Are you saying this movie felt like that? To me it felt like finally figuring out to stop letting that toxic co-worker from bothering you anymore and just doing your stuff. The satire is really invigorating in that sense. You feel free to roll your eyes at the ridiculous stuff and focus in on that wonderful wedding 😊
@@phantomfrivolity2169 I suppose there are many levels to the film. I was being a bit self-important by flourishing my interpretation in contrast to a different viewpoint. Both are genuine impressions, and I'm richer if I consider them both. Hopefully my impression can provide the same. I like that saying, I haven't heard it in a long time. Very practical!
I saw American Fiction at the end of January in a small film society theater near Philadelphia. I liked the satire, and the script was interesting all the way through. The ending felt a little post-modern, but not in a bad way. I would tell people to see it, but there was at least as much heaviness as lightness in the total story. It was great to see Jeffrey Wright in this film where he really got to act in a very pure form, i.e. no special effects, no period costume etc.
I don't know enough about post-modernism to pick out discussions in the film, but I felt like the end fit quite neatly into both the personal arc and the satire arc as well, all while keeping the pacing very snappy. That's a really excellent script, and the actors all did a great job attending to each new turn.
Jeffery is one of my favorite actors of all time, so many brilliant roles he's been in, from Manchurian Candidate, Gordon in Batman, Shaft, Basquiat, Westworld, Source Code and so many more.
Great movie! We watched it last night on Prime and it was worth paying $20 for it. A good “grown up” film with a good story and dialogue making you care about the characters and the issues.
Jeffrey Wright is the man! Hunger Games, Westworld, The Last of Us Part II, Batman, ect.. He's so damn cool and I'm happy for his success. American Fiction looks like such a good movie. Can't wait to see it.
I know someone who met this dude he looked up to him as a fellow actor. Had a very close unpleasant encounter. This individual was in tears as they recanted their experience. The moral of the story never meet your hero’s you will be disappointed. Unfortunate because he is very talented.
TH-cam Editing Correction! This Video should be one video of the full interview. The first part pf the interview (which is not labeled as the first part you can add -> PT. 1, PT. 2) has double the amount of views than the second part. To do better on the TH-cam algorithm remember -> Videos that are 10min or longer will help your channel out. Your audience won't have to guess which video of the interview is the first part or hunt for the second part. This comment will go on all your interview videos that are 2 parts until your TH-cam editor makes the correction! Thanks!
Thought this was one of the best films I've seen in a while. If it had only been campy satire it wouldn't have worked, but weaving the family tragedy around it was genius.
If Avery Brooks doesn't want to play Captain Ben Sisko I feel Wright would be amazing in that role. DS 9 ended with a way that could canonically fit a recast if the actor is....Wright IMO
Seth, this is a personal favor request, not from so much a jackal, but an incredibly frequent watcher of the show... Can you ask Jeffery Wright what the brand of his glasses are? That's the style I've been looking for and it has been very difficult to find something like those. Please and thank you if you have time to ask and he has the time to respond.

Love that he credited the screenwriter and author of the original dude. Classy and intellectual dude as always, one of the best to ever do it.
This film proves the incredible value of excellent screenwriting and why the strike mattered so much
Satire really feels like it taps into that human need to laugh because otherwise you'd cry
Absolutely 💯

@@EarlofSedgewickIt's funny because this comment reminds me of the famous saying. "Laugh and the whole world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone."

Absolutely, very insightful

(I think) the peak satire in the film is the "We really need to be listening to black voices" moment.
If you've seen the film you'll know.
Yes!! That's my favorite scene. "I think we're going to go with F%&$."
Made me literally laugh out loud. Most movies, even really funny ones, don't do that.
Oh yeah, I laughed so hard when I watched this scene 😂.
It was pretty funny, I thought it may be too on the nose but on reflection it was just right
I loved that part!

Jeffrey Wright is a Class Act. He was great in James Bond and Westworld and I loved American Fiction!
Movie deserves the Oscar
Any guy who takes care of turtles thrust upon him is my kinda guy!

“we really loved this script” literally as i watched the movie could not stop thinking about how good the story and writing/jokes were
I started listening to Perceval Everett's book, "Erasure"; it is excellent! And audiobooks are the best.
American fiction really is one of the greatest movies of all time
The movie was good, but Jeffrey's acting was wow!
I went to see the movie 🎥 in theaters last Friday and I really enjoyed it.
I loved it for so many elements.
Wonderful film!
For a second there at the end, I thought Seth was going to say "congrats on the turtles"

Love this actor ❤
He makes me question the nature of my reality.
Just left the theatre. Give him the “Fucking” Oscar.
Brilliant movie. Brilliant script. Brilliant acting.
I Really Like Jeffrey Wright So Much And I Think That He's Really Cool
2:44 "but still call me, Michael Bay"
Satire is supposed to make people aware of their shortcomings. But I doubt the people who need this will realize this is directed at them.
That's right, it is really saying what kind of 'diversity' do you want? Identity politics doesn't really offer diversity.
Love him, what a powerhouse actor

Because these violent delights have violent ends.
The movie is outstanding as is well worth a watch.
The ending got more meta than expected, but it was a fun watch.
Social commentary reminded me of Don't Look Up
these are conversations we've been having for decades. was it set in the early 1990s just like the book or the 21st century?

Jeffrey Wright is a great actor…
I saw this film in December. Fucking hilarious. Amazing movie. Gotta see it.
We love your show seth meyers
I like Him
..His content I mean... I don't knw him! America Fiction was great!
Great flick. I know it’s based on a novel, but it’s still a descendant of Robert Townsend’s Hollywood Shuffle.
JW is simply fantastic
Great movie A+ brother
Favoutite post modern comedy 🙏
Such a great film.
I loved this movie!
Peoples Hernandez deserves an Oscar
Great film!!
Great movie ❤
Amazing in the way it showed the racism in most of the anti-racism campaigns these days. Brilliant.
i think you missed the point of the movie lol.
The Watcher
Jeffrey Wright is one of the sexiest men alive.
After watching the movie I can't tell if he's being facetious
♡
I first knew Jeff from Shaft when he had an ice pick. Oscar time.
But, how many eggs hatched??
Now that is an elevator pitch.
He was so good in it, great cast. I wouldnt call it satire though, more like “hollywoodized”
Nice One 🤭
Speaking of franchises, why another spinoff of “The Walking Dead”?
gotta stop diving these interview vids in half
Where tf is Seth Meyers tie. Who does he think he is?

Doesnt Seth Myers realize he's one of the people who's being made fun of?

this is so weird and gross. which is kind of the point

Second time I heard that so just being clear in case that gets applied to me
Tonight on Bald Men with Beards with Seth Meyers. It’s like each guest is a different shade of the same emoji.
