The NZ accent has changed pretty radically over the last fifty odd years.

Not really. This is just how the newscaster talks. Common people back then didn't speak that differently.

priceless footage, thanks for posting it! I remember the toll booths in the late 70's, I was just a kid.
(I notice all the official people are fairly unfit older men who wouldn't have given a single thought to allowing bikes onto this bridge, even in the old days)

Considering how shit the traffic is nowadays I'm glad they have removed the toll fees lol

thanks for the post i had an old Morris Cowley 1924 and when they asked for some of the oldest cars in Auckland that were mobile i was one of the 3 or 4 oldest there and it was just my every day bomb, so in the video i think i was about 4 cars behind the vintage car there shown before they switched to the horse and cart.
    thanks for the nostalgia

Anyone heard of the 'Harbor Bridge Ghost?' They say a man drowned there and a few people saw a dark shadowy shape move around somewhere there as they drove by. I'd like to go back there.

It wasn't the AVERAGE Australian and New Zealander who did this, but a lot of presenters thought speaking "as upper-class London English as possible" (in Australia sometimes speaking "as upper-class Boston American as possible") was somehow more urbane.

someone in adelaide puts an R into the way they talk so chance is charnce, dance is darnce, france is frarhnce etc, we dont talk like that here.
I cant tell the difference in britian (maybe scotland but thats it) cause I am not from there so it all sort of sounds the same to be, I am sure it is the same for you the other way around

I am sorry but if you put 2 people standing next to each other, 1 is from adelaide, 1 from sydney, I could tell straight away where which one is from

  • @Mollarooza
    @Mollarooza 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Umm how would you know?
even in Sydney, you can go to different places with different accents in 1 city,
Compare someone from Penrith to Mossman to Punchbowl.

  • @Mollarooza

Well if you said an Australian accent
It could mean a North Queensland accent/ Adelaide accent
Its still an Australian accent, doesnt matter if they sound different

Was supposed to be 3 lanes each way but knocked back to 2 lanes each way by Sid Hollands particularly backward looking national party government of the day. Well, even 3 lanes each way wouldn't have been enough probably only a couple of years after 2 lanes each way weren't enough!

  • @Mollarooza

and you are 100% wrong when you say there is no such thing as a britsih accent because there is
It would be like saying there is no such thing as a cake,
There maybe chocolate cake, cheese cake, marble cake,
At the end of the day its still a cake, get the point???
