Neil being the most experienced D&D player ends up giving the TTRPG version of Astarion a wonderful edge of competence that really makes him an even more interesting character.
barbarian in and of itself is a word to describe a culture seen as primative and comes from the ancient Romans AND Greek LITTERLY looking down on everyone else's that wasn't them. ergo every culture that isn't your own is a barbarian. so technically a barbarian can be extremely intelligent it's just not valued by the inpower culture.
@madameguillotine3216 It's a joke that is based on the fact that Barbarians as a class in the roleplaying/tabletop game Dungeons and Dragons have significantly low Intelligence stats (unless ofc the player character puts points in it). How a player decides to play their Barbarian to subvert the low Intelligence stat in a way that doesn't make them into a fool is possible as high wisdom stats can compensate for that perception. High intelligence doesn't need to reflect lack of stupidity (as Gale, a wizard of high intelligence stat can attest). But it is a fun meme, it is fun to play a 'dumb' character so the archetype holds. Thanks for the information, mostly knew it was a roman thing but not necessarily greek.

I am not too well versed on this topic but I'd believe our current concept of "othering" could be similar. Aka the way certain people/peoples/individuals get singled out for specific traits which puts them outside of a perceived "normal" (ex, how certain accents are perceived as "low class").

Once I was playing a skeleton archer and we had to fight this lich and my party was struggling and I random said as a joke “uncle billl?” And the dm laughed so hard I got advantage until the fight was over
Their VAs are my favorite. They become the characters so effortlessly and Laezels does too but it’s just her vocal reflections. Their faces actually reflect the characters and it’s just so good I have so much respect for these talents

OMG, I had no idea that you can LITERALLY see their characters in them when they talk. No one had to put a: "Plays Will" or anything near them.
Most people probably assumed it because he's the only black man on stage, I imagine.
Yeah if they ever opted to do a Live Action of BG3, they've got a pretty easy time for actors as several of the VAs look exactly like them.
