- Fr Terrance gives the homily at Bloomington, IN, on Jan 21, 2025, how Franciscan Spirituality, like all authentic Catholic spirituality, must be rooted in and approved by the Church, emphasizing St. Francis's profound reverence for the Church and its priests as bearers of Christ's presence.
Father discusses how salvation comes through the Church (CCC 846), reflecting the essential relationship between spirituality and Church authority. He references St. Irenaeus's teaching that echoes themes from (Acts 2: 38) regarding the Holy Spirit's presence in the Church. The homily explores how Franciscan spirituality, like the seamless garment of Christ (John 19: 23), enriches the Church's traditions. Father emphasizes the Church as Christ's Bride (Ephesians 5: 25-27), explaining how authentic spirituality must be "grafted" into the Church's heart, reminiscent of Jesus's teaching about the vine and branches (John 15: 5). He discusses St. Francis's Testament, which shows profound reverence for priests who administer the Body and Blood of Christ (Matthew 26: 26-28), even comparing his wisdom to Solomon's (1 Kings 3: 12). The talk concludes by emphasizing unity with the Church, reflecting Paul's teaching about one body in Christ (1 Corinthians 12: 12-13).

Just like David when he was being persecuted by Saul.
St Francis truly understood God’s word.
Ave Maria! What a beautiful reflection. The quote from St Francis about the priesthood is absolutely stunning. I had not heard it before, and it makes me love St Francis all the more! Thank you for the teachings on Franciscan spirituality, it’s so vital in these times.
I know in my life experiences, that the Lord has led me to the Catholic Church. During a class at Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, we were having a discussion before class and after making the comment that I was looking for a church that match up to my visions, a particular individual(probably FBI or Secret Service or one of the other Intelligence folks because of the President visit and he was way to smart for that class ) suggest I look into theology. So, I went to the local library and found under theology a small book about a Saint which I read a little bit and after that I had an identical vision(different only to my circumstances) and that is how I became to know Catholicism. Took me another 15 years(or so) and the direct intervention of Saint Michael to rid me of alcoholism but I came to join the church. Been through much sorrow since but it's worth the suffering to know a loving and forgiving God.
