The challenge with watching this anime is whether you are able to withhold your tears every episode. This OVA is like a hint at Violet's journey until the end. You gotta watch it till the end, which is the movie. It's a beautiful ending and truly marked the end of Violet's journey.
I really like the detail of having literal dead letters. Post offices have tons of undeliverable mail, whatever the reason, that they call dead letters. The fact that these one are there because both sender and recipient are dead is brilliant.
At the very end right before the credits, the anime ends with some japanese text. And I used Papago to translate it. "The day will surely come when you will know love" 🙂
Oh, I didn't know this is were the OVA fit also, this is a really impactful episode for me (while there are like 2 or 3 other eps more emotional for me, this is definitely up there)
The OVA fits perfectly here "Acting as a training arc, Experience gain for Violet" as in this OVA Violet had to research a lot of other stuff and make a lot of letters
I don't even understand Japanese but just listening to the song and reading the subtitles, it's a beautiful piece with a layered and emotionally-charged lyrics.
I thought this episode would fit later on in the series since in this OVA episode Violet is already a famous Auto Memory Doll as stated by Ilma at 1:28. I think Violet's fame began at episode 6 or 7, even then I don't think she was that famous for Ilma to say "you're the one everyone's talking about" since Violet did not even have enough exposure as an Auto Memory Doll at episode 3-5.
No no that is correct placement, between episodes 4 and 5. Cause episode 5 was about royal love letters which would have to be referred to someone experienced. And if you go from episode 4 to 5 you would think “wait violet just started her work, how did she end up landing such a big gig?” This is how, she became famous after Irma letter. And in the episode she was mostly recommended by her instructor.
I remember you talking about you've watched a Movie before where the main character wants to be a mailman, that's actually a side story of Violet Evergarden that happened in the future of the anime
Violette Evergarden doesn't grasp the subtle but nonetheless crucial nuance between a love letter and a military report. To her... Love is War. (Wait... it is another nice anime's title!) Violette In A Nuttshell.

Violet being misappropriated as a ghost writer. She deserves extra pay!
Evan Call's score for this series never fails to give me chills...
6:31 Violet is a modern rap singer : "Lyrics are my weapons. Words are my ammunitions..."
Thnx for this comment. After watching that emotional episode again I needed a funny comment
This episode is probably one of the most hard hitting after the famous eps 10 and the umbrella episode.
At the very end right before the credits, the anime ends with some japanese text. And I used Papago to translate it.

Fun fact: TRUE (the artist who sings the show's OP) also sang both of the musical pieces in the OVA.
The entire show is great to watch and it's reduced me to tears a few times. With that said. I thought it was cute when Violet stood in the corner.
iirc this ova is dedicated to True ( the singer who made the opening and some other great osts)

I thought this ova took place after the last episode, it kinda makes sense it to take place between ep 4 and 5 but at the same time it kinda doesn't
I completely forgot about this episode.
Oh, yeah, the ova of this does take after episode 4.

Sometimes they need to cut off some things from the original material because the anime has a limit of episodes per season.
