A perfect example of just how talented he really was
was just drinking with Dad on Fathers day. Rip Merle and God Bless Your family
This is when music had a heart and soul and was real!
Anyone who gives a thumbs down should be required to explain themselves.
They probably didn't like the artist and/or his performance.
J.W. I was just thinking the same thing!! How can anyone give a thumbs down? I mean why are they even here if they don't like Merle?
@@unnecessaryapostrophe4047 Duh, but then why are they even here?
@@anghiggy5029 How else are they going to know whether or not they like it if they don't check it out?
J.W.: Great idea. They're called trolls: they hate music and are jealous of anyone successful -- the only way to deal with them is to ignore them. That said, Merle has two other recordings of this tune on TH-cam, both slower tempo, more time to bring out the serious emotion behind it ( like the best of country music), but this version has a kick to it that is just irresistible. I think I'll just stay here and ... listen to it one more time.
With all due respect to George. Merle is the king
As a Texan I can't agree (George is King), However Merle is top 3 maybe 4.
George Strait
Waylon Jennings
Johnny cash
Merle Haggard.
The True King of Country Music.
Best incorporation of brass instruments into a country song ever, in my humble opinion.
Newer one but you might like "I'm just a clown" by Charlie Crockett
Bob Wills and several other Western Swing bands were blending brass and string instruments very nicely in the 1930s-40s
seriously fine.
nothing like coming home after work, kicking your boots off pouring yourself a drink and kicking back to Merle. Cheers!
CHEERS BACK!
Wow! Country, jazz sax, bluegrass fiddle, barroom piano, blues trombone; all on one song.
it’s top shelf.
Top shelf.
Are you a baddie tho @@juliannerichards4549
What an amazing artist. Back when country music was adult entertainment and not bubble gum like today.
Been coming back to this for years. How awesome is this video? The little solos on each instrument is fantastic. RIP Merle, you were a real one.
Didn't realize how good he was on guitar! Grew up listening to his music.
What a great solo by Merle!
Merle sure knew how to put a band together. Could pick pretty good himself.
Yep, Merle could pick...
Amazing band
He was an excellent fiddle player as well
@@glenbeck5602Just love his supreme ways of singing all of his music love it love bit Fantastic AC
Did his prison time, came out and rocked the world with his music. RIP Merle
Merle didnt dump the older playets,he knew talent
No auto tune.... just talent from all of them
Talent and the use of auto tune aren't mutually exclusive
To this day this song remains my Number 1 Country and Western Tune. It's been my Ringtone on my Cell for over 10 Years. Merle was a True American Patriot who loved his country and Rose up from some hard times to become one of the finest Singer song writes in Country music's time. We miss you Merle.
I KNEW THERE JUST HAD TO BE A COUNTRY SONG THAT REMINDED ME OF OUR CURRENT SITUATION~~ ;o))
Lmao 😂
Man, Merle sure could play him some guitar.
Yeah! As classy a Roy Nichols solo as that was, Merle really gave it the grit!
@@commontater8630 Well you told me what I wanted to know... who was the guy with the black guitar....
@@robertbowles780 Yep, Roy Nichols. He really plays some gorgeous stuff, including at the end when the camera is on the other guitarist (Clint Strong, also playing a black Gibson) but it is Merle's solo that I truly love.
Nobody knows how good Merle was, I know as I been listening to him for many years & l wish he was still with us I’m glad I still have his music❤ RIP my friend, miss ya.
Can't get enough Merle, can't get enough of this song. A true talent and one that is missed.
You ain't the only one that listens to this song over and over. My dad told me Merle is great and hey my dad is never wrong....; And my dad taught me how to play the guitar.
Rip Merle
Your music will always be forever

Merle Haggard, "A True American from the start who always poured his heart out to us everyday and enjoyed every minute of his music with us", his music will live with us forever, as we love and miss you Merle, downtown Ricky Brown, Jackson, Tennessee
God, I love this man and his music! RIP Merle!
A true talent allows all the talents around him to have their spotlight. That's really what makes this song so special for me, at least this performance. Merle was a TRUE musician who knew how to hand over the limelight!
He knew how to take it back, too!
It just doesn't get much better than this!
Merle Haggard is just good . One of my favorite

Outlaw country from a real outlaw!🦋
Yeow! Love this song. Merle is almost more jazz than country on this one; love it!
I never want to hear a sax or horns in classic country. But live Merle.
Long Live Merle Haggard. 12-25-2024. 💕
Cmon people! Fans of the Hag should know this.
Love Merle so much. . Saw him at the House of Blues, like 25 years ago, such a wonderful show. Great vibe with the crowd, great voice, great band. Still one of the best live shows ( of any musical style) I've ever seen. Long live the Hag.
I miss merle so much..
I Love ❤️ Old Merle, The Hag.
An't no more like Merle 50 year fan! Keep it up ben
The essence of country music. There are lots of country songs just as good as this, but none any better. Right up there in the pantheon. Makes God smile and all the angels in Heaven fall silent.
Great song from the Hag....
To have a badass like Roy in his band Merle was pretty damn badass as well. Damn his band was tight.
Best live band in business.
Just really good country
Another great song from the great Merle.

He’s having a great time… love it!
The amazing Larrie Londin behind that drum kit...huge hero of mine. The album version really highlights Larrie's amazing talent more by catching each and every perfectly placed note, what an amazing musical drummer.
This is an epic video love all the instrument solos what a great time to be alive
Classic Hag!! One of my Heroes!!
This is my go to song every single time I leave a bar!! That and Family Tradition from Hank Jr.
This has been my life for over 25 years. HHa
Kids of this generation don't know what good
Only one of many great hag tunes
Im grew up on hearing merle haggard,George Jones,Keith,Whitley,Waylon Jennings etc from my dad listening to it. Also heard a lot of 90s country first favorite country singer was Alan Jackson. I quit listening to mainstream country around 2010 i still listen to to more traditional sounding ones most are considered Americana nowadays.. but one thing country music lost was the solo instrument parts like merle had in the 60/70s in his music. It showcased the band not only the lead singer of the band cool to show everyone appreciation....
Simply the King
Just Merle, ain't just Merle!
He had the greatest baritone ever
great guitar player
Love this Song..thank you Mearle
LEGEND
boy I SURE MISS BONNIE SINGING BACK GROUND, IT'S NOT THE SAME WITH OUT HER
A little country, a little rock and roll.......
Ronnie van zant wanted to record with haggard and waylon can you imagine that album.
I miss Merle he has 3 talented sons
Fuckin wonderful. That 25/50 ain’t so bad either
Dam that old boy can pick the guitar. I am surprised. Yes, Merle is great, and even though I am young and live across the world, I love good music. But I didn't know the boy can pick like at.
Merle had his hard times... and came out on top. Did anyone know or realize Roy Buchanan played guitar for him? go check that guitarist out. Awesome musicians.
First I've heard of Roy Buchanan playing guitar with Merle. Seems doubtful.
@@commontater8630 yes Roy Buchanan played with Merle
