    Besides Tomo Zo (who you can't even look at without smiling back), I really love that Hammond B3-like sound that Oreo has going. More of that, please! Love this band!

    Wow, what an enjoyable song. Another reason Tomo-zo has become one of my favorite guitarists. The call-response between Yuri and Tomo-zo was an added bonus. I'll admit that I wasn't certain about the addition of Yuri when I first heard her but not only has she more than proven herself as a superb drummer, she is also a great addition to this band of talented musicians.

      I very much agree with you. In my book she shares the top spot with Kanami and M&M. Her playing complements and balances with everyone else in GS that it's easy to overlook her. No flash, all musical substance, and then she gets to shine in gems like this.

      @@davidarcus5131 I think Kanami & Miyako have a leg up on her since they are composers/pianists as well. But Tomo easily fits in with Midori/ Hazuki (Nemophila).

      @@yolandria Tomo-zo composes for Gacharic Spin, she wrote most of "MindSet" and "I Wish I" for example, all members compose for Gacharic Spin however, and Hana does a lot of the arrangement work.
      Also worth noting Tomo-zo can play piano, you can see her playing on "Peace" from their 1st Anniversary DVD from back in 2010 for example: th-cam.com/video/OhCJ9cVx-cM/w-d-xo.html

      @@yolandria I understand that TOMO-ZO actively participates in the music-writing for Gacharic Spin. She at least collaborated on the song "I Wish I," and the songs that make up the "Fantasy Medley," "Magic Umbrella Girl," and her instrumentals from 2018 and 2022's "I want to take a walk" are her creations. She plays digital piano on one of the songs in the first anniversary live video. So, yeah, she checks all those boxes. Truthfully, all of these guitarists earn "The Best" title in their own right. They are all phenomenal musicians and help make their bands what they are.

    These are musicians of the highest caliber, right up there with Rie aka Suzaku/The Muses, Daisuke Kurosawa's various ensembles, Tokyo Groove Jyoshi et cetera. To view Gacharic Spin as merely an electronic pop group (as seems to be too often the case) is a major error. I seriously compared these ladies to early Yes the other day and feel they could just as well release a full-on Progressive Rock concept album, instrumental Fusion, probably City Pop if they wanted to do so.

    Question for the guitar gurus: how does TOMO-ZO turn off her octaves at the 1:05-1:06 mark when she's away from her effects box? I can't see her manipulating anything on her guitar. Just curious as to how that works?

      @@nanakakitano9724 Thanks for the earlier comprehensive explanation, which I'd overlooked.. I think the closest I've come to anything like 2) is on a digital keyboard which changed sounds while I was playing without my doing anything except playing, as if the bank/tone changes had been pre-programmed; not using digital keyboard extensively I didn't explore this technology further. It was enough for me to learn how to work a preset combination sequencer on pipe organ, which is my primary instrument. That still involves activating a control handier to access than the actual preset or reversible piston. I think digital keyboards have a foot control like what Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) uses to change sounds without having to switch keyboards or being constrained by a pre-programmed sequencer. 1) puts the onus on the roadie, but I guess that's frequently one of their tasks, if they're musically astute and quick enough. 1a) would keep a bandmate on their toes, especially if they were "taking a walk" for a much-needed break in a single-act show of 2+ hours (longer than this livestream, I realize)!

    How does she change the tone of her guitar without stepping on pedals? Does she have a Caddie?

    • @homegnome2429
      @homegnome2429  ปีที่แล้ว

      All programmed through the midi amp as far as I understand but I'm sure some actual guitar/musician people can correct/elaborate.

    • @nanakakitano9724
      @nanakakitano9724 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a few possibilities:
      1. Roadie who knows the song is doing it backstage with pedals (this is the technique Metallica use)
      1a. Might be Angie doing it from backstage as she's shown she can be trusted with controlling the pedals while Tomo-zo plays (see performance of Magic Umbrella Girl) and her and Hana are offstage for this performance.
      2. Tomo's Kemper amp is being controlled by a DAW sequence that they're playing along with - we know they play along with DAW audio that gives them e.g. in-ear metronomes so they can start together on time with no-cue (see performance of Reverse Psychology on this channel) and also in-ear reference notes for all coming in together singing in the correct key without a reference we can hear (see the performance of 365日 on Gacharic Spin's official channel, theoretically they could all have perfect pitch but that's unlikely, I believe Hana does though). This is the technique Meshuggah use.
      It could be any of those suggestion, but I don't recall Tomo-zo using DAW sequences for amp control before so I'm inclined to lean towards 1 or 1a, but there's no reason it couldn't be 2. The issue with effectively leaving a running computer program to control your amp settings is you have no room to adapt on the fly, which is a test of skill and precision, but means you can't say respond to audience interaction and loop a section out a bit longer if you feel like it. (Unless you take it to the next level and have someone backstage with the DAW open you can send commands to to edit it while it's running, potentially scary).

    • @homegnome2429
      @homegnome2429  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nanakakitano9724 Thanks - I'm pretty sure it is 2 in this case. When Angie was doing the pedals it was for variable expression rather than the consistent change in tone and I don't see why they wouldn't show it if it were the case. Plus they don't really go off on the fly or jam from the performances I've seen, so it being pre-programmed to a click makes most sense, especially with the number of changes.
