Nowadays, there are so many Western TH-camrs who are based in China... but your contents always stand out from the rest. It's so relaxing (almost therapeutic) watching your videos as you derive pure bliss and joy from exploring the rustic and rural areas that are literally off the beaten track! Your loyal subscriber Wei was so kind and helpful as well. I suppose having a reliable travel companion also adds a greater sense of security and brings peace of mind.

I know this video is two years old, but I just had to comment and commiserate my loss of a huge beautiful handmade basket I had to throw away because I was moving and didn't have any where to put it. 😭 I'm still bummed about my basket! It was made in China too, although a dying art, I'm glad to see people are still making them. I wish I could go there to learn myself! ❤ 🧺

😍😍😍❤️Katherine, I must say this is one of the most beautiful and amazing places and videos you are showing us . Your fan really helped you to guide us to realize how precious of details in. each project they have been working are made by bamboo with their hands . Amazing ! The beautiful river and trees make you fall in love this place . We have learned interesting culture and seen many decent Chinese working on one of the hardest bamboo crafts for almost their entire life but have no other interests to make changes just to make more money . They are satisfied with their work and life . This made me to look around everything next me and what people do in the modern city and the kind of pandemic life we have that limit us to lose the basic freedom of going out just to walk , eat and work freely . The only thing we do the most is using electronic device to connect outside world . Anything we see is unable to smell or touch unless we pay to get things to be delivered t our home . It’s uneasy to access a place with beautiful natural and interesting culture , antiques surround you . because our life style is very limited and many of us are very used to work at home for a long time . We forgot what we used to like to do , people don’t know what’s the meaning of their life and don’t even know what we are looking for ...everyone is trying to survive with more masks we are buying to cover our face just wish we don’t pass virus to our family and all our loved ones . One the day when we just go out to the work in person maybe once a week or try to get some groceries and coffee on the same day it’s the only day i get to see the real world ..most people rather get back home right away so they can go back to the kind of isolated life they have been living for 2.3 years just sit home to hold their cell phone 24/7 as they feel they are holding everything they need . Looking at the people who are making projects I’ve been with so much hard works in a beautiful country side without anything from modern society but they don’t worry to get infected by virus . They have freedom to keep the same kind of life style and adult routines as they have always had before .. We only need a peaceful life with good health to feel safe to walk outside if our home and have freedom to access basic things even if our phone is not with us or out of battery . This video also taught us that we should start to think what we really want for our future and how we should appreciate what we have and what we have had . It reminds us how precious to have every moment we can share life together and how important is to live in a peaceful land that we all share together . It’s so important we connect each other , care about each other and support each other so we can all have a healthy and peaceful place to stay , Thank you Katherine for sharing a wonderful video with us and thanks to your fan Wei for introducing the basic needs and freedom we have lost for so long and we realize we truly miss them . Love & Blessings to you and all lovely people you meet daily .Looking forward to seeing you in your next video
    Take care 🙏🥰💕💕

I always find it interesting exploring the countryside and seeing how different the lifestyle of the older generation is , these men are just content making their baskets and making enough money to get by in their peaceful village , it’s unimaginable to the younger generation to be content with the simplest things 🧺 we always want to be making more money and moving up on the food chain

Your video is constantly reminding us a life with happiness is not to focus on how much money we need to make . A peaceful life is what we need which can make us very happy . My father used to tell me the only way to keep us happy forever is to do things no one likes to do and no one wants to do and no one can do that makes us useful so we people rely us which make us feel useful . That’s how we make our life meaningful .a meaningful life will bring us more happiness . Bamboo is very useful and can be used to to make many functional things we use such as basketball, chopsticks, steamers for dumplings chairs and outdoor furniture and ..etc. I pray and hope more people can see more than just any villages you are showing us , it’s the kind of happiness, peaceful and simple life style with decent hard working people you have showed us in your video . Thank you so much for your time and effort to make each video meaningful . You and your video always inspires us in many ways . 🥰😍💕💕💕💕

This is an awesome video. Tiantai looks magnificent and gorgeous in this season. I would go berserk to see an ancient temple constructed in the 500s! I fancy old homes and the oldest I have lived in in Adelaide is one built in the 1910s.
There's something that feels like home in buildings over a hundred years old. There were lots of funny moments throughout the video; I've never seen a baby turtle bite a fish twice its size! Manic!
It's great you had a buddy to help "guide" you to some of the spots the locals knew best of. I reckon that has its advantages but there's nothing like the fire of care-free adventure of self-exploration. There are more ifs and buts in unguided exploration, but nothing beats what one gets in return for the risk and effort invested, I think.
I haven't travelled heaps in the last 6 years but it reminds me of times I pushed myself to head to a club all by myself, buy a drink, and start conversation. I was pissing my pants the first time, but eventually grew to love the excitement! I loved this video. I'm keen for what day 2 was like in this fascinating place.

I love exploring old buildings too, China has such a long history that it’s pretty easy to run into things that are decades or centuries old😍and every place has its own unique style , that’s one tragedy of urbanization is that regional uniqueness is disappearing 😂 wish there was a way to balance giving people a more comfortable and convenient life and integrating more unique architecture elements , maybe there will be more of that in the future

@@kats_journey_east I agree. I love history and the sort of adventures you go on in your videos, seeking out distinct and quirky traditions is such a pleasure to witness. Thank you very much, Katherine for showing the local dialects. Nope, I don't understand a word (thanks for your sub title) but it is how they speak, how it sound like etc., that I found very interesting & enjoyable. Same goes for all your cycling trips. Cheers

Another nice countryside ride! This one is also a more educational foray. Hope the craft of making bamboo utensils does not die off with no one being interested in learning the skill anymore. Hohoho.....As usual, the countryside does not disappoint. Beautiful sights, sounds and scenes. Old houses, temples , peace, quiet and tranquility. The lot, just the antidote for the wary city folks. And what a coincidence - both ways! Oops Wei Wong 1 & 2 hehehe....

Your interactions and conversations with the locals are interesting, and your narrations are fun too. It’s great that you had Wei #2 to guide you and hope you get more volunteers in other places too.

bamboo steamers go mouldy easily if you don't use them everyday 0-0; so even in china only resteraunts use bamboo steamers normally.
