This comeback by Tim is the greatest ironman performance, no others come close, to be on the verge of death and to go on to compete at the highest level again is beyond phenomenal from a physical but mostly a mental perspective.

Rinny said it best, what you did was mind blowing TO. Stuff of Homeric poems!

Great race. A few yrs ago that’s a win. Or a podium at a minimum. It’s a new world. Yours are the broad shoulders on which it stands.

I really wish Tim would share what heart medications he is on, what side effects, how he managed the side effects and does he think they contributed to the level of fitness.. so many of us are struggling with it and it sure would help.

Having many patients on the meds he is probably on, no matter what the cocktail is I am sure it affects his recovery and at age 42 it is augmented. All I can say is that I am sure he is optimizing the things he can control. Watching his caloric Intake, avoiding seed oils, minimizing indulgences and working closely with his practitoner no matter what type practitioner it is: a holistic one or combo holistic with MD input. I tell my friends and patients that you need to taylor your training and do your best to try and minimize the number of pills you need to take. If this means chatting with your practitioner and working with them to get off the pills you can,, then by all means it is worth it. For Tim I imagine he is on an antiplatelet for reducung stickiness of any clot formation in coronaries, and a statin of some sort because it seems he had a genetic familial predisposition. Probably on some sort of blood pressure med all be it low dose just for cardio protective measures. Statin alone will make you feel horrible at times i am sure. These are my 4 cents, I am not advocating you stop any meds without consulting with your provider, and hopefully we can all take a look at optimizing our own diets and lifestyles at any age but especially if over 40. Judging from his body language in this video I would say he is realizing that his financial gaines from racing on big stages are slowly tilting towards too high risk at this point and he and Rinny are very good at judging when it is almost time to step back. Both have amazing coaches and neither one needs anything else to prove. As a 7 time IM finsher and World Champs 70.3 finisher, I can appreciate that it is probably time to step back and enjoy the family which is clear that they both love deeply! Racing for fun and fitness takes over...

You went 26mins faster than Dave Scott did at age 42. That in my book and a ton of people is absolutely legend stuff..........Well done to you Tim, for inspiring and believing.

for sure a respectable performance especially considering what you have gone through. the young guns have changed the sport and an 8 hr in kona doesnt cut it anymore, has jan will find out next year.

8:02 is a podium or even win every year prior to 2019. I'm not saying something is going on....but something might be going on with so many sub 8hr times this year and the whole podium sub 7:45..... We like to portray triathlon as a pure sport that no one would cheat in but I wouldn't be surprised if someone used some enhancements....

What blows my mind is that, despite Tim being a very successful athlete (close to Rinny), Rinny was the faster Kona runner until 3 years ago. Rinny ran a 2:50 when she won here in 2014, and TO didn't beat that until he came 2nd in 2019 with a 2:49. Goes to show what caliber of a runner she is.
