Friday Night Funkin' is a Newgrounds rhythm game made in HaxeFlixel originally created for Ludum Dare 47. Programmed by ninjamuffin99 with a soundtrack produced by Kawai Sprite and artwork created by PhantomArcade and evilsk8r, the game can be played on Newgrounds or played/downloaded for free on Itch.io.
The plot of the game centers around Boyfriend trying to hook up with Girlfriend, but her ex-rockstar father Daddy Dearest doesn't approve of him. It's up to Boyfriend to rap battle his way through him and anyone else that stands in his way so that he can finally get freaky! Think you got what it takes?
Friday Night Funkin' is an ongoing project that will continue to receive updates, bug fixes and new content. A full version of the game is currently in development, having been successfully funded via a Kickstarter campaign. Check the changelog here for information on the latest updates. the lyrics are a reference to how they created this entire thing for one guy on their team, as he died due to cancer while sleeping, and they found sketches he made for this character, so as a memorial they made this, and the lyrics are saying how he would be proud of how good this is.

Even better, it can be used to interpret what happened to this character's version of boyfriend, his own girlfriend died somehow and it broke him mentally and physically, but the spectre of her haunts him. in a sense he failed, but she wouldn't let him die. a life exchanged, she slipped away.
Makes it all the more powerful as it speaks both to the meta and to the story simultaneously.

This guy's name is Yourself. He is a Bf AU, and not an Exe.
The thing is he lost his Gf in the AU, Herself. Her loss is the reason he looks like this, he is so disheveled because he no longer has the will to live. This song is his last throes where he reaches out to an alternate self for acknowledgement.
What he doesn't know is that she has yet to pass on, and instead lives in his mic. She is the one to enable him to cross dimensions is her. You can see it in the whole video, with his mic glowing red when it hits Bf.
More relevant to this, when you pause at the "Just loooong" part, what you thought was just red particles was actually her disembodied red spirit. Pause it.
In addition, you can also hear her voice joining him immediately afterwards when it happens, showing that she is still with him even after death.

Extra lore though not confirmed:The "So stay awake just long enough to see my way" part is supposedly for his creator, Divine/Divide. This is because he died while he was sleeping because of cancer.
Oh and in addition to that, he was part of the Sonic.EXE mod developers and when he died the other creators added to the mod where Sunky was pissing on Divide's name. That was just pure disrespect.

Silly Billy: the Bf and gf is yourself and herself, Yourself lost herself and herself became a demon while yourself became an angel, this made yourself's heart shatter because they said to kill herself. So it led yourself to losing herself, tearing off his wings, and burning them.
