Saint & Greavsie were absolute legends - both as players and as a double-act on TV. I was too young to see them play, but as a teenager in the 80s, this was THE football show. Saint was such a natural host, and Greavsie's incisive and always-witty contributions was the perfect formula. RIP two very special gentlemen.

Even though I'm a Liverpool fan...in some way I feel for Everton missing out on the Europe..Howard Kendall in fact left Everton this same season...lt was sad to see rushie leave lfc too...Also Elton Welsby interviewing howard kendall is an Everton fan....in those years in the mid and late 80s being the anchor of ITV sport... I wonder how he really felt about Liverpool then and now?...
The 5 year ban for English clubs really was a joke, Heysel was a disaster yes, and English fans were to blame, but how many incidents have the likes of Spanish, Italian and Russian clubs been involved in (although thankfully none with the deaths to my knowledge) and there hasn't been even a hint of a ban like that? For example, I don't think ANYTHING happened to Galatasaray when their fans stabbed two of their Leeds counterparts to death, if it had been the opposite way around Leeds would likely have been thrown out of the tournament sharpish. I honestly think it's because English clubs were mostly dominant in Europe during the 70s and early 80s, and UEFA really didn't like that, as after the ban expired, it took English clubs quite a few years to catch up again, especially in the European Cup/Champions League. The fact that the UK also had a Prime Minister like Maggie Thatcher, who hated football and it's fans for the reason it was the working class' sport, people who she despised.

Neil Warnock had brought Scarborough up at the beginning of this season. He said " If you'd have told me that next season we'd be playing Wolves, Burnley and Bolton in the 4th division I'd have said you were off your rocker" That's exactly what happened, all them clubs been up to prem and made a real fist of it inbetween then and now. Great times, real football and great memories.
burnely did survive relegation last day of that season..won 2-1 and the othere 2 results went their way....torquay drew (failed to win) and lincoln had to lose....tension that day....

Crazy i thought at the time Burnley were done for and now look at them!! I don't support them but I'm glad there doing well a proper football club
So simple and so entertaining! Easy viewing compared to all the crap we are fed nowadays !

Just to say, Burnley did end up surviving that season and Lincoln were relegated.
