Michael, bought this cab and rates up there with my Star Wars cab. I raised both cabs 4”, added lit coin doors and real t-molding. I know they aren’t the “real” thing but they r close enough for me. I custom built Donkey Kong and Tron cabs from scratch and was looking to build these but after seeing the Sw and DL from Arcade1up I felt it was easier to buy theirs and do minor mods. Two cabs that will always be in my collection.
I think I last saw this cabinet about 1988 and I've always wanted to see one again. The original was such a standout in the arcade. It amazed me when I was a kid.
The Brick Canada has this Arcade1Up 'Dragon's Lair' arcade cabinet for sale today, Cyber Monday, November 27th, 2023, for $499.95 which is $300 off and with free shipping. I just scooped one up. :)
Spent a fortune on this back in the 80’s in arcades and I’ve probably bought every version of Dragons Lair from C64 to Amiga to CDi to PC to PS3. Was one of my all time favourites and this cab is gorgeous. But for some reason I haven’t bought it, haven’t got a lot of space at home and playability is not great once you learn the moves. If I had an arcade room I’d buy it tonight. Maybe one day I might get it. Also loved Space Ace as that was funny. Thanks for the info. Guess you have to play it on a stool if it’s low.
Good review! I’ve had Dragons Lair from A1UP since it came out and I love it. The cab design, marquee, control panel, and side art brings huge nostalgia to me. My cab usually serves as functional art piece furniture in my arcade as I rarely play it and it’s mainly on attract mode. That’s what I like though.
Mine is both, contrary to popular belief i do play my cabs...Im not saying all the time but when im down in my arcade playing them the rest are on as well so i get that ambience
Absolutely love my DL cab as well! One of my top 3 and sparked my addiction with A1Up as this is pure arcade nostalgia from my youth! I would never have noticed the audio issue if others had not called it to my attention! The unit is beautiful!

Great review! I just scooped one up from Best Buy and used some of my points which saved me about 100 bucks off the 549.00 , I'm also getting the Space Ace waterfall deck from Mod1up and a riser extender from Buystuff. Just need to get some Space Ace side art and marquee, and it will be all good. As always, stay clean, stay safe, and game on my brotha! GO! PACK! GO!
If they’re gonna go any further with the coin door, they might as well make it a legit coin op and supply a couple dummy coins that just happen to be the same dimensions as a quarter. If their intent is to recreate the arcade at home, then let’s see it! Oh the the pure satisfaction of inserting a coin. It’s such a great feeling.
Great review Michael. You make me want one of these cabs. I am happy with my iiRcade versions on Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, and Dragon's Lair 2 I have right now. The cab looks nice.
This is my flagship marquee cabinet in my collection and it looks great beside my Indiana Jones skinned ALP. I have the mod1up deck arriving next week, and will probably pick up the 4” riser from buystuffstore in the near future. Very much considering adding their space ace topper as well, since I was really hoping that cabinet would be released (and it would highlight what I consider to be the best game on the cabinet).
Happy New Year Mike. From what I remember about the marquee on the original Dragons Lair is that it was made out of a textured plastic hence the grainy look of the 1up.
I agree I wish they made it bigger. I am a huge DL fan and the Audio issue is so small it doesn’t ruin the experience for me. I would have rather had it closer to a full size cab though.
So strange that this lands the day after I received mine having picked it up in the pre-Christmas GAME sale. So far very happy with my purchase, looks great, plays great and looks great amongst my other cabs. Only negative is the lack of high score tracking, but that's what the Sidekicks App is for. Great review as ever.
So far I'm really enjoying the Dragon's Lair cab. -I got my unit from The Brick which didn't arrive until months after the USA launch. 😒 -I'm 5'7" and don't have any height issues with the cab. -The downward viewing angle on the monitor is how the original cab was too. -I swapped out the fixed square gate for an adjustable one from my spare AC1up parts and rotated it to the diamond position. -The flat spot on top of the marquee would have been perfect for a secondary display. Too bad no HDMI out like the KI Pro. -The cartoon graphics look really sharp on a LCD. AC1up may have also upscaled the image to be HD. -Because this version of the game isn't running from laserdisc it is missing the brief access times from the original cab (an improvement IMO).

Wait…space Ace has randomness. There are 3 difficulties that can be used to cut out difficult scenes but some levels will mirror/flip randomly and there are alternate scenes if you choose not to “power up” Dexter to ace in certain levels.
The attract mode not working in DL is utter nonsense. How could you not mention this major problem? It's so annoying that I'm thinking of selling mine.
I agree that is irritating, there apparently is a quick fix to hold down the player 2 button to reset the game after you come out of gameplay that will get the attract mode running again
I'm very happy with mine. I have a couple of the same "nit-picks." The cabinet should be taller, the artwork on the riser leaves a little to be desired, and the light-up marque should be taller. I'm not big on the missing waterfall effect on the control deck, and I don't notice any audio problems except for when Daphne is talking in the Dragon's Lair (I don't know what other people notice and I am an expert at these games and I didn't pick up on anything). I also don't care about online leaderboards because Arcade 1Up's WIFI does NOT work anyway.
@@geopioneergsxr5357 All I get on my Tron is "unable to contact the Arcade 1Up server. Please check your network settings." My ISP sent a tech out to my house and he said the "network settings" are fine. I contacted Arcade 1Up and I think I'm dealing with a "bot" because every time I ask a question I get a nonsensical response. Their WIFI is junk and doesn't work.
@@andyauthor2007 Sounds like you obviously have a bad connection for whatever reason. Nothing to do with Arcade 1up though. Like I said, it's all perfect 100% since day 1 for me and I fight strangers from across the country daily without ever a glitch or slow down at all. Maybe you got a broken modem. 🤷♂️
About the height, do you still have two Buy Stuff Arcade riser boosters, 4 and 6 inch, that you reviewed a year ago? Curious to see the difference between the two on this cabinet, in terms of comfort and visibility while standing and on a stool. Thanks for the great review and happy new year! 🍻
Hi Michael - big question for me. I have what they call -chronic motion sickness - which in the world of video games, means my head can only handle 8 bit systems. I believe that even though they use laserdisc technology to make Bluth’s art that much stunning- the system should still be in 8 bit. Can you confirm or deny this please ? Thank you. I’m writing to you on 4-8-23.
Nice review. The one smallish OCD-inspired mod hat I would would make is to add screw caps. For the nominal cost, I can't imagine why Arcade1up doesn't include these with all of their cabinets.
It’s a great representation of the arcade counterpart but it is not user friendly. I had company on New Year’s and people were utterly confused on this cab. They had a better understanding with DL2 with its linear pacing but the original DL and SA were a no go. Nostalgia fans will pick it up and the original arcade game intimated me as a kid. I think I dumped .50 in it one time and was just as confused.
Only one of my seven that doesn’t work, unplayable right after assembly. Control deck turns machine on so ribbon cable works but all controls 100% unresponsive. Can’t select or start game but attract mode comes on after a few minutes which pisses me off more because I can’t play. My only other issue is my KI light strip doesn’t light up but I was VERY disappointed with my DL cab, and it wasn’t cheap. My son watched the attract mode and really wants to play it as well. Not cool!
Get a hold of Arcade1up. Ive owned my outrun for over 2 years and the board just crapped out. I contacted them and explained the problem and they are sending me one for free. Definitely should contact them because they will take care of it.

Would have been nice to include Dragon's Lair III though admit-tingly that was an Amiga/PC release so that would have been some work to emulate alongside the arcade roms.
Hopefully you saved the box that it comes in? You can do some wonderful things w/ the artwork on the box. If you get a chance, go over to my channel and look for the subject called Arcade 1up Dragon's Lair Topper made from cardboard packaging. If you thought your cab was short, this kinda of helps in the overall height department.
Nah, leaderboards would be dumb for games like DL. You'd have like 1000's of people all tied for first as it's pretty easy to max the score on this machine.

I want the cab but am holding off until the audio sync issue that some experience is resolved. Same for T2.

My grip and it’s minor is that when attract mode is on it goes through once, then stops, and doesn’t play agian

The WiFi works perfectly on my Killer Instinct cabinet. I get perfect software updates, and I fight strangers daily without any problems ever.

How does the replay value factor in? Once you get the patterns memorized, is the cab less appealing?
Probably, but if you are a hard core fan you will have plenty or replay value.

Yeah someone mentioned including Space Ace 2 as well, and honestly my amiga knowledge is pretty limited
Dragon's Lair III and Space Ace 2 were not releases from Don Bluth. Yes... Amiga/PC released those but in my book, they don't count.

There is no SPACE ACE 2??? What version are you talking about. Space Ace by Don Bluth is included on the cab as well as DRAGONS LAIR II
There was NO release of Dragon's Lair III and Space Ace 2 from Don Bluth.
