Not sure why people say this doesn’t sound like the original. If you listen 30 minutes into dlp 1.1 it’s actually spot on. The orchestra is trying to simulate the delay and tape feedback with the sudden stops. This is a beautiful rendition, definitely more lighthearted than the original.
Yeah for me it's more important to portray the feel than anything else and they definitely didn't do that but they did create something new that is also beautiful
Stunning. I can’t stop thinking about that performance. Needless to say the original is timeless, but there’s so much to enjoy in the orchestral version. Listening to each player intentionally withdraw is a new dimension.
It was really amazing to hear it in a venue with such good acoustics, I'm gutted I can't find a recording of the dlp 3 arrangement they performed, currently it exists only in my memory :(
@@charliederby4179 I know what you mean - the barbican is one of my favourite venues and home of the LCO. I was hoping to find that someone had recorded Wheel of Fortune too - a scorching live performance.
at my first(?) adulthood meltdown i listened to the original piece and i had no emotions for once. now a few months later making decisions which are hard to make but seem to be the only ones i can make at this point i listen to this live version and it makes me cry. imagining musicians trying to recreate an disappearing creation of themselves again is beautifully dialectical. feels like this sad world was born with the original while with this live version humans made sense of it, it ends, and it's ok.
it seems like, on the desintegration loop 1, everyone hears a different musical phrase, because what I hear is nothing alike what my friends hear (we asked each other to sing the loop, and everyone sung a different phrase), and what I hear is nothing like this...
I totally agree. Mine is exactly like the one in the video, without the final four notes, and with the third note lengthened. The tune is more like low-high-low protracted.
It comes even weirder. I have known the original for some time now. At first, this live version's phrase seemed somewhat at variance with that of the original. However, when I listened to the original after listening to this live version, I clearly recognised the typical phrase of the latter in the original (even without difficulty). But now, knowing the phrase actually played in the original, that same original actually sounds different to me. Listening to it, I even find it hard to imagine how it sounded to me before my encounter with the live version.
+Matthew Johnson (lymieyouthpastor) Amazing ? When you have a few minutes listen to The The Soul Mining...You can find the album here on TH-cam..Soul Mining by Matt Johnson aka THE THE....The band has been around for decades..
its a live orchestral performance, its not supposed to be exactly the same. If it was there'd be no reason to listen to this over the original. The melody is still pretty faithful too, it just expands on it and offers a different take.
It needs to exist because William Basinski has bills to pay and he'll shamelessly squeeze every bit out of one 6-second loop as is possible. Good for him, I guess.

I watched the London Contemporary Orchestra perform this piece last night in London. It was amazing, a real musical event.

cool live. 1st trombone must hear be hearing this on loop for the rest of their life.
It's so surreal that was played live with an actual orchestra. It's almost like a Philip Glass piece.
Almost got in a car collision while listening to this song 👍
The original sounds more haunting. This one sounds cheerful in a somber way and definitely easier to listen to.
this is a cool attempt on dlp 1.1, it sounds kinda similar, but has a Civil War or World War I vibe
Hi ! I have your new ! Channel I like this album I will out this in my Library so Keep the albums coming your new ! No.1fan !
Where is the original video showing the smoke and dust, a visual unique and beautiful. It gradually changed from daylight to night

Yes, exactly. It is very weird, dlp 1 sounds very ghostly, cloudy and muffled, like it's hard to tell which notes are which.
I actually prefer this one. I didn't at first, but now I think it's better
Amazing!!!!

actually that album is not very good and it's a completely different genre to basinski's shit so idk why you brought it up
you have ruined my life
True
great
0.5x
I hope they play this at the end of the world
u get it
This is dreadful. Totally changes the melody too. Why does this even need to exist?
gold fish
Yeah. For me, the first 2 notes are correct, and then it goes into some multiple eighth notes that I don't hear on the original. What the heck?

@@BradCarlMusic It's a fun way to 'simulate' the pitch warble, no?
