No joke, Mauga is actually really close to what I was thinking about for the RH rework. Area heal/dmg resist, whole hog being nerfed and made into the primary fire, and hook pulling people in but then chaining someone to the Hog so they can't go a certain distance away from him. Now all I'm wondering is how will Hog actually be implemented, since the rework probably won't be that similar to Mauga.
I really don’t want it, I love Roadhog so much. I know TAB is going to get some additions, but they’re changing his primary fire which sucks. I still want to be able to clutch one shots against Anas.
Zen is gonna be Mauga's worst nightmare.

Like go through the team to the supports, isolate them to kill em with ease and you could the use the cage as a shield to shoot ppl that are outside

its good to combo with junkrat and bastion ults
ive been using it to counter soldier and cass ults. you get ult so fast even if you just get one in the cage it's super worth to deny the ults
@@CyberGhostArt a better, arguably funnier, combo is Mauga and torb. I did this so many times today and seeing the enemy run around trapped like rats while trying not to step in my coom was fucking hilarious LMAO.

I think the reason he hooked you out of charge is partially due to latency, and partially due to how the skill works. I think the frames of animation where he starts up *before he gets on fire*, are done before the effect of being immune to CC's is applied. Also my fear with Mauga is, while he is fun as all hell to play, he is going to have the same issues as Roadhog, against the same heroes as Roadhog. He's basically the same kinda thing: big guy with no armor/shield who just soaks damage but I actually think Hog can soak better. Though Mauga def has far more sustained DPS.
the only mitigation hog has is like 1.5 seconds of 50% dr during e, mauga has 5 seconds of 30% during his e, way better for mitigation, + he has the overhealth

Hog is really good at soaking up and dealing burst damage, mauga is really good at soaking up and healing sustained damage.
@@knyt0 50% damage mit, a huge heal *and* self-applied +50% healing taken that lasts a few seconds after breather. That last bit is the big part, he can essentially self-AnaNade which makes it a LOT easier for supports to keep him up after he uses breather. This means Hog has far more effective HP than Mauga.

@@knyt0 Yeah because in this one specific scenario Mauga counters Hog. But this isnt a 1v1 game. It is a 5v5 game. If your tanks are out 1v1ing eachother they aren't doing their teams any good thats for sure. You are cherry picking one very niche situation.
It's funny how they can make a Tank character that feels normal/good in terms of combat potential, but every new support is just more overpowered than the last. SirMajeed (Team KSA) exemplified this with Illari getting multiples picks on Team China while Quartz and Youbi couldn't do so with 2 good damage dps (Soj and Symm).
it’s so nice to have a tank that just shoots and it’s good at doing it. a shame it took this long to finally have such a necessary thing but oh well i’m glad he’s here. he actually seems really balanced and well designed that shout it what’s gonna be huge in enabling DPS characters
He's still needs a little tuning I think. His dps up close is a little high imo, his ranged dps is good but too inconsistent at activating his passive, and the passive itself just feels too weak to even qualify as mitigation.
To fix this, I think they should slightly lower his damage, but give him better falloff so he's still effective at longer distances. Flames should also be more forgiving to apply, right now let's say it takes 50 damage within 2 seconds to light someone on fire, I think it should be bumped up to 50 damage within 5 seconds, so his poke becomes a little better and he can farm overhealth on targets other than the enemy tank. The overhealth gained per shot could be increased, and maybe the total overhealth could also be raised to something like 200 from 150.

@rage_tv4493 I mean sure, but S8 isn't coming for another while so they'll probably make balance changes in the meantime based on this early data and reports from players. It almost feels like having the PTR again, for just a short few days.
@@tau-5794 But hes not a ranged character? Its like trying to give rein more range or hog more range lol. He works best when you can rush in and get in the enemies face. His long range is honestly fine. I'm not expecting to burst down widows but i can at least shoot torbs turret. That should be the range most tanks are set up for.
@erickim1739 I'm not saying that he should be primarily strong at range, it should just be an option for him to build up overhealth, rather than needing to constantly be up in everyone's faces, taking huge damage all the time. His ranged damage is fine as is, it doesn't really need to be altered, but I'm talking more about his utility which currently is just a little lacking.
I will say, DVA and ana combo'ed really destroys him, you cant heal when dva eats your shots and when matrix is out ana just nades you and you die
Yeah, thats his biggest crutch imo. He relies very much on being able to shoot targets which while fun, the problems creep up when he's not able to shoot/his shots don't give their intended effect. Reloading in the middle of a fight can also be very dangerous if you're not paying attention to your ammo.
Go DVA, Mei, Sombra, Ana, Zen and he is unfortunately useless xD

Bro, that hog was Nano'd AND Ulting WHILE getting pumped heals and he still couldn't beat you in a cage fight, that is so brutal.
You even charged into him while he was whole hogging you. Jesus christ, I feel bad for him ngl lmao.
I just think it's neat that there's now a hero who can facetank almost anything as long as the conditions are right. (No antiheal, no barrier, no defense matrix, cardiac overdrive active)

After playing a bit, my take is heroes strong against Mauga usually have high burst or range damage. He’s in no way strong against the typical anti tank options. Sombra, Bastion, Widow, Zen, Echo. Pharmercy was also strong against him at least in my plat level matchmaking since you have to have good aim to hit them, maybe that’s weaker at GM level. He was great against anyone trying to take the straight fight to him, but in the matches I got everyone was always playing Mauga so I don’t know what the tank matchups are.

@@yvng_c1v1c73I'd say the opposite he does great against her, I destroyed 2 Orisa players as him playing the other day being able to do crits with his guns during fortify is nuts, he kinda wrecks her (Masters QP lobbies)
He is fun but not OP just a good Brawl Tank like JQ with better mobility.
@@yvng_c1v1c73quite the opposite. Orisa gets demolished still by him. you can still crit and heal if you do the burn right click even with her fortify. her E doesn't last long enough to counter Mauga's E as well (Master/GM QP lobbies)
I think he'll be okay against Pharmercy; not as good as D'va but he can put a lot of pressure on the Mercy with his long range poke/burn damage
Ana makes every character have to play super slow I hate her. She’s the fun police
Fr, all they need to do is accept that they fked up her implementation into 5v5, and just nerf anti nade.
They can reduce it to 75% healing reduction, or 50% to tanks and 100% to everyone else, but it seriously just needs a nerf as soon as possible, half the tanks just become useless if she exists on the enemy team.
Having Mei Or Sym with Mauga is Huge they work so well together.

He’ll be nerfed by the end of his season. Blizzard has stated since Lifeweaver’s release they would rather release heroes overpowered than underpowered. It just makes sense to release a hero really strong and then dial them down after the hype is gone.
Nah, he's kinda shit ngl. Without a constant healbotting pocket, your health disappears the instant your E is on cooldown, and even then, ana and high dps characters counter him extremely hard. He's in a similar position to hog, where he has good damage but has non-existent self-sustain without a pocket
@@apollo1100 he has a lot of counters though best one is Ana and pretty much anyone with high dps and longer range and take him out fairly quick.
Maybe with the release of Mauga we'll finally get a real nerf to anti nade. Since Ana counters him so hard and Bliz wants new heroes to be impactful on the meta, all the other tanks might rejoice

Dva absolutely counters him. Her DM will stop basically all the healing provided by cardiac overdrive. So no heals come back.

His absorb is just as strong and you can rock him while he has his heal up to waste time
Plus Mauga base damage is kinda mid if he can't burn or crit so sigma barrier lives for a surprising amount of time

Plus, he has the largest hitbox, with his guns akimbo and lower midsection. Despite Hog’s size, there’s an element of skill in dodging and bouncing with him around corners, and Mauga didn’t feel clean with that to me.

His right click does critical damage to burning targets so he can headshot a golden orisa as well
Just me but i find roadhog gameplays more entertaining than mauga - feels very simple and honestly made for lower skilled play. just shoot and dash in nothing else to it. Whilst hog seems more skillful and cyx makes big cool moments.

I played some open q and had both mauga and hog on the team, i was only supp, its so hard to keep them both up as lifeweaver, i should have swapped but ended with over 20k heals

when youre trapped in the ult, does it still allow point pushing? like if the dome came up by the edge of the cart rather than containing the cart as well
You can still push the cart, but if it leaves the dome while you're still left behind, and it gets out of push range, it stops.
I have an 80% winrate with him, he's so much fun I do think he will be nerfed but I hope they dont gut him. Ive never had this much fun on tank.

He hooked you out of charge because the anti cc doesn’t start at the very beginning of overrun. You have to already be in the motion of it for the hook to not work

Mauga only has sustain through his own self healing(and obv the supports). I hear ppl saying he needs damage mitigation but he already heals like crazy. What he actually needs is to not auto die to ana nade. He already has better range than most tanks. That gives him better survivability as he isnt useless mid range. I think what he and other tanks like him need is a passive where hard cc like ana nade, hinder, slows, affect him much less. They should continue to nerf healers and simply allow tanks to have the control more in their hands rather than soley depending on what healers you and the enemy have. I say this as an Illari main. Tanks need more agency and the game shouldnt revolve around what supports you have and their skill level.
Role passives need a rework. I believe in giving passives to character archetypes rather than roles. Just look at DPS. Their passive doesn't even work on some characters

I think to help him against Ana, they can either nerf anti nade (would also make other tanks more viable, but very unlikely) or let him build overhealth through the effect. Sigma and Junker Queen can both somewhat counter it with abilities, why can't Mauga with his passive?
Honest opinion. I don’t think he’s a really good Tank. He is so demanding on supports to keep him alive. More so than any other tank imo

Hog rework looks fun.
I feel like Mauga is going to eventually get a big nerf before his official release. His damage output and sustain is incredible. I feel like if a new player locks Mauga they can climb easily purely because of his outrageous kit; it seems too easy. Maybe thats just me, but I feel like they need to tweak his passive, or the overhealth/dmg mit thing or something. He just feels so busted but it could also be too early to start pointin fingers

I think its early. Maybe im bronze and silver he'll dominate but so does lifeweaver and mercy. Ive also seen maugas that just stand still or walk up to bastions in bronze. I doubt he'll be broken but probably between S and A. I hate his ult canceling all mobility though.
I already dumped 6hrs into him and I can say he's definitely gonna be a solid pick B-A in the start of the season but the metas still gonna be sigma or orisa cuz there still better at surviving than him he just has a lot of damage but not enough to deal with either of em consistently enough
