    Does it have the audio recording bug like all the new xiaomi phones released recently?

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mean the low audio level? Yes, a little. The audio bug on the front camera if you see the sample. I boost it 6dB in the edit and it is still really bad.

    • @ibex33
      @ibex33 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, even the redmi 3s,redmi note 4,redmi 4, redmi 4a all have it. The noise cancelling mic gets activated during video recording/audio recording and none of the actual ambient sound gets recorded. only the sound in close proximity to the device itself gets recorded properly.

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The same issue, canceling out the background noise as you can hear on the front camera sample it's really quite bad.

  • @robertkubrick3738
    @robertkubrick3738 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    A good review as always. I have a question. The audio with the FF camera is really low, is it possible to connect a USB mic? Mostly just curiosity but my Mi Max2 is fairly quiet also.

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I plugged in a 3.5mm mic, and video doesn't use it with the stock app. Seems only the like of Samsung and others do. For a USB mic if you use Open Camera it's possible.

    Phenominal work in what you call a first impressions. Your detail and prying into the small details are unparalled. Thank for diving into tech that is primarily meant for the likes of China, Thailand etc but can function in other countries if imported to avoid getting striped up by resellers/distrobutors or carriers. Great work. Thumbs up, Watching from London, UK.

      First we need to unlock it then flash it with Mi Flash. Lengthy process, but not too hard. Just waiting for the global ROM now.

      @InnerFire6213 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know if the process would be the same but going from global stable to global dev requires no unlocking or flashing. Only download the rom, put in internal and use the updater app in the phone.

    For its current price in the market, you can get a brand new Mi5s.

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Mi 5S would be a better choice. Much better phone overall, just lacking OIS or DIS in 4k. Otherwise, takes the best stills of any Xiaomi.

    • @RalphUrmel
      @RalphUrmel 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mi5s has quite an unstable finger print scanner in my experience and the bluetooth range is very limited (1-2meters). I wonder if this is fixed in this model and the 6. Other than that it's a perfect phone for the price.

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mi 6 the fingerprint reader is great, the Wifi is one of the best tested 2 x 2 antennas and BT I had no issues with it.

    • @TerabitTech
      @TerabitTech 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but the Mi5S is ugly (subjective thoughts) and his fingerprint sensor is terrible. I'd rather prefer Lenovo P2 at 180€, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 International (with Snapdragon 625, B20 and Google Services pre-installed) or Lenovo Moto Z Play at 220€. However there are also the Mi5S Plus at 230€, the Mi5 at 180€ and the Honor 8 at 250€

    You sound honest in your videos. I hope you keep this up. I understand this is not a charity and you stand to gain money from it, but please oh please don't ever become a corporate puppet just because you turn around a corner and face a very nice offer. This is all assuming that there isn't a hidden agenda in your videos/channel.

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No money gained for this video. The current link is not an affiliate one and youtube might give me about $10 if it reaches 100k videos. later I might add one to make a few dollars back. I plan to keep it real and not be like all the others that sell out and only talk about positive points only. Basically, sell and more an advertisement than a review. I'm very against those PPP reviews TH-cam is full of. PPP stands for Pretty, Positive and Paid!

    The focus hunting even in daylight is a big let down for me. Too bad Xiaomi downsized the battery.

    • @SyukriLajin
      @SyukriLajin 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's still there. though it's not as bad on the mi 5. i think the sony's sensor and snapdragon 820 helps make it perform better than those with omnivision and SoC with slower image processor.

      Great try! Its the usual in these brands: Xiaomi is looking for their own identity: maybe massive production is the way for them. We only hope importation makes more "competent" the big brands offer ... personally i am going for a more PPR: AGM android 7 just because i like ruggeds :)

  • @AbrahamLTobing

    expecting this to be a better version of redmi note 4, but the audio issue and video recording are unacceptable, it should be considered as a defect unit. Better than redmi note 4, have 4k recording, dual rear cam should give better photo quality, better sound quality i believe (redmi note 4's quite bad), quite elegant design (look like iphone), type-c. Weaker, battery obviously, recording issue (i dont think it's something normal for a normal handset). Expecting comparison video among snapdragon 625 phones.

    If battery life and camera quality are important, which would you take between the Mi5, Mi 5x, and Mi 5s plus in the 220 to 300 dollar segment? Any other phone suggestions?

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mi 5S has the best camera for stills, not for video (No OIS) battery is still okay. I would go for that if you must have the best camera for stills. Mi 5 for it's OIS, but it's still not the greatest video quality, some focus issues too (focus breathing like this Mi 5X).

    Great review yet again.
    Didn't expect just an underoptimized phone from Xiaomi, but the specs were kind of a dead giveaway.
    5th phone featuring SD625, yet it's the worst one.

      @Techtablets  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well hopefully it's the last SD625 and they finally use up all their SD625 stock and move onto the SD630 and SD660.

    • @TerabitTech

      The Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Pro 2 may be better products. The Note 5 is said to have Snapdragon 630, a FHD IPS screen and a big battery (I expect something between 3500mAh and 4100mAh) at the typical low price point, while the Redmi Pro 2 is said to have Snapdragon 660, a 6GB RAM variant and probably OLED screen that, combined with a probably big battery, will still guarantee respectable battery life. And probably the Redmi Pro 2 will still have double camera. So I'll say that the Redmi Pro 2 may be what the Mi5X should have been from the beginning. What do you think?

    • @TerabitTech
      @TerabitTech 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's just a Redmi Note 4 with a cheap dual-camera setup, a slimmer battery and a way higher price. This is why it's so disappointing

      I don't know what you want to see it in the review, it lists it does have manual exposure support yet it does in the app. So it's not accurate in what it reports. The level_3 support, none, just legacy. Is that what you're after?

    • @RomanMedvid
      @RomanMedvid 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TechTablets.com yep, exactly. Thanks for that. The support level show if advanced apps, like RAW-processing ones, can work on the phone.

    Good review. I just can't get excited over the 5.5 format. I go for more pocket friendly for dress slacks or bigger for more capability, battery life, speakers more hardware/tablet replacement. Really for in pocket, I'd like to see the 4.7 screen make a comeback and not the all sharp edge sony brick.

  • @HughesyTech
    @HughesyTech 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Omnivison rear cameras are much the same on dash cameras. Ok-ish at day and punch a fair bit above their weight at night, but oversharpening and processing during the day is horrid.
    Obviously they went with these rather than Samsung or Sony because OV sensors are cheaper.
    Disappointed too at 4K video recording bitrate but could be bottleneck cos of eMMC or ISP, but ideally would be around the 60MB mark instead of 42 a second.
    Of note it is interesting to see that old Sony IMX sensors like IMX377 in LG Nexus 5x / Huawei 6p are making their way to action cameras now like the Yi 4K+

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yi 4K+ looks great, I want one of them! I which they have at least the main camera IMX398, I guess it's too pricey and they want us to buy the MI 6. The focus issues suck, however. Have to use tap to focus in video. And the front camera audio is messed up big time. A patch should address that easy.

    • @HughesyTech
      @HughesyTech 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TechTablets.com agreed on all counts. Shame really and like you point out in the video what's the point of this device. Those who care about video and photo will notice the difference right away.

  • @gadmantandian6942
    @gadmantandian6942 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't get how people hate nowadays xiaomi, my friend use their brand from note 3 pro to now, mi6.
    Very good money value
    Camera, well they did not buy the mere note 4 (with mediatek), so note 3 pro, mi 5 and mi 6 camera is pretty good considering the price.
    good battery life
    good build
    good screen score
    I mean if you compared it to the other brand flagship (galaxy S6, S7 and S8, or LGg5 , g6, and also iphone) offcourse it would lose, they ask for twice the fucking money on their flagship and you wish for better quality? Stop F! complaining.

  • @shad8x936
    @shad8x936 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    What really disappoints me in this mobile is the lack of OIS (and the outdated Snapdragon 625 instead of 630). How is it supposed to shoot "flagship quality" photos without it. EIS wont justify it, coz it will never be as good. I guess Xiaomi will always be known for poor camera performance in their phones, they just cant do that one thing right, and thats always a deal breaker for me when choosing between them and other companies like LeEco.

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The never seem to get it right with the cameras or video. The closest is eh Mi 5S, takes very good stills. But the bad video, no OIS. I would rather they ditch the gimmicky dual cameras and give us a single bigger sensor with OIS.

    • @shad8x936
      @shad8x936 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly, same here, this trend with dual cameras is so pointless, they have no real advantages over good single sensor while taking photos. They just add couple features that most people test once and never use again, while adding additional costs, and that money could been spended on OIS and good quality sensor. Even more ridiculous are dual cameras on budget phones in range of 100-200$ with sensors like 8+3mpx..

    • @hermanstokbrood
      @hermanstokbrood 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shad8x, I don't think you should buy Xiaomi if the camera has a high priority. Most people find it sufficient though.
      The focus hunting is a deal breaker for me. I don't know if this can be fixed just by software.
      The sd625 is still a great SoC and not that old. It uses 14nm as the sd630. The main difference is a 10% higher clock and a bit upgraded GPU.

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, Xiaomi isn't known for good cameras, bad camera optimization more like it. They focus hunting is such an issue, it's nothing new been on Xiaomi mobiles since well, day one or the first ones I reviewed like the Mi Note and Note 2.
