A day trip on the PANORAMA ROUTE | South Africa

- We recently did a day trip on the world famous Panorama Route in north-eastern South Africa. We visited four of my favourite places along the Panorama Route, namely: The Three Rondavels View Point, Bourke's Luck Potholes, Harrie's Pancakces and the Graskop Gorge Lift.

The Three Rondavels is arguably the most beautiful view point along the whole Panorama Route and close to the northern tip of the route, about an hour and a half's drive from Hoedspruit. From the view point you look down over the Blyde River Canyon - the third largest canyon in the world after the Grand Canyon and the Fish River Canyon.
From The Three Rondavels we drove south to Bourke's Luck Potholes, which are stunning geological formations in the Blyde River Canyon at the confluence of the Blyde- and Treur rivers. I hadn't been there since I was 12 years old and it was wonderful to experience it again.
Afterwards, we grabbed some lunch at Harrie's Pancakes in Graskop before heading to the Graskop Gorge Lift Company just south of town. Here we took the lift 51 meters into the gorge below, where a series of walkways and suspension bridges lead us 600m through the indigenous forest. It really is a world class facility, with plenty of excellent and informative information boards along the way. Even though I've never been there, it felt like I was walking in a jungle in Costa Rica!
If you visit South Africa's Kruger National Park or other parts of the Lowveld, you simply have to visit the Panorama Route!

Amazing video. SA bragging rights... The Blyde River Canyon is the largest "Green" canyon in the world.. The rest are just great examples of soil erosion. 🤣

Thank you for this video. I have been planning a trip to Kruger along with Panorama Route for a long time. Is it possible to drive from OR Tambo airport to Southern Kruger via Panorama Route taking in the sights you have shows in this video? Is it doable in a one day or is it better to stay overnight in a nearby place to make justice to Panorama route? Any place that you recommend?
Vikram - it’s not doable in one day from OR Tambo airport. Ideally, stay over in a town like Graskop and give yourself as much time as possible to explore - we didn’t even make it to all the stunning waterfalls in the area.
Hey there, I am heading to South Africa end of Sep, just curious about the drone shooting in your video. Is that legal to fly freely in the natural place in PANORAMA ROUTE and Garden Route? Do you need apply any permission in advance? I also find its not ok to fly in Kruger anymore, is that true?
It’s illegal to fly a drone in most of South Africa’s nature reserves and national parks, including Kruger, and that’s why I don’t own a drone. Whenever I need drone footage of an area, I’ll try and source stock footage. There may be some areas along the Panorama Route and Garden Route where you are allowed to fly drones, but I would check carefully if you are close to public roads & spaces, as well as air strips!
We've seen 1000 times more potholes on the road from Dullstroom to Hoedspruit....😂
