His journey sure ended after that record… was not a fan of him sitting the second half of that bowl game and letting his team lose THATS THE DEFINITION OF BEING ALL ABOUT THE NUMBERS
Fair point! It’s always tough when a star player steps back in a big game, but sometimes decisions are made with a bigger picture in mind. Maybe the team's strategy or his future draft prospects played a role-it’s a conversation worth having.
@ it definitely wasn’t the teams strategy to bench their star qb that they paid millions of dollars for in NIL $$ in their bowl game… he played for the record then sat for the draft, all about him
Cameron Ward's halftime exit of bowl game was always Miami's plan -- not that it told anyone One of the weirdest controversies of the season was the plan all along, sources say Another terrible move by UM coach Mario Cristobal. He let his star quarterback Cam Ward take all the criticism for playing only half of the game, when in truth, that was the UM plan all along. Without Cam Ward UM might have had another 7-6 season under Mario Cristobal. Both quarterbacks were always supposed to see time in the Pop-Tarts Bowl. "(It was) first quarter to a half max and turn the keys over to Emory for the second half," a source said. "As they did." That plan wasn't communicated publicly by Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal, who added fuel to the fire postgame by declining to comment on the situation. "I think all meetings with players and decisions like that, we should make them in private and keep them in private," Cristobal said.
It’s a tricky situation! If that plan was in place all along, it seems like better communication could have saved everyone a lot of drama. Decisions like these are always polarizing-some will see it as smart strategy, others as mishandling a big moment. Either way, it keeps people talking!
@@TouchdownHoops Here is a little bit more from an article by Chris Hummer for CBS Sports: "Miami always intended to get a longer look at Emory Williams. After he went 5 for 14 with an interception as Miami squandered a 31-28 halftime lead, it appears the fact-finding mission has paid off. Miami is expected to pursue other options at quarterback, reports David Lake of 247Sports' Inside the U. Though rolling with Williams in 2025 remains an option. There was talk that Ward only wanted to play in the game to break Case Keenum's D-I all-time passing touchdown record, which he did in with 4:12 in the first quarter with a four-yard pass to Jacolby George. But Ward, a possible No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, did not exit the game at that point. He played four more series, helping the Hurricanes secure a halftime lead. Still, the discourse surrounding the game centered almost solely on Ward exiting the game early despite several other Hurricanes starters sitting out the game and every top quarterback draft pick from last season (Drake Maye, Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels) opting out of their bowl game."
@@VILJL Sounds like a classic case of "what’s left unsaid causes the biggest uproar." If the rotation plan was always on the table, sharing that upfront might have saved Cam Ward from unnecessary heat. Transparency goes a long way, especially in high-stakes games. For now, it’s a lesson learned-both for the coach and for managing public perception.
@@TouchdownHoops I place the blame 100% on head coach Mario Cristobal (As of now, it is rumored that Cam might be the 3rd pick in the draft for the Cleveland Browns)
@@VILJL Placing the blame squarely on Cristobal is definitely one way to see it, especially with the lack of transparency fueling the narrative. If Cam ends up going as high as third to the Browns, it’ll be interesting to see how this controversy gets reinterpreted-success tends to shift perspectives pretty quickly!
Both solid choices! Cam Ward brings a ton of potential, and Jaxson Dart has the tools too. It’ll be interesting to see who rises to the occasion in the draft, but whichever way the Bears go, they’ll be adding a lot of excitement to their quarterback room.
@@TouchdownHoops Still a lot of the real Bears fans wants a winner like we have seen from Harlon Hill trophy winner Tyson Bagent as QB, unlike Caleb Williams(who is completely inaccurate as Bill Belichick and others has been saying). Rypien, Reed and Bagent were better than Caleb in the preseason games and either of them should have started over Caleb Williams.
It’s definitely a possibility! With his impressive stats and record-breaking performances, he’s definitely in the conversation. But the draft can be unpredictable-he’ll have to keep showing his potential and prove himself through the offseason to secure that top spot.
He doesnt deserve to get any recognition for the record. He abandoned his team after he got his record, he doesnt care about his team and is clearly self centered. He may be good at football but his character needs a lot of work.
Interesting take! It’s true that football is as much about character as it is about talent, but records like this don’t happen without a lot of teamwork along the way. Maybe the story isn’t fully written yet-let’s see how things unfold.
What an incredible performance by Cam Ward! Do you think he has what it takes to go first in the upcoming NFL Draft? Let’s hear your thoughts!
