    How do you get around JB? By car? Is it safe to drive around?

    • @travelsandroadtrips
      @travelsandroadtrips  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! Yes we get around JB by car. Concerning safety, fact is, while it’s not an everyday or even a common occurrence to the best of our knowledge, there have been isolated cases of car thefts, car break-ins and mugging in JB which were reported in the media in the past 12 months. Hence, we do exercise the usual due diligence such as not parking in deserted areas, not leaving valuables or handbags, laptop bags, etc visible in the car. And we always kept the car doors locked and windows up while driving and when the car is parked, even while we are tanking up at petrol stations.
      While driving on the roads itself, we find that the biggest hazards would be avoiding motorbikes that suddenly cut into our lane when they are in a hurry or when they are speeding. Also do look out for potholes and humps where paint markings have worn off at roads when you are driving through older sections of the town to minimise sudden bumps under your car. In addition, do keep to the speed limit and slow down when driving on the smaller roads which tend to be narrow and have lots of bends and sometimes bumps and potholes as well. This applies especially after night falls. Not every road in JB has street lamps. Some roads can be pitch dark so when you are driving at night, do drive with lots of care.
      Other than the above and heavy traffic in central areas at certain peak hours such as Austin Heights, Taman Sentosa etc, we find driving in JB and Malaysia on the whole to be very enjoyable and most of the Malaysian drivers whom we have encountered in JB are polite and patient.
      Oh a couple more things, before you drive to Malaysia, do make sure that your car insurance provides you with sufficient coverage for driving in Malaysia. This one is not related
      to safety but maybe useful in case you decide to drive in JB: For public parking in JB, it’s divided into 2 zones: MBJB and MBIP. When you park at the public carpark, the signage will indicate whether is it a MBJB or MBIP parking lot. MBJB covers areas like Taman Sentosa, Taman Pelangi, Austin, etc while MBIP covers areas like Sutera, Gelang Patah, Bukit Indah etc. You can download the app to pay for parking at both MBIP and MBJB areas via app once you turn on your phone’s location service. We were told that this app can be used for parking as far as Malacca and KL. For both areas, never park on lots with yellow markings as those are for season parking.
      Hope the above helps. Do let us know if you have any questions. Have a blessed day! 😊

      Hi! We just found out from a local that the MBJB app can pay for parking at both MBIP and MBJB areas via once you turn on your phone’s location service. We were told that this app can be used for parking as far as Malacca and KL. For your update. We have also edited our earlier reply accordingly. Cheers!😊
