    • @daletwin1
      @daletwin1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

@@phila3884 I don't know if Paul wrote this song to sound like John but I do know that John wanted to sing this song and wished he wrote it instead of Paul. John felt he could have done a better job than Paul did. Personally, although I love John's voice, I don't think he would have done it better than Paul did. Paul had a more versatile voice than John and this song also has the clear, high parts that Paul sang better than John. From what I read it was Paul trying to do a song like some of his earlier songs that he used to do. For example, Long Tall Sally. He felt he had lost some of those vocal chops and wanted to break his voice in slowly to get it back on Oh Darling.
But, as John put it: "Oh! Darling’ was a great one of Paul’s that he didn’t sing too well. I always thought that I could’ve done it better - it was more my style than his. He wrote it, so what the hell, he’s going to sing it. If he’d had any sense, he should have let me sing it." [Laughs.]

@@ralphrennick4636 Notwithstanding the protests and demonstrations against US involvement in Vietnam, or anything like that.
Had you actually been alive and aware during the 1960s you would have heard, and perhaps even seen, "negative" criticisms of anything and everything, including of "The Beatles". A "small" example was the right-wing "Christian" pastor who claimed that "The Beatles" were a "Communist plot". To the contrary, rock and roll has never been about "rebellion"; it has always been by capitalists seeking fame and fortune -- in fact, John Lennon himself said that he wanted to be rich and famous.
And that they were Jews (Ringo's nose). "Christian" anti-Semitism was alive and well.
There was the "Hippy" critique of excess consumerism (with the exceptions of sex, drugs, and rock and roll). The riots at the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago -- which was a "negative" criticism of the status quo.
If "The Beatles" offered "escape" it was "'escape" to REALITY. What "The Beatles" did was inspire BEING AWAKE AND AWARE -- whereas you're about uncritical vacuity. You live in a "PERFECT" world of self-indulgence oblivious to actual "negative" REALITIES.

Paul McCartney was the vocalist. Nobody else in the band had his range and ability to transform his style. He also can sing remarkably soft, smooth ballads.
John Lennon is the other primary lead vocalistz and George Harrison wrote and sang lead on many of his own songs, some of which are among their best and biggest hits (Something, While My Guitar Gently Weeps).

One of my absolute favorite Beatles songs and Paul McCartney just kills it obviously. But yeah I as well like literally every element of it. Those amazing guitar stab/smears like a horn section in the versus, and then the super sharp accented staccato arpeggios in the choruses, and Ringo is fantastic and I believe Paul McCartney's bass line there just makes it. It's got that slow heavy moving underneath. It's just perfect

FWIW, and amazing as it sounds, the bass on Oh Darling was played by George Harrison, not Paul McCartney. The Beatles sometimes really switched it up, line John Lennon playing lead guitar on "Get Back, " not George Harrison.

The Beatles like you've never heard before Blessing. Wonderful reaction. Paul showed up early at EMI Studios for the better part of a week trying to get the raspy vocal he desired. This is a very stripped-down recording with John expertly handling. the guitar work. Ringo's drums are impeccable. George turns in an outstanding bass track while Paul plays the piano. Had the Beatles ever toured again, my hunch is Oh! Darling would have fit nicely in their set list. Take care MrsPP, RNB

Congratulations on the coming baby. I've been listening to The Beatles since 1964, and there are songs where it is still difficult for me to distinguish Paul McCartney and John Lennon vocals. Generally John has a more raspy voice, and Paul has a deeper sounding voice. On this one it is Paul on the lead vocals, and they were some of his best. This is a great song, and there are so many ways to describe it. Of all the descriptions I've heard, I think your "well seasoned fried chicken" is my favorite. One of the reasons The Beatles were so successful, was their ability to make so many different types of songs from the orchestra backed She 's leaving Home to the psychedelic sounding Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds. She's Leaving Home is a must hear. I would strongly recommend a song from their live rooftop concert called Don't Let Me Down for your next Beatles reaction.

Arguably one of the greatest vocal performances in rock and roll period. I saw Paul McCartney in concert several times back in the early 90s and really hoped that he would sing this one but I'm pretty sure if he had included it in his setlists he would have completely lost his voice years ago.

In another Abbey Road Beatles tune Paul sharply changes his vocals during the song, "You Never Give Me Your Money". Paul has some hard vocals and some soft vocals (e.g. compare "Lady Madonna" (hard vocals), and "I Will" and "Mother Nature's Son" (soft vocals). I think McCartney won a Grammy Award for Best Vocals on The Beatles song, "Eleanor Rigby". BTW there's a 5yo girl on youtube who sings "Oh Darling!" very well. Another tune where McCartney changes his vocal range is in the song, "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" (recorded after The Beatles disbanded in 1970).

This was from their last recorded album, Abbey Road. Towards the end they tended to look back at the kind of music that turned them on when they grew up, which this is an example of - a 50s style song. Paul could always pull off a convincing Little Richard.
They basically had three distinct ”eras”: First the pop period, 1962-65, next the revolutionary period 1965-1968, when they changed music forever. And finally the afterglow period 1969-1970, which was marred by conflict and bad blood between the members. I think it’s fair to say their last two albums were objectively weaker than their previous output, but I also know lots of Beatles fans will hate me for saying it.

You're gonna fall down a deep, deep rabbit hole...and when you climb back up...'things' will be different. All four had different 'voices'. Your ears will hear them on the songs and comedians have had a good time imitating them :)

Abbey Road was actually the last Beatle Album together. Let it Be was released after because of corporate and creative BS but Abbey Road was their final album as the Beatles.

This song was an album cut on the Beatles' "Abbey Road" LP. The Beatles had such an embarrassment of riches with hit songs, that "Oh Darling" was just another album cut. For any other band, it would have been a single and on the charts.
As everyone else said, that's Paul McCartney with the vocals (and piano), Ringo Starr on the drums and John Lennon & George Harrison on the backing vocals. Paul is literally the best vocalist in rock music, and John Lennon was right behind him. George Harrison was a little further back in the pack, but he was also a fine vocalist.
What most people miss about this song is the driving bass that thrusts the song forward. Paul McCartney was the Beatles' usual bass player, and he is superb on the bass. However, George Harrison played that driving melodic bass on "Oh Darling"! These guys were just the all-around best there ever was. That's why so many of the Beatles' songs all sound different.

I really, REALLY want to accept that it's George on bass for this song. All the authorized and contemporaneous accounts and studio logs say it was George, but it is SO close to Paul's style that I'm reluctant. Somebody needs to ask McCartney himself. My best guess is that George was coached (directed?) during the recording by Paul, 'cause that's what Paul was known to do. Either way, it is a bangin' bass line, one of my all-time favorites.

This is the rare Paul McCartney-penned Beatles song that John badly wanted to sing, and you can see why: A talented vocalist like Paul or John could tear it up like John did a few years earlier singing "Twist and Shout!" With "Oh Darling," Paul combined doo-wop, Fats Domino, and Little Richard to come up with this gem.

They are one of the few groups that I would buy an album. Most put a lot of filler garbage, maybe I just loved the Beatles or both.
