ya same here. I do like a good log but ya I am right there with you. If I cant find the cache, I like to skim the logs and when there is a long novel, it could have all the clues in the world and I pass right over it hehehe
She's back! You had me cracking up with the "voice over". Next time a newbie asks me for any advice because they're just starting out, I'm going to direct them to this video.
A fellow geocacher mentioned once what if a handicapped person or a person with a disability or a child hid a lamp post cache because that's all they can hide. Gave me a different perspective on that.
Wow, that was a great point! I’m very new to geocaching but when I first started, I even left a few of those ‘TFTC!’s because it seemed so popular and hip to use the secret geocacher terms 😂 I had to google two of them just today to learn what they meant! I’ll definitely keep this in mind because you’re right. People did spend the time, money, and energy into placing these hides and agreeing to maintain them. Props to you guys!!!
The people in my area seem to be really good about this. I check logs before I go out caching usually, just in case there are DNFs or the log needs maintenance, I like to know before I go. And it seems like most logs are really good, lots of people are descriptive and really nice. On my first hide, a simple LPC, a cacher wrote a little story about his son running in the beautiful grass and figuring out which of two lamp posts the cache would be hidden in, which felt really good as a CO to hear. So I always try to put some thought into my logs, even for a simple LPC, because I know it's fun to see what people think. A related "dont be that geocacher," though: don't spell out exactly where the cache is. I've seen logs where people literally took a picture of the hiding spot, which takes away a lot of the fun of finding it. This doesn't seem very common, but it's really frustrating when it happens, especially on a clever hide. Posting a picture of the sprinkler hiding spot near a landmark isn't helpful, it spoils the search.
ya it is nice to get a good log, even on a LPC. I like to joke about LPC hides but they are appreciated and are still fun to find. That is a good don't be that geoacher. I believe i have that one on my list to do. I like looking at the pictures sometimes for hints but it is a bummer when it gives the whole thing away.
I agree. It is nice to know the condition of the cache. Even if its not mine and I see that in the previous logs I will bring stuff to help the CO maintain it if I can.
Well said. I usually try to be descriptive when I find a cache as in how I got to the cache site and how I felt about the container, swag etc. With an awesome cache like that, also don't be that geocacher that only finds the container BUT didn't do any of the work to get the ammo can open ya know? They see it and log it as Found. 👎 Thanks for sharing this fun video! I liked the silliness in the beginning to get the point across. 🤓
Agreed. I expect that to happen with this cache when I put it out. I figured some will just find the main box and log it as a find instead of actually playing the game. I had one before that was a puzzle box and people would log it as a find but not try the puzzle and sign the actual log book.
Being a CO of over 100 caches, my ego is not so delicate that I require glorious online logs. I admit that a mere "TFTC" is a bit weak, but I'm happy that people are getting out and finding my caches. After all, that's why we put them out.
true. I really like when HQ had the hiders appreciation week. It was nice to get more people to stop and think about the quality cache hiders around them. I have 0 hides atm, So i definitely appreciate those hiding good ones.
oh it breaks my heart to think that smart and gadget caches might just end up with a TFTC log :( Hopefully this will get a few more people to add a little more to that log. Thank you for hiding those types of caches!
Nice video. Thanks. Hahahaha! Gotcha.... I think? But seriously, I can echo your sentiments as a cache owner myself, and as someone who has put out a 3 or 4 gadget caches - TFTC logs for fun, creative, and cleaver geocaches are BOGUS!
LOL nice comment. Ya I agree it can be disappointing to get a lame log after you put all that work into making those caches. Thank you for putting out gadget caches though! I think gadget caches have taken the game to a whole new level.
I just came across your channel today. I'm enjoying the videos and the funny commentary. Lots of great advice. Thanks for making these videos. Josh, Wisconsin
Love these videos! Hahaha I’m definitely guilty of being the “found it thanks” gal once or twice. Now I’m just going to hear your voice over every time I’m logging in a cache . 🤣🤣🤣
HEY JAMIE GLAD TO SEE YOU BACK. RIGHT ON THE MONEY. CACHERS THAT PUT TIME I TO BUILDING SOMETHING SHOULD RECEIVE SOME PRAISE. DON't forget a Favorite Point for the special caches. As for LPCs.... they are NOT all created equal.I gave found some that were creative, funny and challanging. They don't all have to be pill bottles or key holders!!
ya I joke about the LPC but they definitely serve a purpose. I should have worded it better in my video. I don't want to discourage anyone from hiding them. I have appreciated quite a few LPC hides myself.
I think i would almost expect it on a park n grab. quick cache, quick log lol The park n grabs are nice though. They do come in handy when I need to get my geocaching fix :)
Many times other cachers’ logs have helped me figure it out. Loving the voice over 😂😂😂 but not all long logs are fun either. I really dislike logs which are long but empty content wise, these signatures with loads of :((((( signs forming a picture...btw, living in Europe, I often log in English instead of the native language (Dutch/Norwegian) so non-native cachers can read the log too when looking for clues.
Haha! Well done! I typically leave a decent log on LPCs nowadays. I don't like "overlogging" either. You know, those long ones where the cacher gives their stats and stuff, nothing that actually has to do with them finding your cache?
As a cache owner, I hate when people leave “TFTC” or “Thanks”. Leave me a description of how the cache is doing, did you appreciate the thought or effort that went into it? I don’t need a novel lol
I sometimes just log a little note if it’s a series with more than 3 and then leave a big one at the first or the last. 👏 I sometimes also forget to log online because I want to write a good log when I get home 🤦🏽♀️
This! Although some LPCs also deserve more than a TFTC, too! They may have cool containers or a really nice cache page that took more than the minimal effort to put out! There’s always a story of why you’re out caching or how you go there! TFTVideo!
Yeah im that geocacher, but like you said most of my caches are the lamp posts. I don’t find stuff The Geocaching Vlogger finds. If i do find one of those i will make a good digital log.
As a CO of 110 hides, I have no issue in people leaving brief found its. What I find annoying is some of the pedantic complains about silly things I’ve seen... I don’t control the weather and nor did I wish too hear a long winded story of negativity. I do enjoy people leaving stories of funny adventurous mishaps and them having a giggle about them.
Better yet...write a short DRAFT in the field, then go home, sit at your computer and compose a real log using a keyboard. Maybe that's old school, but sometimes the old way is the better way. TFTV. :)
THE most neglected portion of this game... Tell the tale of your adventure, leave yourself a clue for when someone asks you about hide several years later.

Good job. A really good cache deserves some amount of praise.

A fellow geocacher mentioned once what if a handicapped person or a person with a disability or a child hid a lamp post cache because that's all they can hide. Gave me a different perspective on that.
Lamp post caches are great. They definitely serve a purpose. I like to joke about them but in all honesty, I hope people continue to hide them.
Wow, that was a great point! I’m very new to geocaching but when I first started, I even left a few of those ‘TFTC!’s because it seemed so popular and hip to use the secret geocacher terms 😂 I had to google two of them just today to learn what they meant! I agree. It is nice to know the condition of the cache. Even if its not mine and I see that in the previous logs I will bring stuff to help the CO maintain it if I can.
