have bought two 1-piece ash bodies from them with nice grain and good weights while available.

      @JeddHughesOfficial Good luck finding one! Stewmac has some, but they don't give the weights online - maybe worth calling them. I put Ron Ellis pickups in both my builds! Your videos sold me on the 50B. Luscious tone.

    We just took down one of our ash trees in our yard due to Emerald Ash Borer. I was hoping to get some good guitar wood but no luck.
    Your tele is very nice, great work
    Love to build me a B Bender guitar one day.

    Interesting to hear your details - I’ve been building Teles for many years.
    For bodies I’ve found THE best source is Mario Martin in Nashville. MJTs miss the mark IMO and the shape is not correct. Close but not to my standards.
    Necks - All Parts with medium jumbo.
    Great to hear these two points I’m right with on you on.
    Shaving down the fat 9.5 radius all parts necks 💣
    Flatting the saddle screw bottoms to make perfect contact with the bridge plate 💣
    Best offset brass saddles I’ve found are 5/16” from Philadelphia Luthier supply.

      Just picked me up one of those fat allparts necks you mentioned. Any tips you can offer regarding reshaping? Thanks in advance.

    • @richweinstock2069
      @richweinstock2069 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Strumbum01first thing is to block and clamp to a board mounted perpendicular to the bench so you have control. I cut some stops so the heel is clamped and trapped in a pocket to stop any movement.
      The headstock and will need to be blocked and clamped as well.
      Mind you this procedure is just for a v shape. The taper is there. Go easy. I work with a medium curved rasp to grab some material at a 45° angle then smooth the radius out with a stainless woodworking scraper card. Finally 120 > 220 > lacquer and twang 😅

    Will you be playing with Rodney Crowell on a cruise, I believe in March 2024?

  • @pharmerdavid1432
    @pharmerdavid1432 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sweet build, it probably wasn't inexpensive getting the bender installed, I've always wanted one of those. The thinner bridge gives it more of a "plinky" sound? Eric Johnson actually prefers the plastic saddles Fender used on strats back in the day - no bones about it. Making a parts guitar is the way to go, then you can customize everything to your preferences, as you did. Pulling the pots and cap out of a 1955 lap steel seems extreme, but there are no rules in the quest for tone. I also have one of those Fralin necks I got off Reverb at the price Allparts sells them for before Fralin's mark-up. I like chunky, but it's at the extreme edge of what I can play with my medium paws. I was planning on doing what you did, shaving it down to a soft V. I don't usually like vintage frets, but these are just high enough to bend on. Now you have a telecaster better than anything you could have bought, customized to your preferences!

    I ended up with an ash Telecaster before I knew anything. I couldn't figure out how a piece of wood could be that heavy. It felt like concrete no exaggeration. I guess the heavy stuff is easier to find. I heard different parts of the tree have different weights.
