The "opening door" animation is the way it is because you're not looking through Newman's eyes, but through his camera (which he lowers when opening the door). Still derpy though.
Why is the camera being lowered though? He holds up the camera every single second otherwise from what I can tell. Why is he suddenly lowering it just to open a door? Does he not have two arms? If anything I'd expect the camera *angle* to be lowered so it's pointing towards the door handle.
@@A_Ereira Given the time period, the camera is normally going to be mounted on his shoulder and stabilized with both hands. They're pretty heavy units and kind of fragile, so if you take a hand off to do anything you're going to lower the camera first.
The origin of the "almond water" is actually hilarious. Cyanide smells like almonds, so some writers mentioned water smelling like almonds to hint that it was poisoned with cyanide. Other writers didn't get the reference and decided "almond water" must be some sort of mysterious magical liquid, and began making up fantastic origins and effects for it.
Observation, a Sci-Fi horror game, uses a similar filter to great effect (only let down by the presence of human characters with "uncanny valley" faces)

The Riddle Bros are back. Any video of Tom with someone else is always a joy. Be it Ben, Simon, Lydia, etc. He just has great comedy with all of them. also, at 41:50; “it definitely won’t still be there”. Famous last words.
Part of the reason why the door-opening animation looks so odd is that you're playing with the assumption that you're looking through Newman's eyes, but you're actually looking through a camera which is being held at about chest height, and he lowers when he opens doors. it's still a bit of an awkward choice, but it gives a bit more context to it.
Wow. No one mentions the sudden appearance of '3rd researcher' at 3:44 who clearly has a skull face inside his suit? Neither the characters nor the players say anything. This place is crazy and we use at least 2-man teams to explore it. Who is that standing alone ahead of the team that just went in? Eh, probably just Gary. Let's not look too closely. Move along.

After Simon's explanation of the back rooms, it kinda sounds like an SCP (no surprise I suppose) I remember reading about ages ago. Plenty of people have mentioned the infinite IKEA, but the one it reminds me of is the statue recovered from a fortress-city that would create more rooms in whatever house it was in. That one also went wild when somebody tried to hide it, and created a seemingly endless amount of iterations of the same home that got increasingly distorted over time (I think one of the "logs" described climbing a vertical hallway made entirely of jade that had been stretched as if someone had grabbed a corner of the room and ran 2 kilometers away with it). I don't entirely understand why people are so fascinated with the backrooms, but that's probably because I was so into SCP when I was a teen.
