    I specifically warch your videos because you were the first one I ever heard talk about an exit strategy and also proposed gold as a savings account rather than a "shoot the moon any months now" investment. You are actually the reason I started buying gold instead if just dismissing it as a fad.

    Thanks for sharing, I am in retirement and living off SS, IRA, and Fiat Savings from rental property sale first, holding what little gold I have for when I really have to sell but still hope to pass on a Buffalo to each of my two children. I hope I can make it work, I am turning 72 but still feel great. Your plan is right on point. Only collectible gold I have is the Gold .9999 Walking Liberty that I got well below market value, which I hope to sell to a collector, 70,000 made.

    Goal is 120 ounces - use as needed in part time retirement. I actually like to work and don't plan to fully retire. That gives me 10yrs with extra monthly income. Will save the collector pieces till the end or pass em on.

    I love the boating accident reference… especially since I am newer to the channel. (Don’t forget about us newbies!) Plan to use my gold for retirement and to pass down to niece. No kids so if I end up getting a reasonably large stash I’d maybe need to set up a fund or something. Guess I need to solidify my plans.

  • @TheQuickSilver101

    My metals have been my back up plan for years now. I have investments that I expect I'll be tapping into for my retirement but if I need them I'll sell my coins. We'll see what happens when we get closer to that time. I know plans change and no matter how carefully i plan things something will come along and upend it for sure but having the insurance that gold provides puts my mind more at ease. Thanks!

  • @bohemian5966

    My strategy has always been the same and is pretty similar to yours. My goal is a minimum of one-hundred and twenty ounces by the time I'm ready to retire. More would be better. My wife and I are roughly six years from retirement and are well along the way to that goal. If all things stay the way they are currently, we'll retire with a generous (railroad) pension that is guaranteed for both of us, plus other retirement plans/savings, plus cash. Our gold will be used as a "contingency" fund. Have a month where you want to take a long weekend at the lake? Cash in a coin. Unexpected car or home repair? Cash in a coin, etc. Even cashing in one ounce a month, one-hundred twenty ounces would last ten years. As with everything in life, plans can and do change with time. This is our base-plan at least for now.

    • @2is1gold
      @2is1gold  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely. I think it’s just smart to look at in terms of what it can do. It’s flexible by nature, so it can change. That makes it even more useful.

    • @tonydanzl
      @tonydanzl 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That RR pension alone is "Gold", lol.
      Friend of mine retired 3-4 years ago... $6-7k per month for him and his wife. That's more than a lot of people make working 40hrs a week.😉🤠✌

    • @rodgerjohnson3375
      @rodgerjohnson3375 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tonydanzl My best friend just retired with RR retirement. He gets 50% and his wife gets another 50% of his 50%. Total $75%. Confusing?

    • @edb3877
      @edb3877 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rodgerjohnson3375 No, not a bit. At one time, RR retirement was separate from SS benefits.
      One either had one or the other. Have not looked at this in 20+ years so it could be different
      now but it was sweet for those who got it back in the day. Maybe it still is.
      Our financial life is pretty decent these days. Wife retired after 30 years as a teacher, principal,
      and district level admin. She got in on the best pension plan that was available at that time and
      that has since been reduced twice. Also has SS benefits. I had a pension early on in my career
      but that got rolled into a very good 401k plan in 1981. The company matched our contributions
      up to 3% if we took the match in cash or 6% if we took the match in company stock. We only
      had to hold the stock for 9 months and we could sell it after that. They cash from that stayed
      in the 401k plan. The 401k plan money was rolled into an IRA when I retired in 2004 and I got
      a Substantially Equal Periodic Payment (SEPP) plan set up so I could tap that money for living
      expenses in retirement. I also have a small Roth IRA and get SS benefits. Additional after tax
      money was invested in a couple of core mutual funds that were rolled into their even lower cost
      ETF equivalent. Fact is, even after taking out $550k in retirement living expenses, my account
      is larger today than it was when I retired. This is not quite a perpetual motion money machine
      but it might be as close to that as one can manage.

    • @bohemian5966
      @bohemian5966 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@edb3877 You are correct. RR retirement benefits are separate from SS benefits for the railroad employee. I do not pay anything into Social Security. I only pay into RR retirement, My wife, however, continues to pay into SS. At retirement time, I will receive benefits equal to an average of my final five years of earnings based upon years of service and age. My wife will have the choice of EITHER taking SS retirement benefits OR fifty percent of what my monthly benefit would be. In most cases, RR retirement pays more but not always. Of course, these numbers vary greatly from person to person depending on numerous factors. I'm not exactly sure what Mr. Johnsons' friends circumstances were, but in my case, my benefits will be roughly $5k per month with my wife receiving $2.5k per month. She will almost certainly do better with RR retirement versus SS.

    Nice collection, I only started acquiring AU & AG since Covid started and have amassed a considerable amount and continue to acquire on a monthly basis. I just turned 50 yesterday so I have quite a bit of time before I can take any retirement. My plan is to live off my investments and only use precious metals as a supplement if I need it. If I had to sell any of it, the bullion grade stuff will go, the only ones I would never sell are the 2016 Centennial Gold coins to include the Walking Liberty, Standing Liberty, Merc Dime and first year 2006 Gold Buffalo Proof. If I never sell any it will all go to my grown Children & Grandchildren.

    I've been spending time buying recently - but I've prepared for that possibility by holding as much fractional and other forms such as jewelry/gold watches - so it's accessible to the most people - and not just dealers... One coin and/or one watch/one piece of jewelry at a time - probably in retirement, which is the whole reason I'm holding my PMs.
    getting my head ready to sell is the hard part - in selling silver recently at these inflated premiums - I've found just letting go to be the hardest part...using those funds to achieve something helps, but not totally.

    I retired in Panama. The gold market is thinly traded here. I found a private vault that buys and sells gold. They will buy back gold bullion at the spot price. I haven't tried it yet but I decided to trust that they would do this. Private vaults are all about trust and service to the client. It would be too risky to go out in public to meet someone to sell them gold. You need a professional environment that is safe for this. I don't want to sell my gold unless it is for a specific emergency so knowing that I have someone who will buy the gold in that type of situation is good. This vaulting company provides trustworthy and safe service to me that is invaluable for the retiree here in Panama. I never understood why everyone harps the same mantra, "Ya gotta have an exit strategy!"
    No you don't. I treat this stuff like insurance. If I need it, I have it. If I never need it, it sits there.... waiting in case I need it. I don't have an "exit strategy" for my truck insurance, home owners insurance, etc. or for my pantry of food, stored water, boxes of ammo, etc. , because it seems pretty obvious.
    "What's your exit strategy for these 55 gallon barrels of water?"
    Well... if I get thirsty, or need to bathe... I will use some of it.

      Ammo: Shoot it.
      My issue with the popular metals channels always harping on exit strategy is that it is made to sound like its complicated. Like you have to sit down and formulate some grand plan. It's money. The exit strategy is to spend it.
      Ultimately, the exit strategy for everything is death. You exit. Done. I just don't get why this is a thing. Use what you have for what it is intended, whether that is food, ammo, booze, gold, or whatever. If you don't use it, give it to someone. Or don't. In the end, we all leave here with nothing.

Sure it can be pretty simple but often see people expecting to roll up to a dealers and get top end ebay prices for their coins. Helps to have a bit of trading feedback and experience on other platforms too if you don't go down the dealer route.
