    You managed to make a really nice job of that - in spite of the very awkward location!
    A pity that stopcocks still seem fitted commonly, with lever valves being superior, as you point out.
    I still use an old reel of lead based multi core solder when I do occasional electronic repair (hobby) but that’s because it flows better and is less prone to dry joints - apparently lead solder is still approved for military and healthcare electronics, where reliability is critical. Wouldn’t want in in potable water, of course!
    Thanks for another great video.

      Thanks for the support as always Keith, you are right about lead solder flowing better, I know a few guys who use it on heating as it is cheaper, I personally don't carry it for the risk of accidentally using the wrong one

    As a retired plumber I do enjoy these videos.
    The old fashioned traditional stop tap was also (with a loose jumper) an excellent backflow prevention device, however, I'm not sure when they became a non requirement in the water regulations and lever valves became accepted to use as stop taps?
    There's nothing in the modern water regulations nowadays that says you can't use them though.

    • @PlumbLikeTom
      @PlumbLikeTom  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the support mate, for a guess the old water by laws might have specified stop taps rather than lever valves, the water regs came into force in 1999. I tend to use levers as they are more convenient for customers to switch off, some people say they can send a shockwave back down the pipe but it's not really that different to modern 1/4 turn taps. I do get inspections from my water authority and they are fine with having lever valves fitted over stop taps

    • @CRABLEGG
      @CRABLEGG ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With manufacturers specified double check-valves, single check-valves I guess the regulations people must have thought that the old design of stop tap was no longer needed in the world of modern plumbing.
      I do agree lever valves are much easier.

    I appreiciate these videos, it shows the hardships and realities of the trades, not just plumbing. How come the pipe gets wrapped in tape?

    • @PlumbLikeTom
      @PlumbLikeTom  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the support mate, I just wrap the pipe to help protect where it's in the wall, it just stops the pipe from coming into contact with any cement or brick which could potentially cause a problem

  • @edthelasttribe9580
    @edthelasttribe9580 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good job , have you run out of proper pipe sleeve, Celafelt Felt Pipe Insulation , Davant Felt Pipe Insulation Wrap Roll , Hair Felt Tubular Pipe Sleeve Lagging . You name it 😂 I present to you , I might miss few . Nice job tho , I seen it worse thumbs up 👍

      The ones I use are early hilmor, I haven't been able to find another set anywhere even having searched the Internet, monument do make benders like these, I believe they call them 2 piece benders, according to monument they were the only company to ever produce this type of bender but hilmor must have made a few

    Why do they make drain offs in 2 pieces?

    • @deano6017
      @deano6017 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i think its because there are rubbers inside it and if you solder the drain off it damages/melts the rubbers making it leak or when someone goes to open it in the future it wont work. Hope that answers your question.

    • @PlumbLikeTom
      @PlumbLikeTom  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds right, I know one manufacture did re-design the drain off with a nylon style washer inside to eliminate them getting stuck, I never tried them but a few plumbers I know had problems with those leaking, I'm sure there must be a better solution as they can be a pain
