On a more serious note, Shakespeare lived during a time when Sanskrit texts were just starting to be translated into English, so people would have had a limited understanding of Hindu beliefs. The closest thing to a fairy in Indian mythology is a yaksha, a species of nymphs that lives near bodies of water. They play an important role in the Mahabharata, because they reveal the most interesting truth in the world.

Oberon sees Demetrius being rude to helena
Oberon tells puck to use the potion on an athenian man (demetrius)
Puck accidentally uses it on Lysander.
Now Lysander and Demetrius love Helena
Lysander and Demetrius say they will fight to see who gets Helena
Puck arrives and makes everyone love the right person

@@thatbluehoe7868 it's still an important part of literature. It expands your vocabulary and the audiobook takes only 2 hours... you can basically listen to that while you scroll through your phone and NOT fail a test (like the person above you did)

Here is the shortest summary you will get -
(Someone already made one but it wasn’t very clear). Here goes -
The main rulers of Athen are Duke Theseus and Hippolyta. Their wedding is going to happen. (Not important characters)
Now Egeus (Father of Hermia) walks in to court and tells the duke the situation. He wants his daughter Hermia to marry Demetrius. Demetrius also wants to marry her. But she doesn’t love this guy Demetrius. She loves Lysander and Lysander loves her. Now Demetrius ex is called Helena, she still loves him.
So Lys (Lysander) and Herm (Hermia) love each other.
Dem (Demetrius) loves Herm. Hel (Helena) loves Dem.
The duke tells Herm to obey her dad and marry Derm. She doesn’t want to so she elopes with Lysander to the woods.
Herm feels sorry for Hel and tells her about her eloping plans. Hel tells Lys about this just so she can talk to him. Dem, on hearing this heads to the woods too.
Now in a different part of town some workmen are practising for a play that will take place at the kings wedding. The leader of the workmen is Bottom. He is an enthusiastic talkative chap. They all plan to meet in the woods for practice.
Now at the woods, we have another scene taking place - The king fairy Oberon and the Queen fairy having a fight over the custody of a boy. Oberon decides to take revenge on Titania. He tells puck (a mischievous fairy) to get a love potion. When applied on a sleeping persons eyes, they will fall in love with the first person they see when they wake up.
Now Oberon is going to put this on Titania, hen he sees Dem and Hel walk into the forest. He clearly see that Hel loved dem but dem doesn’t love Hel so he tells puck to put the portion on dem so that he falls in love with Hel . Meanwhile he goes to put the portion on titania.
Now here is where it gets crazy.
Lys and Herm enter the forest and sleep. Puck mistakes Lys for dem and puts the portion on Lys. Lys wakes up and sees Hel so he leaves Herm and falls in love with Hel.
Now the workmen led by bottom come to the woods and start practising their play. Puck hates bottoms acting and turns bottoms head into a donkeys head. Meanwhile Oberon puts the portion on Titania. She wakes up and sees ass head bottom. She falls in love with him.
Oberon is happy with puck for titania And donkey head love. But he finds out that puck put portion Lys instead of dem. Oberon himself correctly makes dem love hel with the portion.
Hel and Herm are fighting with each other. And Lys and dem are fighting for Herm.
Oberon sorts the muddle out -
Oberon Removes Lysander love portion effect. So Lys stops loving Hel and returns to Herm.
Removes titanias love portion effect so she stops loving bottom. She lets Oberon have custody of the kid.
Oberon also tells puck to remove bottoms donkey head curse.
So everything is sorted. Lys and Herm love each other. Dem and Hel love each other. Oberon got custody of the kid. Bottom is back to normal.
Then the duke and his wife enter the forest and see these four . The duke relents after seeing dem love Hel. So LYSANDER marries HERMIA. DEMETRIUS loves HELENA. THE END!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate you Shakespeare!!!!!!!!
