My understanding of the Timmy is that the tone controls are CUTS and are at unity gain when set fully Anti-Clockwise, unless this is a new version the demo does not show the Timmy at correct settings... Very nice demo, thanks for taking the time!
The ODR-1 isn't really supposed to be a transparent pedal. But hey, did anyone notice, Guitar Bonedo dimed the output control in the gain sweep demo instead of upping the gain!
I hadn't heard that one before this and I really liked it a lot. They're all good but the sweet drive and the Timmy are my favorites. The pantheon and nobles I liked as well.
great test, thank you. Saved me a lot of money as well, I'm just keeping my trusty old Mad Professor Sweet Honey. It will probably stay on the board for decades next to the Zendrive Clone that's never been bettered for +15 years for midgain drive...
I think a pedal that used to get more recognition from this category and I feel is misused is the Fulltone OCD. While it does have a whole lot of gain on tap, I feel like it can go toe to toe with any of these with the gain at 12 or below on the low gain(LP) setting.
But the Fulltone's founder made some nasty remarks about the BLM protests last year, and some artists decided to boycott the company. I got rid of my OCD. He was focused on the vandalism and turned a deaf ear toward the purpose of the protests.
Yeah, he was criticizing the vandals who used to protesters as cover to loot small businesses down the road from his small business, then he was shamed and cancelled on twitter by a bunch of outrage addicted, self-aggrandizing B-list musicians. So he apologized for sticking his nose it. But who cares about context, intent or facts when people can get on a soapbox and make it about themselves. PS, I own the Original OCD from first run, plus several other Fulltones. All top of the line products.
@@chucklakeridge7944 well said!! Free Speech? Only if it aligns with …. (Wasting my time). I own 3 OCDs and other Fulltone pedals. Mike Filler makes awesome products.
Please PLEASE do this again with all the big boys & some cheaper options added: Greer lightspeed, Morning Glory, Blues Driver, EHX Crayon, Mosky MM silver, Moeer Blues Mood etc etc
ODR-1 is clearly a different beast from the others. I’m surprised how similar the Timmy and Pantheon sound given one is a highly modded tubescreamer circuit and the other is a take on a bluesbreaker
...the Pantheon is a Blues Breaker circuit based pedal, not a tube screamer. Also, the Conspiracy Theory is a Klon clone. The ODR-1 is a unique circuit which uses both, soft and hard clipping and is therefore unique sounding.
Sweet drive it's a great pedal but not the most transparent. It's surely the creamiest one. For me Timmy and Pantheon are the most transparent. But it's difficult to choose only one.
Not.Cause most guitar drive pedals cut, or work the bass, to fit well, sound good on gt. Except possibly pedals that have a bass knob before clipping like timmy, But even then it is not guaranteed. The most 100% guaranteed for bass are drive pedals with clean mix knob. With everyone else will always be a risk, you will have to test.
These tones in even better quality I expect from a good amp at almost clean to moderate gain settings or with guitar volume turned down. Had an original Timmy, sounded better than some clones, but had much too little gain for me, so I sold it again. My Vox, Marshall, Orange amps give me better tones without such a pedal.
Does anyone know any overdrive pedals still sound great when amp is only at bedroom levels? Of course they aren’t usually optimized for that at all. Appreciate any insight.
I dont' think that's necessarily true for pedals. For amps, sure. You don't want need a speaker cabinet with 12 inch speakers. But for pedals, just get the best sounding one.
klons aren’t transparent tho. they’re hard clipping mid boost drives. the only reason people think that they’re transparent is because the mid hump doesn’t happen until the circuit clips.
My few words descriptions: Sweet Honey harsh, ugh. ODR-1 thin, fizzy. Conspiracy Theory aggressive. Pantheon modern metal. Timmy why bother, discontinued eh? Low Rider creamy big bodied. Sweetdrive nice like a fine wine.

This is how every pedal shoot out vid should be made. Thank you! Timmy for the win!

Very nice shoot-out. I like the participation of the sweetdrive from sweet spot guitars. Not so known. A discovery for me.

@@hooks4638 I contacted Sweet Spot Guitars fot that pedal. Very friendly guy, answers right a way.. I haven't bought one yet, but it's on my list.

love these pedal reviews man. good work
Sweetdrive gave me an eargasm!
Nice play! I don't think at least Sweet Honey is a transparent pedal.

First : Panthéon is amp like, deep sound 3D
Second : MAD PROFESSOR
Thank for these good test

Love the Sweetdrive.
Pantheon Drive looks awesome

Love that backing track at the beginning..willing to share it?
If the overdrive is truly transparent, the pedal should be able to work on guitar or bass right?
