It's like, it's so fucking depressing how the potential elimination of menial labour is a bad thing. Getting rid of service jobs by robots would be fantastic if there was some kind of UBI to sustain the American populace thatd let them actually pursue things they find meaningful. Create art, seek spiritual enlightenment, anything that could make their lives worth living But no, it'll just unemploy thousands and leave them in the wind because the only ones who seek to benefit from such technology are the ones who already have all the money in the world
In these plans, who do they think will have the money to buy the products the machines are making? It’s like a game of musical chairs where they figure as long as someone else is out there giving people a paycheck, they can just keep dismantling, firing and immiserating until the music stops.
Its more likely to take jobs from the working class of the colonized world, which is more like billions. Im more worried about them than a bunch of spoiled and lobotomized western folks who’ve never really resisted the state
@@emmy8526 yes they will. The rules are made up but the points do matter. Just as they construct the performance metrics their stock prices are based on, they will construct some new mechanism to justify why they personally should alienate value away from anybody else. I suspect at some point they will simply kill each other and we will have something that is closer to an empire simulator game than a recognizable society if they got that far. The purpose of capitalism is to discipline labor without the requirement of religious justification. All the rules are equally fake as feudalism and they don't care if you actually buy anything. I honestly think all this AI and automation talk is designed to scare the working class into line. If you always have the threat of replacing someone with an iPhone app hovering over their head they're more likely to just meekly submit to whatever work conditions/pay you subject them to. Even if the owner class could actually replace every menial labourer with automation tomorrow I don't think they would. I think on some level they understand that would require a huge restructuring of society or else it would create a level of social instability that could actually prove troublesome to the current economic elite. It's much easier (and probably less costly to them) to just keep all the wage slaves where they are while paying them less and less as wages fail to keep up with inflation.
yeah it’s definitely not happening as soon as we all thought it was. it’s become quite evident in the past year. not only does the technology suck ass; the hype bubble around what we’re calling “AI” is embarrassing, and any participation in said bubble just makes you a mark
American factory was thee most depressing thing I've ever seen. A Chinese oligarch basically moves into an old midwest factory that used to be a Ford or GM plant where people used to make like 35-40-$ bucks an hour and sets up a glass making factory where they pay all the same employees who used to work there making cars minimum wage. There's tons of beef between the Chinese management and workforce because the workers think they're being subject to inhumane conditions and shitty pay and management wants them to shut up and work faster. The company recruits a bunch of middle managers from the US workforce and they basically sell out their fellow countrymen for like a two dollar raise. I distinctly remember there's a part where they take some of them back to China for some bullshit HR team building shit and the Americans are literally crying about how touched they are that their co-workers are sharing their culture with them while the Chinese people look at them like they're completely deranged, like; 'Dude this is just some BS I have to do to keep my job.' Eventually the company literally removes the break room to increase productivity and the workers try to unionize, which is heavily undermined by management and fails. Afterwards the company just fires most of the US workforce, brings in more Chinese workers and heavily automates the factory. So a place that basically went from providing a decent living for thousands of Americans and their families now pays like 150 US citizens minimum wage lol.
It was a great doc. I watched through the whole credits looking for any reference to the obamas or their production company and didn’t find it. I think all they did was sell it to Netflix. Definitely not a part of making it. The Chinese side of it is also so grim. They are pretty up front with the fact they they more or less expect to die in an industrial accident someday. Workers picking through glass with no gloves; one day off a month; mass weddings at work; military style discipline.
Ai really is reverse jazz. Except instead of the musicians being blind they're deaf and playing by feel. Then because no one even gets actual jazz we're just like "yea...close enough I guess."
LOL self driving cars are not progress. The industry is driven by power and money , and the investors demand of a return on their investment, and nothing more. I am an engineer and industrial designer, and there are two important questions that need to be asked when there is a new idea or new design or "innovation"- Is it a problem that needs to be solved? In the case of self driving cars, no. Driving your own truck or car is not a problem. In fact in most cases, people love it. Then philosophically you need to reflect on this thought, just because you can do it doesn't mean you should. Self driving cars are the dumbest idea on the planet and the male species wet dream. Second questions, are they needed? No.
The ammount of collective time spent sitting in rush hour traffic due to things as simple as not accelerating up a hill is befuddling. If there is anything that is a waste of the finite time you have on the planet, it has to be a rush hour commute. Now maybe you don't have to deal with this, but millions upon millions of adults do. Maybe you enjoy sitting in rush hour traffic that is preventable by competent driving, but most people do not. Maybe you trust the average mouth breather to not contribute to the tens of thousands of people who die in car accidents each year.
@@kmitchell9891 What are you even saying? Do you think that putting everyone in self driving cars is gonna magically solve traffic congestion? Do you know that accidents and just volume itself are huge reasons why freeways are so fucking slow? Not to mention self driving cars are anything but a perfect technology and in many cases make mistakes to a ridiculous degree. Are you even reading anything about what is happening with Tesla cars and how they are just slowing down for no fucking reason and causing 5 car accidents? Self driving cars are no innovation period, just a way for capitalism to justify inflating the cost of transportation.

They hate Obama because his “hope” and “change” platform that he ran on was intentionally misleading because he wanted to scoop up all the votes from American progressives as well as liberals and ended up basing his entire presidency on the Heritage Foundation’s awful ideas
Obama's signature achievement was a watered down version of an already shitty Republican health care model that Republicans were thrilled to go ahead and gut anyway. He ran on "hope and change" and then governed with the same shitty neo-lib policies we always had. A functioning universal single-payer healthcare system is not "radical socialism", it's something that almost every other industrialized nation has and regards as a basic right. A halt to the hollowing out of the middle class is not "radical socialism".
