One person said that Alana stood her ground against until she was accepted, but I will give more credit to Joe for being strong enough to stay with her. Alana didn't have to do much, but be his wife. He's the one who had to kindly stand his ground against family. She didn't have to say anything, but just be kind and available. I've seen quite a few asian men with black girlfriends or wives and there is one thing I can say...they don't get rid of the women just because their parents disapprove of their relationships like American men (black and white) do. In all the cases I've seen, the Asian man will keep developing a relationship with the woman and his parents and hope that the relationships work out fine. The never turn against the woman if they are sure about the relationship and in almost all of those cases, the parents eventually warmed up to the woman and they went on to have good relationships. They didn't like her at first or that she has so many kids, even though they have known Alena for a longtime, her and joe was bff in high school. I can see & feel that they don't fully like her and are over whelmed with so many kids, I think they learned to accept Joes "black kids", because they actually look Korean. I have been watching this family for years grow & children multiply. What I never liked is the way his family only wants to see the children the couple had together. The other children aren’t allowed to visit who are also their siblings. His wife & the in-laws doesn’t really like each other, they tolerate each other because they never liked that she kept having more children, even though she couldn’t do it on her own. 🙄 They acted like his wife who has a doctorate wasn’t good enough for their son & was “burdening “ him with the ready made family (her children from a previous marriage) and eventually more children they had together . I couldn’t bare to watch their videos due to the ignorance and hypocrisy. All the children are well educated & very fluent with speaking Korean & English. ❤ I understand that we all have elders in the family that are stuck in their ways & traditions, but truly wish that they eventually learned to be more respectful towards his wife & embraced the other children who are not biologically his. I know it was probably very hurtful for the older children and perhaps never communicated, but rejection is real. They are great parents and love all the children equally, you never see Joe treating the children differently and I respect that about him & his wife. God bless. 🙏🏾❤️
Doctorate means nothing in Asian culture but background does. Even with the same race Asians wouldnt be comfortable with a daughter in law that has had kids with other men. Two in this case. Even marrying divorcee ( unless both are divorced) will bring objections. Values differ so maybe in the African culture people see things differently. To Asians, especially the eldest or only son and whom he marries is very significant.
Dont the other kids have their own grandparents with their fathers? Between all the kids there are 3 sets of grandparents. Are you saying all these grandparents should accept all the kids as their kids when not all are biologically theirs? That doesnt make sense. Joe made the decision to take on 2 other men’s kids as his step kids. But it isnt reasonable to expect his parents to see them as their grand children. His decision was imposed upon them and those kids arent theirs biologically. They arent even part Korean.Moreover they have their own other biological family.

I can see & feel that they don't fully like her and are over whelmed with so many kids, I think they learned to accept Joes "black kids", because they actually look Korean.

Spend as much time as you can with great grandmother Joe, and take the children with you. She is visibly aging. She doesn't look so strong any longer. When they are gone, it is a deep loss. It is a blessing if we have no regrets when they are gone. And remember you are teaching the next generation how to treat you when you are old. It was lovely to see them together. Especially the older generation find it embarassing and will be seen as having raised their kids poorly. She must have gone through a lot explaining to friends why her son has such a blended family. I have been watching this family for years grow & children multiply. What I never liked is the way his family only wants to see the children the couple had together. The other children aren’t allowed to visit who are also their siblings. His wife & the in-laws doesn’t really like each other, they tolerate each other because they never liked that she kept having more children, even though she couldn’t do it on her own. 🙄 They acted like his wife who has a doctorate wasn’t good enough for their son & was “burdening “ him with the ready made family (her children from a previous marriage) and eventually more children they had together . I couldn’t bare to watch their videos due to the ignorance and hypocrisy. All the children are well educated & very fluent with speaking Korean & English. ❤ I understand that we all have elders in the family that are stuck in their ways & traditions, but truly wish that they eventually learned to be more respectful towards his wife & embraced the other children who are not biologically his. I know it was probably very hurtful for the older children and perhaps never communicated, but rejection is real. They are great parents and love all the children equally, you never see Joe treating the children differently and I respect that about him & his wife. God bless. 🙏🏾❤️
Doctorate means nothing in Asian culture but background does. Even with the same race Asians wouldnt be comfortable with a daughter in law that has had kids with other men. Two in this case. Even marrying divorcee ( unless both are divorced) will bring objections.
Values differ so maybe in the African culture people see things differently. To Asians, especially the eldest or only son and whom he marries is very significant.

Dont the other kids have their own grandparents with their fathers? Between all the kids there are 3 sets of grandparents. Are you saying all these grandparents should accept all the kids as their kids when not all are biologically theirs? That doesnt make sense. Joe made the decision to take on 2 other men’s kids as his step kids. But it isnt reasonable to expect his parents to see them as their grand children. His decision was imposed upon them and those kids arent theirs biologically. They arent even part Korean.Moreover they have their own other biological family.
