    Handel and Bach were born the same year: 1685. Handel in Halle, Germany; Bach in Eisenbach, Germany. 591km apart - 367 miles. Both were blinded by the same quack doctor as he attempted separately to treat their cataracts. Both were famous in their own time, yet Handel and Bach never met.

      Addendum: “It's sad but true that, after his death in 1750, J.S. Bach and most of his music were all but forgotten. It would take until March 1829, when Felix Mendelssohn revived the 1727 St Matthew Passion for three performances in Berlin, that Bach was rightfully elevated to the exalted position that he still occupies today.” WIKIPEDIA

    In the seventh grade we had a test in music appreciation. The first question was: Who wrote the Water Music? I knew the answer, but spelled it incorrectly as ‘Handle’. I turned in the test and when the teacher saw my answer he made a funny face and said ‘Handel with an -le. Why didn’t you just write door knob?’ That incident happened in 1972 and I still think it’s funny!

      Yes, it’s still funny, and the Water Music is as gorgeous as ever ! I fell in love with the Water Music when I was about ten, and began dreaming of playing the Horn. In eighth grade my dream came true. I got a French Horn and played in the school band right away. That was because the two music teachers were amazed that I had no problem playing after beats. (That’s all the horns do in a school band.)That introduction led to a long career in music. And a still love Handel’s Water Music !

      and Mozart would have said "Handel understands effect better than any of us... when he chooses, he strikes like a thunderbolt.”". Beethoven : "He is the master of us all" is sometimes attributed to Haydn or Mozart. Anyway the 3 had a high opinion of Handel, as Gluck had.

    Only German spirit was able to create this

    • @rv706
      @rv706 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hændel was naturalized English; and his music was extremely influenced by Italian music. He wrote operas in Italian.

    • @ravnesjel5305
      @ravnesjel5305 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rv706 Are you saying, a piece of paper makes you people? And on influence: there is no artist who lives and creates as an penisnula, every one stands in the artistical tradition. Händel in the of German compositors like Zachow:
      "Nach der Rückkehr nach Halle wurde Händel Schüler von Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow, dem Komponisten und Musikdirektor der Marktkirche Unser Lieben Frauen. Zachows Kompositionsstil zeichnet sich einerseits durch weitgespannte Großräumigkeit und andererseits durch (besonders in den Chören seiner Kantaten) atemberaubende kontrapunktische Verdichtungen aus. "
      There is a German proverb: Ehre, wem Ehre gebührt.

    • @rv706
      @rv706 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ravnesjel5305: I'm saying cultural experiences and cultural environment make composers. Not nationality of origin. Using the expression "German spirit" to refer to, say, Haendel's operas is perhaps a bit questionable since they were also widely influnced by Italian culture in language and style. Not a "pure German product" by any standards.
      Same can be said of a few compositions by Bach.
      And of many compositions of Boccherini which were very influenced by Spanish culture, despite Boccherini being of Italian origin.
