    Hey there Samantha,
    Thank you for this video.
I do not own colored pencils yet, but am a professional artist. I just use oil paint or watercolor usually.
I seem to have picked up a serious interest in colored pencil art, and have been researching a bit which brand I should buy.
I totally fell for polychromos, but then found a research about lightfastness that was done by another artist (she tested it herself with real sunlight) and the results worried me a lot. The only brand that did not fade in 1 year, was Caran d'ache luminance.
All the other, including polychromos showed a whole lot of fading.
And since it was only tested for 1 year.. which is really a short time, I was suddenly completely unsure about if I should make art with polychromos pencils.
I wondered what your experiences are with the lightfastness of the pinks, purples and reds of polychromos.
I definately consider to purchase the luminance pencils from Caran d'ache and am saving money for it.
How is your experience with that brand? Do you like the feel of them? Or not so much?
Anyway, thank you for your video. Your art is absolutely stunning. Very inspirational

Sorry for the late reply, I have been unwell.
I love the Polychromos as they are great quality and affordable. The Caran D'Ache are more expensive and you use them in a very different way, so if you can buy both in time, I would definitelt recommend them both.
In terms of lightfastness, I haven't noticed any fading of any of the colours. I wonder if this is because we add so many layers and the lightness rating is based on one layer? Did the artist you saw add 20+ layers or just one layer of colour, I'd be really interested to hear more about this.
Thank you so much for your kind words!

Hi Sam, I know that the Luminance pencils are great for putting down base layers, given that they're softer than Polychromos, but would Prismacolour achieve the same result? I know that Prismacolour aren't quite up to the quality of Luminance, but they are wax based like Luminance.

Hi Neil, yes the a light Prismacolor would work in the same way as they would add a lovely soft base for helping with graininess and the option to scrape back with the slice tool for light and flyaway hairs 😊

@@SamanthaCliftArt thanks Sam. I have a set of Prismacolor.. glad I don't really need to get Luminance as well. I have some Polychromos to achieve the detailed work.

Prismacolors are bad quality american/mexican pencils, you can‘t compare them to Luminance’s swiss excellence… Please think before posting.

3:02 Of course we don’t need that many pencils, because we are poor and you are the rich and famous… Please stop being so offensive….. I can afford those pencils and ten sets more.

I don't see it as offensive, but I do find your comment spiteful and offensive. We all understand that this presenter is a professional artist and therefore has access to the tools of the trade, but any decent, intelligent person wouldn't hold that against her. People watching videos on how to draw clearly aren't professionals, and therefore the cost of the materials is of concern to them unless they are very wealthy. If someone is willing to provide information to make creating art more generally accessible, kudos to them.
