Here are my recommendations: Hua Mui Kopitiam (Jb city), Waterworks Laksa (Nong Chik), Ah Koong Restaurant (Taman Sentosa), Botak Asam Pedas (Jalan Lepas, Tanjung Puteri), Bak Kut Teh Hin Hock (Tampoi), and Banafee Village (Jalan Dato Abdullah Tahir). Also, you can try hitting the weekly pasar malams - Mondays outside KSL and Tuesdays at Taman Johor Jaya. Hope this helps!

    I am from Jb. Personally, I find their kangkong flavourful, striking good balance between the spiciness, sweetness and savory. Can you guy try avoid commenting the dishes being cheap later the vendor increase the price. This will make locals life hard 😢 What seems cheap to Singaporean is not the case for the locals😢

    One thing i can say for sure, never follow or trust online recommendations. people love to overhype places unnecessarily becoz those are common places that singaporeans find it easy to visit.
    my friends and i drove around jb to explore small hidden restaurants. and we found some amazing places that could put sg's hawker center to shame.

  • @KelvinCrLin
    @KelvinCrLin ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Those who really know how to eat curry fish head would not eat at kam long. the curry is super watery.Yes it is value for money in Malaysia, but not really top tier. Despite i went jb very often , i never went to eat there.I use to eat following the singaporean crowd in my poly uni days.. but as i got older and tasted better curry fish heads in sg, i never step in again. my position is totally same thoughts as Ryan's
    For the cafe i went there in general is ok, good for photo taking. They have a nasi lemak croissant thats interesting. So far soso.
    Anyway all kangkongs taste the same.. rather then spending so much time to evaluate the kangkong, maybe you can order other special dishes.
    Hope next eps can show more delicious restarants in jb.

    I get it with Ryan's point of view. cos whenever I visit Malaysia, I am not into their food taste (malay food cos I'm a malay). The ones I remember the meat so hard like rock, rice dry. Cheap yes but not good quality. But I love the ones in their kampungs. Those are the best. Fresh and really good. Examples which I had which were veryyy good was in Melaka, Terengganu, Kelantan. My chinese frens from malaysia who work in singapore always complained the chinese food in singapore is not as good as their hometowns. And I told them it is the opposite from my perspective. So, different taste buds.

    i guess why its hype, is the value that you can get the quality of food (which is about average/not mind blowingly enough) which in singapore itself, this kind of food and setting will easily cost 2-3 times more.

    Seems the places that Singaporeans tend to go in JB is differs from Malaysians. I would never go to those kind of places. Haha. Maybe the Malaysians are not revealing to them their favorite eating spots. That is the bit Malaysians are a bit "selfish" on. They prefer their favorite eating spot remain non-Michelin or non-popularize among tourists. You don't want it to be overcrowded.
