I keep getting comments saying that if you live in the EU, this video doesn’t show up in their feed, search results, or even on my channel. Let me know if you’re watching this from the EU! I need to check! Thanks!
I personally think Ubisoft brought this hate mob upon themselves by making statements that they were “committing to historical accuracy” with Shadows to build hype. People usually defend this game by saying “its just a game it doesn’t need to be accurate” etc and that argument kind of falls apart when their own director and marketing team is pushing hard for that they’ve wanted to make this game as authentic as possible. Edit: great video like always
As a Canadian who has loved Japanese culture since childhood and always wanted a Assassin's Creed game set in Japan, I refuse to support this game. It's an insult to Japanese in so many ways and Ubisoft is ignoring Japanese people, who are rightfully angry about this racist and disrespectful game. People who defend this game are ignorant and blind. Please take heart in that not all North Americans blindly support this game and do have respect for Japanese and their culture. Many of us are not going to support this game.
I’m Thai, a race that’s often looked down on-lower than Black people, East Asians, or even animals, it seems. We get kill/assault a lot by Black Why do most Canadians seem to worship this game and woke ideology? I know not all Canadians are like this, but many Canadian people and artists come across as extremely woke-even Chinese Canadians. They’re often more woke than Americans. Their attitudes feel strange to me, especially when it comes to politics. I’ve seen some of them discuss the U.S. election, and their ignorance amazes me. It’s odd, I guess? I’m sure this doesn’t represent all Canadians, but almost every one I’ve encountered has been like this. I didn’t try to insult your nation, just really curious about it
It's so funny that the player wasn't able to kill civilians in Assassin's creed Valhalla, where you are a literal viking raiding villages and burning houses, and now you can, without any reason.
The fact that the only game in which you can kill civs is Rogue, the one the guy was so traumatized after causing the Lisbon Earthquake he defected the Brotherhood to stop more deaths, is peak irony.
@@haengeltheknight1212no there is odyssée also, you can kill unlimited people but you get mercenaires on your back and its almost impossible to play if you dont pay thé bounty not because is hard tho but because you can’t do two step without getting attack but in this pièce or trash of ac shadow there is no punition or reason to do that
This "feature" was probably meant to be interpreted as an innocent upgrade to the player's options vs. past games, but the developers fully understood the context of what they were doing. Why did they add the option? The same reason they made the main protagonist black. Think about that.

You have no clue how long we fight that shit in anime and manga translations already. Over freaking 15 years! We want those translations as accurate as possible, but everything gets washed up instead. That is the reason unoficial sites grow. And the moment your gouvernment finally took a look at it, they attacked us, instead of questoning why. There was an unofficial translator that explained even play on words. Thats the quality i want, instead i cant even wipe my ass with it. Last year you finally saw what happens, because they had to make a reprint, since they changed the core of the story and even the mangaka nearly sued. Those are the people we fight against for years.
I'm with you on that. We had to endure that for a long time. You guys have every right to be not just angry but furious with how these pricks at Ubisoft are handling this.
p*ss off man... With your profile picture of a franchise that ended on a cliffhanger and never released Half Life 3. You have no right to sh*t on Ubisoft.
Ubisoft should, 100%, be banned from Japan. They hate Japan, falsified academic records to the point a University banned the idiot enrolled in their university, and continue to treat Japanese like monkeys. It's sadly a bigger issue, though banning Ubisoft shall be a great relief for Japan, there's still more to be done. Aid those who are suing Ubisoft over plagiarism, and push for any bans. Japanese people really need to fan the fires on this to fully ban Ubisoft from Japan over social terrorism, or something along those lines. Have to also ban Western political sabotage and protests being held in Japan, that's also another issue Japan is facing. These same "western protesters" are also harassing tourists & Japanese alike and they need to be fully banned & removed from Japan without mercy. Do what Trump is doing and pull the Band-Aid off in one straight go. Ubisoft also needs to be banned in the Western world, just as much as they should be in Japan. It's noted Ubisoft is going bankrupt, they however need to perish sooner, not later.

@@thatfinnishguy6575it's not racist, it's a hate crime though. I mean a black guy is killing innocent japanese unarmed people. Let's understand it properly. First of all, old AC games didn't allow killing civilians, but when it came to this specific game, you can kill innocents too? Also, samurai didn't usually kill civilians they were hired to protect civilians, let alone a BLACK SAMURAI in FEUDAL Japan. Do you really believe a black samurai went in innocent killing spree and japanese didn't do anything to him, like maybe cut his head off? Also make note that in that time frame, japanese were hella racist themselves. Would they really allow a black guy to do that? Where is this a historical accuracy and how is this not a hate crime?
Bro if the fat character isn't upper class I'm gonna flip a freakin brick. I'm not japanese but I at least know that typically in Feudal Japan if you are overweight it is directly because you can afford to be overweight.
The biggest crime is leaving all the harvested rice outside on the ground and exposed to the elements, the rice is going to rot and there will be a famine
As a fellow Asian, I deeply relate to this feeling of being both ignored and stereotyped. We face overt racism from outside our communities, but also must confront internalized biases. The call for respectful, authentic games from Asian developers is vital - it's a powerful way to reclaim our narratives and challenge harmful stereotypes.
No different then every african american being stereotyped as a thug or a rapper. People choose to judge on appearance instead of understanding a person character.
@@godssalvation87 Yeah, but honestly, the male protagonist should have been Japanese like Mizuno Katsunari or Gamo Ujisato. Yasuke should have been like Basim, and playable like Lydia Frey and dlc.

The japanese game companies who were the kings before have now mostly been swallowed up by california and US lunacy and even when indies like palworld, their own globalist nintendo tries to lawfare them. So we dont exactly have the unity in our homebase to fight these lunatics. SEA should try and mix themselves in these spaces with great stories, games, and products too.
The problem is their 'expert' fabricated the story they based this game on, stretching definitions to fit the story they wanted to tell and then passing it off as history. The company then relied heavily on that false history rather than actually looking for conflicting accounts, even hiring that 'expert' to help build their game world.

@@jdotcarter8882 Context is key here. It’s not just about brutality. After all we have mortal kombat. I mentioned it being like they want people to hate Yasuke. Yasuke is an actual person that existed, and this kind of depiction puts a massive stain on his legacy. If he were alive and seeing this, how’d he feel? He was a real person so historical accuracy must be adhered to. I’m pretty sure the real Yasuke didn’t go around batting people’s heads off. If it was a fictional character, it would’ve been better. They should’ve made Leonidas act like this in Odyssey, if they’re serious about historical accuracy lol.

とても理路整然とした意見であり、決してBANされることではない内容の動画です。あまりにも問題点が一目瞭然なので、これが人の目に触れることを恐れてのUBIの反応でしょう。日本から応援させていただきます。 All of your logic is clear, and there is nothing that you should be banned for. Clearly, the problems are so obvious that UBI didn’t want people to see this video. My strongest support as a half Japanese.
In the first place, there are many famous samurai in Japan, but the fact that they chose such a nobody who has done nothing historically as the main character shows that they have no intention of paying any respect to Japanese culture or history. In Japan, UBI changed the description of Yasuke from "legendary samurai" to "Ikki Tousen 一騎当千 (a soldier worth a thousand soldiers)," but I also feel uncomfortable calling Yasuke Ikki Tousen. By the way, why is that fat guy called Yaya?
Sad that they had to ruin the Anime name of Ikki Tousen', was such a nice teaseful Anime. As for "Yaya', some idiot in Ubisoft being a highly generic "anime fan" saw a random Anime, hijacking it for their cause. We know the answer to your last question, it's because Ubisoft has no care and respect in the world.
@@ArcticuKitsuThe phrase 'Ikki Tousen' is of course older than the anime, though. It is a variety of sayings called "Yojijukugo", which means 4-letter short sentence. There are a lot of them in the Japanese language, just like idioms in English.

Guys, the game director said that originally they didn't even plan to add black “samurai” to the game. They split one hero into two...and it looks terrible from a game design standpoint. The game would be many times more interesting if we were a ninja spy who could pretend to be a samurai to eliminate targets, with the ability to be both a tank in armor and a stealthy assassin.

He enjoys the freebies, DLCs, trips to Disney and much more in exchange of course for his good words on Ubisoft games. He'll never say a seriously negative thing about AC! He's Ubisoft's adopted son after all
Shohei you have evey right to be upset, its shitting on your culture. Dont wory about the negative coments. You will always get those whatever we do. Just to point something out though, what's the deal with the crusader cross on the samurai armor? I'm still going to buy and make fun of it, but only if it goes 75% off.
Christianity was first introduced to Japan in 1549 by the Jesuit missionary Francis Xavier, who landed in Kagoshima. Successful initially, much converts, especially among the daimyō in Kyushu, rapid spread of Christianity. The armour? I don't know about that, but my guess is they read about that.
AC fans could recognize that cross easily. Yasuke is a Templar, they're cosmetic. Like the armor in AC Rogue. Doesn't even have anything to do with Christianity in the context of this game.
It is the mark of the Knights Templar. Unlike the Knights Templar, the historical Christian Knights, they are, quite simply, the villains in this game series. (Some people are different...). In historical fact, Portuguese merchants at this time needed the signature of a Christian priest when selling or buying Japanese slaves. Although some priests were against such slave trading, the priests who brought Yasuke to Japan also signed. Nobunaga and Hideyoshi banned the slave trade, but the worst practices were kept secret until eventually Japan was closed off to the rest of the world. I am not sure how the story goes, but I suspect that Yasuke was forced to cooperate with the Templar slave traders at the behest of the priests when he first arrived in Japan. Since Yasuke was taken away from his hometown not of his own volition, it would make sense with the history if he regretted his cooperation with the Templars' misdeeds and started cooperating with the Order of Assassins (which believes in freedom).
I am glad they called you the Reisis because nobody would believe me if I said there's alot of Americans or even Westerners started to call Japanese the R word. There's even more in Twitter and Reddit. As long as you aren't supporting Yasuke is a Samurai narrative you become one.

That's how they ended up with Torii gates everywhere and huge Sakura trees blooming in the summer.
As a Western consumer, I don't know if my standards are too high, but after reading the Vagabond comic and watching old Chanbara films, this game seems very weak.
Most of us older than 30, were still able to experience a lot of Japanese media/entertainment intact, with only the obvious changes based on our respective regions' proclivities for localization. You don't have high standards, you just expect a culturally intact production with little contamination from other cultures. The irony that Ubisoft is some hub of progressive values and respect for indigenous cultures, yet they are going out of their way to spit on every old culture on the planet, to wedge their personal hippie narrative in. Since this game is not Japanese, but just a game loosely based on Japanese historical fiction, I'm not going to give much credence to it. Ubisoft made their bed, and now they have to lie in it. A team of white liberals appropriating someone else's culture to make their game, should have at least tried to be more respectful, considering it's supposedly their mission statement.

I have been waiting for Ubisoft to make an AC game set in the Sengoku period since AC2... and now that they're FINALLY releasing it.... I feel like I will just spare myself the heartache of how horrible this game looks. Not just in terms of graphics, but in terms of literally everything.

Dude, I've never been actually disgusted by a game before. This goes beyond gaming. A gigantic black dude absolutely brutalizing small Japanese men is so atrociously offensive and gross. I've never wanted a game to fail more.
The first time i was really disgusted by a game was when i played Horizon Zero Dawn...before that, i played some bad games, but nothing that disgusted me to that point...
It's difficult to grasp different cultures in any country, so it's no wonder Westerners can't distinguish between Japan and China, but if you want to make a serious game, hiring an actual Japanese history expert in Japan would have solved the problem.
Multi-million dollar company could of paid for their developers to go to Japan for 6 months and do a tour. Probably would of paid dividends as this wouldn't of been a slap in the face of Japan, Asia, and Africans.
As someone who grew up in New York, I always had friends with different ethnicities. Now, when it came to Hollywood movies, the phrase : "always a bridesmaid never a bride" basically summarizes the entirety of the Asian experience in American entertainment. Girls can have a cool Hong Kong friend or boys can have a cool Japanese friend, however, you don't really see any Asian characters taking center stage. (There are exceptions of course)

I'm not sure if I can explain it well, but at least I don't want to blame people who are purely enjoying the game. They may really be innocent. The people we should truly raise our voices against are UBI and those who slander and willingly engage in racism while understanding the issue of UBI. As long as it is not clear the player intentionally trying to harm Japanese history and culture, I don't want to corner him too aggressively. I remember that the Harry Potter game was under intense attack for a while, and pure Harry Potter fan players were subjected to various slanders. I was very disappointed by that incident. Therefore, I hope that similar tragedies do not occur. I used to live in Cairns for 5 years, and as a Japanese who love our own history and culture, I really appreciate your support! Thank you mate!
Bro this video is accurate how I felt to watching the review of the game. I got a notification from Ubisoft that it was coming out and they said that Yasuke was a samurai and I was super pissed. Thx for the video I hope it doesn't get taken down. BTW Asmon watched this video!
Thank you as always for your videos in English pointing out misinformation about Japan. I can feel the same malice as Thomas Lockley in the fact that UBI, even at this late stage, is still using different words, saying that Yasuke is a legendary samurai for the overseas market, and saying that he is a one-hit-sen soldier for the Japanese market. (There is no record of Yasuke ever fighting on the battlefield.) It is a relief that people overseas understand UBI's evil deeds against Japan. Every time a new movie comes out it exposes how ignorant, lazy and arrogant UBI are, to the point where it's harder to find the right part. We are getting tired of pointing out their ill-informedness as well. I guess the only way to best market ACS safely is for UBI to publicly state that ACS is not set in Japan.
Yu know man? We live in a era where some dudes cannot cope with the fact that others can have different ideas from them, so they play the racism/hate card, lowering the cultural value of that phenomenon. Peace man, from Italy ✌️💜🫡

Sorry for the looooong post ^^ : Ubisoft has made a lot of speeches and without realizing it, they have sent mixed messages on Shadows. I understand people who defend Ubisoft by saying "it's historical fiction" but I would like them to understand on their side also that Ubisoft by communicating "we will do everything possible to respect Japanese culture as much as possible" and, at the same time, by saying "it's fiction, we have the right to do what we want and take creative liberties", people do not know where to turn and have the impression that it is not historical fiction but fiction pure and simple with some historical elements. (Like the difference between a cherry pie for 6 people with the right amount of ingredients and the one where you just have a spoonful of cherry in it, yes technically, both are cherry pies but the second one is a bit stingy, you will admit). I was not at all aware of the changes between the Japanese and Western versions. I don't understand why all versions are not like the Japanese versions (or rather, I'm afraid to understand and if it's what i think it's really detestable). My sadness and disappointment with what I see now are as high as my hopes and expectations of playing, one day, a """AC Japan""". Several years ago (before AC Origins), we would have probably had something "close" to Ghost of Tsushima. But now, between the possibility of playing a brute character (that fans only moderately appreciated in Valhalla), the enemies who are still HP bags (while players are fed up with that), the AI (! Elite! what's happening to you?!),... Thanks for the video ;)

There was an unofficial translator that explained even play on words. Thats the quality i want, instead i cant even wipe my ass with it.

All of your logic is clear, and there is nothing that you should be banned for.
In Japan,
UBI changed the description of Yasuke from "legendary samurai" to "Ikki Tousen 一騎当千 (a soldier worth a thousand soldiers)," but I also feel uncomfortable calling Yasuke Ikki Tousen.

Changing history in game is fine, a lot of games do it, even Japanese games themselves.. But don't claim it is real, fight against ppl who know it is wrong and refuse to apologize even after mistakes being pointing out..

The saddest part of all this is the fact that this game could have been incredible. This could have been the new Black Flag.
If they actually used Japanese historians as reference for the game, but no, they used a guy off the streets and some books and magazines.
That's how they ended up with Torii gates everywhere and huge Sakura trees blooming in the summer.
i hope Ubisoft goes out of business over this game
It is worse compared to Tenchu Z. If Tenchu Z has hidden blade, that would be a different story

I have been waiting for Ubisoft to make an AC game set in the Sengoku period since AC2... and now that they're FINALLY releasing it.... I feel like I will just spare myself the heartache of how horrible this game looks. Not just in terms of graphics, but in terms of literally everything.
The graphics are bad? What else is bad?
The stealth isn't good compared to previous AC games?
Nor the combat?
Which is your favourite AC game?

Dude, I've never been actually disgusted by a game before. This goes beyond gaming. A gigantic black dude absolutely brutalizing small Japanese men is so atrociously offensive and gross. I've never wanted a game to fail more.

Then how DEI would get money??

As someone who grew up in New York, I always had friends with different ethnicities.
Now, when it came to Hollywood movies, the phrase : "always a bridesmaid never a bride" basically summarizes the entirety of the Asian experience in American entertainment. Girls can have a cool Hong Kong friend or boys can have a cool Japanese friend, however, you don't really see any Asian characters taking center stage. (There are exceptions of course)
JorRaptor stopped being an authentic gamer and became a shill for Ubisoft years ago. He will praise all their slop for the paycheck no matter how bad, buggy and development mess it is.
My girlfriend and I built the Lego bonsai, it comes with pink blooms and we looked up when those trees bloom and decided it would be cool to change them in time with the real trees. What month is this gameplay from, that Watermelon is also in harvest season? They would be 100x better off trying to create some kind of Japan Style Fantasy land, instead they do zero due diligence and advertise it as a faithful recreation. There is going to be enough content made about the game if you want to see how bad it is for yourself, buy new socks and underwear with the $70 you save not buying this game.

It's a good thing You speak out. Much appreciated.
(There is no record of Yasuke ever fighting on the battlefield.)
It is a relief that people overseas understand UBI's evil deeds against Japan.
Yasuke was such a good assassin, he broke the 4th wall and killed off Ubisoft
Yu know man? We live in a era where some dudes cannot cope with the fact that others can have different ideas from them, so they play the racism/hate card, lowering the cultural value of that phenomenon. Peace man, from Italy ✌️💜🫡

Sorry for the looooong post ^^ :
Ubisoft has made a lot of speeches and without realizing it, they have sent mixed messages on Shadows.
Very Chinese in recent trailer. The designs & painting on Shoji straight Chinese.
Not surprised of disrespect because DEI programs & "(inclusion)" in Western nations have most studios filled with "Inclusion" & Inclusion means exclusion of Japanese, Korean, Eurasians, & Eastern-Europeans as well as hetero West Europeans which collectively: 'White Adjacent' & those are considered to be Asians like: Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Laotian, Khmer. Gaming studios in West are around 37% Alphabet peoples, many don't even play games. Most talent were replaced with 'Inlusion'. All part of DEI, BRIDGE, PRI, & funded by Black Rock & Vanguard funds.
Developers clearly don't know the difference between both.
