      It usually takes a bunch of work to make them aggressive, but I grew up next door to a pair that was legitimately (trained to be) dangerous. It was always just a matter of time before they broke out of the fenced yard, mauled a passerby and ended up being put down. Love rotties, though, and even the ones who aren't too keen on most people seem to like me back.

My dad may or may not have stolen her from that tree on a night out with friends. 😅 affectionately named Tequila, she was the sweetest, most emotionally intelligent dog I've ever had the pleasure to love. • @Daniel-rd6st
      @Daniel-rd6st หลายเดือนก่อน +137

      @@ladyspartafitness Barking isnt neccesarrily a sign of aggression. Its literally a guarddogs job. I have meet plenty of guarddogs (growing up in the countryside) that barked at you to make it clear, that you are not allowed to enter the property, while wagging their tail, basically saying, "i have nothing against you, but if you go over the fence without my boss being here, we will have a problem". And thats exactly what they are supposed to do. Which is also why mail boxes, when there are free running dogs around, generally are not at the house, but at the gate (well at least in my corner of the world).

      I briefly had a pitbull who did the same. She pulled hard on the leash when people walked by and it looked like she wanted to tear their face off. But when they were past, she whined and cried for them to come back. She was amazing with people and dogs at the dog park, but did have a bad habit of jumping on people. She fell in love with one of the guys at the park who didn't mind her flopping all over him, though I felt awful about it 😅.

      @kpturn42 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ladyspartafitness my positive interactions with dogs do not in any way invalidate your negative experiences with untrained, aggressive, and reactive dogs. I know that I’m incredibly lucky to have routes with very well-trained dogs that are excited to see the mail person, and that my experience is not the norm. I always test a dog’s reactivity and willingness to interact positively before taking the personal risk to deliver. There are definitely a few houses on my routes where I do not interact with the dogs because they have shown obvious signs of real aggression towards myself or the truck, and others where interaction is not in the best interest of the dog because they are working livestock guardians.
      A lot of my knowledge of aggressive behaviors and telltale signs of potential risks for aggression have actually come from watching the more “dangerous” and “reactive” cases on this channel, and that knowledge has helped me immensely in keeping safe in my interactions with dogs while delivering. I’m not looking forward to the day I get bit, but I’m sure I will eventually.

      I would argue that if any breed deserves a negative reputation, it's chihuahuas. I've watched a lot of breeders and trainers on youtube and generally they all agree that the honestly meanest dogs are the smallest ones -- not because they were bred that way, but because most owners of little dogs treat them like pack leaders instead of giving them any amount of discipline. I've been bitten by dogs twice in my life, once by a German Shepherd and once by a Chihuahua, both because I was trying to pet them. The Chihuahua's owner didn't even acknowledge the bite or take responsibility for it.😐

    5:56p.m. I had a beautiful light brown rottie. No one could come into our yard. Then one morning we found her dead on the sidewalk. Some evil terrible person gave her poisoned meat. We were so devastated. She was so warm and loving especially with the children and she was very protective of them. We miss her so much.

      Applies to all breeds. And I would argue that the smallest breeds should actually be the ones that have the reps that rotties and pitties get. Way more people are bit by teeny chihuahuas with Napoleon complexes than by any large breed. But even with those, it's absolutely the lack of training by the owners. People tend to assume that the smaller the dog, the less training is needed, but that couldn't be further from the truth.

    I know a rottie-pittie who was likely bred to fight but is the biggest smoochiest snuggliest baby! He was literally rescued from the snow at 6 weeks. He had a missing muscle group on one leg and had a slight limp & appears to have been just thrown away while alive. He was likely rescued pretty fast, he was in good health and with exercise, his gait was fixed completely. He is a massive adult dog, but even when he believes there may be a threat, he does not choose violence. He’s very much the “let’s lock the scary thing in the bathroom/garage and let mommy handle it” kind of good boy. I am always cautious around dogs who are stronger than humans, that’s just common sense, but he is an absolute angel. And it’s beautiful that his missing muscle ended up saving him and giving him a wonderful loving family ❤

I would still have one if it wasn’t for my age and degenerative disc disease which forced me to downsize to Mini Schnauzers, Zach and Zoey. I love dogs. We had a rottweiler when I was a kid. My mom put a spike collar on her at first since she was unsure of her temperament, the kind that digs into her neck if the leash is pulled hard. We took her hiking and my mom was pulling hard as she was afraid and the dog was so big and strong, then the dog bit my mom's arm very very gently so as to communicate that the spikes were hurting her. Rhonda's physique and attitude make me think she was more of a postmortem or health-related surrender (that is, an owner who died or was physically unable to care for her anymore) than a "rescue".

      You have quite a wild imagination ! Vanessa had said Ronda was adopted a year ago, so I guess you can make up almost any reason why but we will never know.

      @@jeffhughes6167 I think what @tymora11 said makes sense… The dog is likely too well-bred (i.e. expensive) and well-behaved to have been in a bad and abusive situation, because most people who pay thousands of dollars for a dog don’t throw it away by neglecting them or abusing them. So that’s why maybe Rhonda became a rescue because her owner simply couldn’t take care of her anymore for financial or health reasons.

      @@jeffhughes6167 What difference does it make if she was adopted a year ago or five years ago? Her theory makes as much sense as any other. I don't think it was her "imagination". It was more of a deductive reasoning. Why were you triggered by it so much?

      That’s what I was thinking too. Although, a lot of breeders would prefer to have their dogs returned to them should they need to be surrendered. Anyway, she’s a real beauty ☺

      @@whiteprisms3123 Just wanna say that rescues don't always come with reactivity, even if they come from traumatic backgrounds. I do hope Rhonda wasn't an abused rescue.
