  • Today I'm unboxing this gorgeous blue lyre that was sent to me! With a slightly more than 2 octave range from G3-A5, it's a beautiful instrument for a reasonable price. Grab your own on Amazon here: amzn.to/3gbAkNQ

    I've been looking for a small transportable plucked instrument to just have fun. With so many options to choose from, I decided to see what you have reviewed. The sound is really nice! and OMG the plurble is so beautiful!

      It is so pretty! It's a great option for what you're looking for 😊

    That is beautiful! Darn you for making me want to buy yet another instrument! I already have an 10-string lyre that is strung bass-ackwards similar to this one. But that it is just how I would want it to be since I am not a harpist. I hold it with my left hand and strum with my right across my body auto-harp style, sorta.

      Well, since the price was about what I paid for my 10-string, I went ahead and ordered a mahogany colored 16-string lyre from your link. I hope you get a "kick-back" because of your recommendation! lol
      (I swear to myself this is the LAST instrument I am gonna buy for a while! Been on a spending-spree lately and I am running out of money!)

    I have been thinking about learning how to play the lyre and actually shopping for my first lyre. Listening to different reviews on lyres It sounds like different ones sound differently. Can you please do a video and talk about the different sounds you get. such as the differences between a flat board lyre and one with an open whole.

    Thanks for the review. I wonder what the lyres with 24 strings from Amazon sounds like. Noone that I have found has made a good review of that. I was thinking maybe they have a better/louder sound because they are bigger. Just a tip for a video.
    Also I would love to hear more full songs played on the lyre, without effects, to get a better idea of how it sounds. Not that you have to do any of that of course, it is just something I have been searching for and the reason I found your channel :) have a nice day!

      Thanks so much for your feedback! I do want to try one of the 24 string models, they look well designed 😊

      I'm wondering about the order of the strings. The 24 string models look like they are reversed.

    I really like the blue finish and the little metal plate around the base of the strings. It looks really nice. I like my lyre a lot but it only has 7 strings.

      There's such different techniques between the lyres with 7-10 and those with more strings they're almost like different instruments to me. This is more like a harp with tiny string spacing 😂 I love my little lyres for how easy it is to do those block and strum chords!

    Did you ever make a video about coloring the strings?

    Do you feel 19-stringed lyres truly have many more options for song selections than ones with 16 strings? I want to get the Cega one but can't decide. What are the pros/cons of each?

    Hi! Thanks you for your reviews, I’ve been meaning to get a lyre and your channel helped me immensely to chose one. I was wondering if you’ve made the video about decorating your lyre in order to navigate better, because I can’t seem to find it. My lyre just came today and finding the notes on first glance seems to be the most challenging part for me, especially since I have astigmatism!

      I haven't made that one yet! It must have gotten lost in the shuffle. Now I have an idea for next week though, thank you 😊

  • @journeyintothebible

    I just bought this. It's a cool instrument. I wonder if you could tune this to a chromatic scale?

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You absolutely could! It would limit your range, of course, and you might want to change the strings near the two edges (thicker ones where they are thinner and slightly thinner ones where they are thicker) 😊

    Can you play harp songs on it like "Peach Plum Pear" by Joanna Newsom or aren't there enough strings?

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know that song in particular (I'll have to find it!) But since Joanna plays a pedal harp, I imagine there's not enough strings 😩

    Is it easy to tune? I’m a keyboard and woodwind player and relatively new to strings. This sounds nice. I already ordered a 16 string . Do bad this company doesn’t make a 10 string.

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
