Thank you so much for this video sir. My radiators weren’t getting hot no matter how much I turned the thermostat up, I even bled them but still no joy. Now my radiators are working like a well oiled machine. Thank you so much, my family thanks you. God Bless.
Thank you so much for this. I have a condo, and as the winter prep started, we found we had no heat. An electrician/plumber came in and fixed a problem with the thermostat, but there was minimal heat from the rad. I was then informed that I needed to change my zone valve and to bleed the system as I had an airlock. I contacted the folks who did the work and was looking at almost 1 grand of "work" to be shouldered by myself as it's indoor work, so I decided to do some research. Now, all I've done is flip the switch from Auto to Manual as Dereton30 indicated in the video, and taraaaaa! I've got sweet heat flowing at full blast. Nice little gift for the first snowstorm of 2023. THANK YOU!!!

Hi thanks for the wideo, When valve 3 port is set to central heating it is all the time a hot motor and there is a soft noise coming from it, this is good? How do I change to heating water everything is ok
Our heating system stopped working and we got an engineer out. He quoted us for a new thermostat and receiver, and a new motorised valve head. Quote was for £660. I tried switching the valve heads to manual and the heating came on. I then tested whether the thermostat worked properly and it does, heating comes on when I turn it up, and goes off when I turn it down to room temp. I suspect this means we only need the valve heads sorting, not the thermostat and receiver? Thanks
Cheers. I couldn't figure out why my heating was coming on a couple of times a day, but wouldn't work when I tried to turn it on manually. From this video, I figured out that the three way valve was seized open and it only worked when both were turned on.... I now have heating until I get it fixed....
I have heating but no Hot water (hot water works when i turn on the electric immersion heater but when that is off the gas is not heating the hot water) Pushing the valve to manual seems to have solved the issue.. but is there an issue leaving it permanently on manual?
Is mine faulty? If I move to manual, 1. It doesn't spring back, and 2. It hasn't got the tension to remain locked into manual. This is with power to it, and thermostat signalling to have heating turned on.. 😢
Hello, my new motor valve opens manually before connecting to the wires but once connected it wont open manually not auto. I thought the old motor valve was the culprit but with new new motor valve it does the same thing. local plumbers cant figure what the issue it. What could be the issue here? Another motor valve open ok manually but not opening on auto. Could this be the wire/electric cord issues?
Hi - don’t mind account (using my daughters) do I need to drain the system if I’m changing the motor and the 2 port piece also? If so, how? I’m ordering full piece with 2 port piece from your store. By the way, I have a Siemens DVA2/5 s same thing? Thanks Eoin
You will have to drain down if you are renewing the entire thing. If it was just the motor on top then you do not need to drain anything. The Siemens is the same type. To drain out look for a drain valve on the lower floors.
You’ve just helped us get warm again!! THANKS! Is there any chance that if I flick it back to auto it might work again...for a while? Wondering if it’s broken valve or just a bit cloggy?
Hi there. I've got hot water and hot radiators upstairs. All cold downstairs accept the downstairs toilet which is almost directly below the tank and this valve. On this valve, the lever was in the center. I've moved it to auto and manual but it's very loose, no resistance or noise moving the lever. It's hot the unit, so possibly burnt out? Only confusing part is have hot water and hot rads upstairs. All but one cold downstairs. Is it this valve?
What does it means if the lever have no spring when switching over to manual? And does not lock open? It didn't work for me. I have the exact same one, Honeywell. Only one radiator is working in my upstairs bathroom. The rest of the house is completely cold and all the pipes too.
Hello, I've got two of these, I believe it is the two valve ones. Do I set both of these to manual? Or do I need only a certain one set to it. Thank you!
We have no hot water but the central heating is working. when I try to push the lever, it comes back to it's original position. Is it how it is supposed to be? Can I put this lever to manual to gain access to hot water and then call out an engineer to check the motor etc? What is your recommendation? Thank you for your time to answer our comment.
Great video!! Similar problem.I have a sunvic 2701 motorised 3port valve when I turn on the rads on my electric heating panel nothing happens but when I turn on hot water both rads and hot water comes on together working off the thermostat in the hot water cylinder. Is the an valve issue
I finally received my purchase from eBay. I replaced the 3port sunvic motorised valve. Now on my eph r27 control is still turning on both together hot water and rads together. I have joined live and #3 together on the back of the control panel and it lights up the boiler turning on both rads + hot water when I joined Live and #4 together nothing happens any suggestions. (Could this be a wiring issue?)
Thanks for the excellent explanation of the motorised valve. My CENTER valve is making a continuous tapping noise. I moved the lever to manual. It made no sound when I moved it and had no resistance. The lever is down fully but will not clip into place. My central heating is set on at the controller and is working. My hot water is off at the controller but the water is hot. So i assume the valve is open. But the motor or something is tapping away. Any ideas?
Wnen radiators were hot and house warm, I tried switching lever back to Auto and switched Hot Water on again at the controller. The tapping stopped immediately. Then, after a few minutes it started again. So, switched HW off and moved lever back to manual. Still tapping away!
Thank you so much for this. My three way valve was buzzing after the timer switched everything off and so I replaced the valve using your instructions to the T. I switched the old one to Manual before removing and put the new one to Manual before installing and then returning it to Auto. I now have a problem with the heating coming on with the hot water even though the heating is set to “Off”. I have checked the wiring and everything is in the right place. Any ideas, please?
Thanks for the video, what does this motor do? I'm trying to increase the water pressure to my hot taps and noticed the switch moves freely and when pushed to manual won't slowly move back to auto. I can move it to where I like and it stays there. Is this normal?
You will not increase any pressure to the hot taps with this motor. It is purely to direct water flow to either the hot water tank or the heating or both. The motor valve is quite normal.
Oh my god you rare such lifesaver thank you. My underfloor heating stopped working wasn't sure what happened to it. One push of lever job done. As easy as you described I'll still get it wrong. Can I keep it manual?
@@dereton33 - Ok, cheers. Just got my hands on a new 3 way valve that's the same as mine and it only turned an 8th of a turn. The same as mine, which I thought was nowhere near enough. But it seems that it is.
Hi I’ve got an old 1979 heating system Stelrad boiler. There doesn’t appear to be a motorised value fitted. And no room thermostat. Hello sir I was washing my sons hands earlier and the water was hot but then about an hour later went to go shower and it was nothing but cold water now I have a valve like this in my furnace but it’s say auto on the left and open on the right and it’s a Combi should I try what you showed in this video or call someone
Hi there! I have a new issue where when any hot water tap is on, it activates the central heating as well. So when I used the hot tap the two rads closed to the boiler get very hot. It wasn't doing that before - my CH had been off for months due to needing new rads. Why is the hot water tap now inexplicably linked to firing up the CH? Thanks for your help!
Hi I have both valves in manual and still the boiler is still not heating the radiators. The boiler is fine. I'm getting hot water through taps and shower. What can be the issue? Thanks
@@dereton33 Thanks for the reply. I have 2 zone valves (downstairs & upstairs) which are located in the bathroom behind the bath panel. I've tried them both auto and manual. They are both hot water.
I have a hot water issue. Central heating works fine. But hot water on its own won't come on (I.e. Boiler won't fire up and pump start), however does seem to heat up the water when the central heating is also on (as the central heating does fire up the boiler and pump) I have two 2-way valves. The one for the central heating has no resistance on the lever, doesn't make the whirring noise as you move it to manually open. I'm guessing central heating is stuck on open. So when only hot water is on the system is getting confirmation that central heating is shut and hot water is open to allow pump and boiler to start. Does this sound correct? And replacing the central heating 2 way valve should fix it? Any advice appreciated
Hi why is it when I leave mine on automatic then only downstairs radiator comes in but when I put it on manual both upstairs and downstairs radiator comes in perfect
Thanks for the video. I'm about to change the head on my 2 zone valve. Should I put the lever in manual (open) position before removing, or does it not matter as long as the new one goes on in the same position?
Hi Derick, Great informative video as always and wondered if it's normal for my Danfloss casing to always stay warm even when the boiler is not on. Everything seems to be working ok and the motor is only about 18 months old with little useage
Can you leave the valve on all the time. Erie AG13A02A Pop Top Actuator 2 position normally closed never does it job on heating. Always stayed closed even when thermostat demand hiked up to highest. House is still cold. Costing me a fortune as contractor keep using the same valve. WHY?! Can I just override as you did. It doesn't say it has manual mode. But has that groove down I can lock it in. Pls advise. Thanks!
Yes you can lock it in manual, the heating temperature will then depend on the boiler stat. Contractor uses the same valve, as others would not be compatible with your wiring.
our issues is with heating is that in the morning the boiler starts/fires up as it set up in the programmer and it will run for a few minutes, one of the the pipe from the burner get worm, and it will stop and wont restart and the radiators stay cold like its something wont let the hot water do the circulation any advice?
@@dereton33 thanks, tried on manual heating started, not issues with heating, however now we don't have hot water. I reverted back to auto, but still no hot water only hating.
Hello, thanks for the video. Ours has failed in stages, first no hot water but heating worked, then heating packed in, but we still have heating upstairs controlled by a separate thermostat. I have 3 motorised valves in the airing cupboard, one labelled ‘Up - upstairs I’m guessing - ‘D’ - downstairs and then one on top of a pipe feeding into the tank. I have moved the lever on the D - downstairs one to manual open. But the boiler still isn’t firing when selecting +1 hour for heating or hot water or both together. In fact when both together the thermostat just flashes and clicks on and off. We have Honeywell thermo and a logic 15 boiler. Any ideas? Should I switch all 3 boxes to manual open? Thanks in advance
You can try that, by I expect the micro switches in the downstairs motorised valve may be gone. When in manual make sure the boiler stat is switched high.
Hi Great Video. I have some queries if you could please answer. I have both heating and hot water. What would happen if it is on auto mode? What setting should it be on if i want heating only or hot water only. Will it close the valve for hot water side if the hot water temperature has been achieved?
@@dereton33 Thanks. So in manual mode will it be heating + hot water both? Also if my temperature of hot water tank is achieved will it close that side automatically and run heating only?
Hi. Thanks for the video! Got the downstairs rads on now. I have 3 x two way valves (upstairs, water, downstairs). When the faulty downstairs valve is manually opened it continues to run the boiler rather than the boiler following the timer so I have to turn it off manually to stop it continually being on. One timer is for water and downstairs valves and other for upstairs valve. Would this be a valve motor issue or timer issue? The water valve still works. Thanks in advance
Hi, I just want to change the synchorous motor, I don't know how to remove the wire from the block though... Could you shed some light please? Thanks so much!
Hi. Thanks for your video! I have two of these controlling an annex. They have both gone at the same time! Been eight years. The lever on one has no resistance at all and the other one keeps opening and closes when calling for heat (springs back and forth between open and closed making a noise when doing so). Basically both installed at same time but have both failed in different ways. Please could you comment on the possible problem? I would like to just open both up and control with TVR's if possible.? Jammed the one that springs back and forth in place (as it kept slipping back to auto) but the other has no resistance at all i.e. just slides back and forth between auto and open with no resistance. Any help appreciated! Model is HONEYWELL V4073.
The one with no resistance is kuput. The other is noisy but still working. Why don`t you just get rid of them and replace your thermostatic rad valves in the annex with smart ones.

I then tested whether the thermostat worked properly and it does, heating comes on when I turn it up, and goes off when I turn it down to room temp. I suspect this means we only need the valve heads sorting, not the thermostat and receiver?
Thanks
It does.
@@dereton33 thank you
Cheers. I couldn't figure out why my heating was coming on a couple of times a day, but wouldn't work when I tried to turn it on manually. From this video, I figured out that the three way valve was seized open and it only worked when both were turned on.... I now have heating until I get it fixed....
Glad it helped
I have heating but no Hot water (hot water works when i turn on the electric immersion heater but when that is off the gas is not heating the hot water)
Pushing the valve to manual seems to have solved the issue.. but is there an issue leaving it permanently on manual?
No just that you have to have hot water on with it.
only one radiator working near tank others are not but hot water is. I suspect it'd this part is it meant to be hot?
Not too hot no.
Is mine faulty? If I move to manual, 1. It doesn't spring back, and 2. It hasn't got the tension to remain locked into manual.
This is with power to it, and thermostat signalling to have heating turned on.. 😢
Yes faulty
great vid thanks that will save me a lot of money for an easy fix
Could you do one for the main circulation pump change as well please
Ok will do Richard.
What is function of white cable and where white cable will go to connect
Switching live. You will need to check with an electrician where the wire goes as all systems are different.
Super clear explanation! Turns out I've already subscribed to your channel
Awesome, thank you!
Wired up wrong
Hi - don’t mind account (using my daughters) do I need to drain the system if I’m changing the motor and the 2 port piece also? If so, how? I’m ordering full piece with 2 port piece from your store. By the way, I have a Siemens DVA2/5 s same thing?
Thanks
Eoin
You will have to drain down if you are renewing the entire thing. If it was just the motor on top then you do not need to drain anything. The Siemens is the same type. To drain out look for a drain valve on the lower floors.
You’ve just helped us get warm again!! THANKS! Is there any chance that if I flick it back to auto it might work again...for a while? Wondering if it’s broken valve or just a bit cloggy?
Probably not
Check the heating pump first, if that is ok, then yes renew the motorised valve.
@@dereton33 thanks for the response. Will check in that order.
Saved me from a big bill or a cold Christmas. Thanks
Glad I could help!
If this switch was jammed would it explain the knocking sound when I turn on the heating? There is no heating but I have hot water. Thanks
Yes more than likely, switch the valve over to manual for now, then you will get heating.
@@dereton33 Thank you so much
Checked the valve and the lever moves freely, it's a 2 port BOSS valve. It hasn't worked moving it over.
What does it means if the lever have no spring when switching over to manual? And does not lock open?
It didn't work for me.
I have the exact same one, Honeywell.
Only one radiator is working in my upstairs bathroom. The rest of the house is completely cold and all the pipes too.
You need a new vlave.
@@dereton33 got the valve change with the local council but it still didn't work. Still ongoing problem, so I will update when it's finally fix.
Finally fixed now. Central back on full blast. Plumber had to change the boiler heat exchanger.
We have an issue where putting only the hot water on results in the house still heating up. Would this help resolve that? Thank you
Yes.
Great well presented explanation .
Thanks
Hello, I've got two of these, I believe it is the two valve ones. Do I set both of these to manual? Or do I need only a certain one set to it. Thank you!
You only need to set one, it is the one that does not feed into the hot water tank.
You must lock the lever up into the V slot in the aluminium cover, or it will return to auto.
Excellent explanation and visual strip down.
No problem Colin.
Great video!! Similar problem.I have a sunvic 2701 motorised 3port valve when I turn on the rads on my electric heating panel nothing happens but when I turn on hot water both rads and hot water comes on together working off the thermostat in the hot water cylinder. Is the an valve issue
Yes 3 way valve faulty.
@@dereton33 thanks I'll let you know how it goes
Motorised valve fault.
The body of the valve is gone, you will need to replace the whole valve not just the motor.
Thank you very much for that. Your videos are so good.
Yes you can.
When you've got the motor box off and have access to the valve sticking out of the body, how much should you be able to turn the valve ?
Half a turn.
@@dereton33 - Ok, cheers.
Just got my hands on a new 3 way valve that's the same as mine and it only turned an 8th of a turn. The same as mine, which I thought was nowhere near enough. But it seems that it is.
You are a God send my good man thanks for the video
No problem
Hi I’ve got an old 1979 heating system Stelrad boiler. There doesn’t appear to be a motorised value fitted. And no room thermostat. I’ve change to a hive thermostat and still have the problem of no heating unless the hot water is on as well. Do you have any suggestions please? This is another great video and I’ve watched other when doing diy plumbing. Thanks chris
You have an old system with no way to isolate hot water on with out heating on. You do not have a motorised valve fitted.
Hello sir I was washing my sons hands earlier and the water was hot but then about an hour later went to go shower and it was nothing but cold water now I have a valve like this in my furnace but it’s say auto on the left and open on the right and it’s a Combi should I try what you showed in this video or call someone
It is still worth a go.
The 3 way valve.
@@dereton33 Thank you!
Hi
I have both valves in manual and still the boiler is still not heating the radiators.
The boiler is fine. I'm getting hot water through taps and shower.
What can be the issue?
Thanks
Switch the hot water valve back to auto.leave the heating one on manual.
@@dereton33 Thanks for the reply. I have 2 zone valves (downstairs & upstairs) which are located in the bathroom behind the bath panel. I've tried them both auto and manual. They are both hot water.
Thanks for explaining for the layperson, great video!
Glad it was helpful!
excellent explanation, thanks. I am about to do the powerhead replacement
Good luck with it.
I have a hot water issue. Central heating works fine. But hot water on its own won't come on (I.e. Boiler won't fire up and pump start), however does seem to heat up the water when the central heating is also on (as the central heating does fire up the boiler and pump)
I have two 2-way valves.
Personally I would replace both valves.
Hi why is it when I leave mine on automatic then only downstairs radiator comes in but when I put it on manual both upstairs and downstairs radiator comes in perfect
Valve not fully opening.
Thanks for the video. I'm about to change the head on my 2 zone valve. Should I put the lever in manual (open) position before removing, or does it not matter as long as the new one goes on in the same position?
It does not matter as long as the new one goes on the same position.
Hi Derick,
Great informative video as always and wondered if it's normal for my Danfloss casing to always stay warm even when the boiler is not on. Everything seems to be working ok and the motor is only about 18 months old with little useage
Yes it is quite normal Michael.
If I remove the head will any water come from underneath also do I have to drain the system first thanks Jim
No the head is ok to remove unless it is a real old model.
@@dereton33 Thanks it is an old model should I do something different ?
Thank you for this video. Very helpful.
No problem.
our issues is with heating is that in the morning the boiler starts/fires up as it set up in the programmer and it will run for a few minutes, one of the the pipe from the burner get worm, and it will stop and wont restart and the radiators stay cold like its something wont let the hot water do the circulation
any advice?
3 way valve problem. Try it on manual.
@@dereton33 thanks, tried on manual heating started, not issues with heating, however now we don't have hot water. I reverted back to auto, but still no hot water only hating.
Will boiler not kick in if the motorised motor is gone?
No.
Thank you.
May I ask a stupid question ? If the brass part has seized then will switching to Man make any difference ?
No it wouldn`t john. Luckily that does not happen too often.
@@dereton33 Thanks. I had assumed that the valve seizing was the reason that the motor burns out !
Thanks so much. I did not realise how straitforward it is. They are trying to remove any self help and make us into helpless fools.
That`s about right Johnny,
~What to do if your heating is not turning off? replacing the unit is the solution?
Yes.
@@dereton33 Thank you.
Auto will allow you to have just hot water or heating, or both.
@@dereton33 Thanks. So in manual mode will it be heating + hot water both? Also if my temperature of hot water tank is achieved will it close that side automatically and run heating only?
Does that mean if you have the valve open, the heating and hot water are on constant? Or is that still controlled by the electrical panel?
They wiil be on constant
It will be the valve microswitch.
Top man and another great video.
Cheers Al.
Thanks 👍
Thanks for the video, it answered the question I had brilliantly 👍🏻
No problem 👍
Hi, I just want to change the synchorous motor, I don't know how to remove the wire from the block though... Could you shed some light please? Thanks so much!
Just prise the holding clip off.
@@dereton33 Thank you!
Thanks very much, just got our heat going on a cold night

Great video, my same exact valve is playing up, having to bleeding rads nearly every day, will valve cause this issue ? Any help anyone.
No not the valve.
Can I isolate the power supply to the head without turning the main power supply off to the whole house please ? Great video.
There should be a power switch that turns the boiler off which will turn the power to the valve off.
Have this same problem but Tried this fix and didn't work for me. Water heating works but no heating. Any idea what the problem could be ? Thanks 🙏🏽
The microswitch has gone in the valve, it will have to be replaced. The head motor that is.

Hi Check your wiring is ok.
Your videos are fantastic. I've had issues with my system - was limping before storm Eunice, then had pilot blown out in storm and getting it working properly since is a pig. Can't tell if boiler getting locked due to diverter or (new) diverter isn't receiving a signal from boiler. Ideas??
Best way to check is by using a test meter to see if you are getting power to the boiler.
