I still remember when Lady Blackhope was a required quest for unicorn way, Wizard city has changed so much.
Back then in the old days you HAD to face her before going to the 3 other areas the changes is REALLY stupid

This was a lovely video! As an ancient veteran who refuses to go through the story again, this was eye opening, especially the firecat alley stuff. They took away basically ALL of the cool stuff about the elves. >:/
They went from "a bit annoying" to VERY ANNOYING
Biggest L of the story update was losing the Penny Dreadful quest where you get the Blue Cyclops pet, as far as I've found there's now no other way to get this pet

lowkey I've been surprised more people didnt campaign to make the first world free on the premise that the new streets take no time flat to complete. Imagine purchasing a new zone just to finish it in like 20 minutes XD

I feel like they mentioned the Krokonomikon and the Order of the Fang so much in order to get new players curious and hooked. But if to do that you need to namedrop an organization that was supposed to have been kept a COMPLETE SECRET, that's too much.

I remember back in 5th grade my teacher had us write stories and I kind of just basically wrote unicorn way with like my characters perspective of it and he loved it so much I got an A+ out of it. I thought it was super funny because little did he know.... ; D
i've been a player since summer 2009 and the game really has changed so much. New players will just never understand what the old players went through, the good and the bad
I was lucky to play the old Cyclop Lane and Fire Cat Alley. Before the update.
These two new one weird kind down grade mostly Fire Cat Alley.
I was very lucky to play it years early it before the story changed.
Sometimes I watch zenmaster blue’s wizard city walk through just to feel something.
Honestly the cyclops lane story with the bunny from Darkmoore was a huge L and made no sense. When I replayed again after years and realized the story changed, i thought it was bc that rabbit was gonna be character later, but he never even appears again.
They even POKE FUN at that when he leaves - I was like, "BUNNY??? Since WHEN"
Malistaire also appeared when you enter the death school for the first time. It was a little interesting to see him there but it kinda messed up the quest in the five boxes event where the player helped dworgyn earn a spot as the death professor after malistaire’s departure from the role.
I myself was annoyed that they flipped the dude in distress to a damsel like how everywhere else almost ALWAYS makes the girl be in danger. Also annoyed they didn't re-vamp the lines of Colossus OR Crab Alley. Honestly, I miss the fairies too and I really wish Feebo was back ):
(Actually doing a series or 2 on my channel where my girls go through the worlds first and then I have boys (plus a non-bi) go through to show the changes, so I do have old Krok and old Wiz recorded, fully.)
EDIT: Can't wait to watch them Twist the heck outta Krok. Hopefully they work zone by zone so maybe I can put one through at a time.

omg the damsel in distress thing annoyed me so much!!
For some reason after the story change NONE of my new wizards were able to make it to colossus boulevard… the colossal trouble quest never appeared when they spoke to ambrose and now they are levels 46 and 50…

One change I really liked is that Nightside is now a parallel world/underworld rather than just a random place under a cliff. You need to do a specific ritual to even see the door to it which is a neat change imo
For Cyclops Lane, I wanted to point out that the trolls were summoned by Cyrus in the old lore. Unfortunately, they only added to the chaos.
Nolan was also made more sympathetic in the rewrite, toning down his attitude and playing up his cowardice and faith in Cyrus.
Why did they have to change it? I remember when lady black hope was a boss in unicorn way lol

Honestly, thank you for the video. I completely forgot about some of the changes, I knew that dang bunny wasnt in the original cyclops lane. Its interesting, I am kind of sad that they swapped the roles in triton avenue for suzie for me personally though at least they added the second part to flesh it out a tiny bit more.
i noticed immediately, having played all the way back in 2008 and picking the game back up recently. i was like woah this is different! it also felt easier to me.
I miss the old story; good memories.

I only managed to get a video of like the last part of it or something because one of my old accounts was in the middle of it
R.I.P. Himbo Romulus. Went from "Uhhh, you don't look like a warhorn, but you have the password, go ahead" to "Yeah, our leader is acting weird can you knock some sense into him?"
Does it make sense? Yes. Do I miss himbo Romulus, yes.

I miss the old version in every way. Graphics, story, and the avatars. Everything. And they made weird changes too.
Edit: Some of these changes are super strange. I understand updating the intro story but like 💀 wtf is the bunny?
Edit 2: I JUST REALIZED they removed the 2 different types of elves and just made them all look like the first type of elves you fight. The elves with the crossbows are GONE.
I used to play all the time when i was a kid, and then again in 2020 during the covid lockdown. I remember the old firecat alley story, which must have been right before the change, since i remember getting to krokotopia and krokopatras tomb right before i had to stop due to do longer having a usable laptop
I love that in both cases of Triton avenue student of DIVINATION needs help of a death student to fortuntell them where their sibling is.

How did they manage to make wizard city worse? The new characters and plot are disappointing, unrelateble, and less immersive. That is saying a lot too but it really could have been better for new players.
I realized by watching this that for some people "old" story is the most recent I played. Damn i am a dinosaur.

The most grievous sin of this overhaul is the changes to the VA's.
who thinks Ki should make a second game, called WizardOG's, that has the original questline. Back when dragonspyre was the final world, no zeus gear, original storylines, original grandmaster gear, essentially how it originally released in 2009.

I remember playing a new character with changes, but I don't recall any of these massive changes. Were these really changed in 2021? I definitely prefer the old stories by far.
I honestly prefer the old worlds in general. Imo, the feeling of Wizard City and that build up for Malistair. The sort of Harry Potter-like theme, or "whimsical" as they call it. Even all of the dropped items look nice. While the newer worlds are much higher production, I end up just missing playing the original worlds. Even the gear seems to get more ugly the higher the level, but I think that's just to get people to stitch.
I agree and I don’t like the fact that the kraken is now a side quest it was part of the main quest one point
My dude, every time I go down Firecat Alley now, both Private Quinn and Shelus make me MAD. The former is way more cowardly and the latter is trying to SELL the artifacts instead of returning them (it's so bad that the ENEMIES WHO STOLE THEM are worried about Shelus getting them back then they are about losing it to us!!!),

I've not yet experienced any of the new stories...thankfully, my character didn't either. Otherwise, I think we'll both be confused.

The old thang felt more direct to be honest. I think I’ve been playing for up to like 13/14 years or so and so much has changed. The visual update I have mixed feelings about. It feels more cartoony but less fantasyish.
New Wizard City sucks. They also removed private stillson he serves no purpose now he's just there.
the old cyclops lane was better for world building i feel cause it gave an insight to how cyclops traditions are with the whole "Honor bound" thing now it just makes them seem like they are some lesser beings that are easily mind controlled when they are still citizens of wiZard city and when talking to romulus it doesnt make him seem dumb or anything just a pet peeve of mine i guess
I feel like Romulus not being dumb was the only upgrade for me - especially since he's NOT DUMB when you start doing Aquila quests which was even before the update happened. Still weird that they didn't make the voice match that one, though...

I still have a wizard with the old quest line and I kinda dont want to progress on it because itd probably be the last time I ever do so 😭

Nil it feels like they made the first arc shorter in a way like u had to do so much more in wiz city up to dragon spire it just feels less now
One change I highly disliked with the story was them changing the reveal that Cyrus and Malistare are brothers, in the old story it was a big reveal when he challenged you before Dragonspyre to make sure you were ready to face his brother. Now it's just tacked on that "Oh yea Malistare is my brother and he's gone evil, fancy that."
Pretty sure old story mentioned it at some point, maybe the death student in Ravenwood I think mentioned it. I knew they were brothers and never made it past krokotopia as a kid
It was brought up multiple times before DS, I distinctly remember Diego saying something about Cyrus being suspicious _because_ he was Mali's brother

Yes, as far as I am aware they didn't touch Crab Alley or Colossus Boulevard.
Does it still cost to get to cyclops lane I stopped playing when it said I had to pay
Yes. Sometimes they do free events but they are few and don't usually last long.
Haunted Cave had Malisdsres House which is needed for the Cult Mini Arc with Duncan and Gretta
That's the Dark Cave, not the Haunted one.

did they make lady blackhope an optional boss? i recently made a new character and i noticed i didn't get a main quest to fight her and i remember back in 2013 when i created my first character that it was a main story boss
Yes, I believe they moved her to being a side quest boss.
They did, now "Saving Private O'Ryan" is where you do it instead of helping him clear Skeletal Pirates.

the new wizard city is so bad, i now consider wizard city the worst world, at least storywise. the old wizard city had so much charm, the new one just feels so childish and feels like it takes so much longer than it does. the ftue is the worst update in wizard101 history imo, there are other very bad ones like the pet one, but that didn’t ruin the very first world of the game. i get that they invested time into the ftue, but i’m still holding onto hope that they’ll one day revert the changes
I feel a very real confusion playing lately, I played a lot a long while ago and only recently came back. The sudden difference of story is a weird experience. One day I'll free Nick Jonas from Grizzleheim though!
