Friday Night Funkin' is a Newgrounds rhythm game made in HaxeFlixel originally created for Ludum Dare 47. Programmed by ninjamuffin99 with a soundtrack produced by Kawai Sprite and artwork created by PhantomArcade and evilsk8r, the game can be played on Newgrounds or played/downloaded for free on Itch.io.
The plot of the game centers around Boyfriend trying to hook up with Girlfriend, but her ex-rockstar father Daddy Dearest doesn't approve of him. It's up to Boyfriend to rap battle his way through him and anyone else that stands in his way so that he can finally get freaky! Think you got what it takes?
Friday Night Funkin' is an ongoing project that will continue to receive updates, bug fixes and new content. A full version of the game is currently in development, having been successfully funded via a Kickstarter campaign. Check the changelog here for information on the latest updates. Even better, it can be used to interpret what happened to this character's version of boyfriend, his own girlfriend died somehow and it broke him mentally and physically, but the spectre of her haunts him. in a sense he failed, but she wouldn't let him die. a life exchanged, she slipped away.
Makes it all the more powerful as it speaks both to the meta and to the story simultaneously.

since Boyfriend couldn't cope, he couldn't take care of himself and eventually just lost it.
It is also theorizes the reason Girlfriend is with him is due to her Soul being in the microphone.
If you pay attention to his facial expressions when he says "how proud you are of me" you can see how much he is suffering and how much heart and soul he puts into the song."

This guy's name is Yourself. He is a Bf AU, and not an Exe.
The thing is he lost his Gf in the AU, Herself. Her loss is the reason he looks like this, he is so disheveled because he no longer has the will to live. This song is his last throes where he reaches out to an alternate self for acknowledgement.
What he doesn't know is that she has yet to pass on, and instead lives in his mic. She is the one to enable him to cross dimensions is her. You can see it in the whole video, with his mic glowing red when it hits Bf.
More relevant to this, when you pause at the "Just loooong" part, what you thought was just red particles was actually her disembodied red spirit. Pause it.
In addition, you can also hear her voice joining him immediately afterwards when it happens, showing that she is still with him even after death.

Oh and in addition to that, he was part of the Sonic.EXE mod developers and when he died the other creators added to the mod where Sunky was pissing on Divide's name. That was just pure disrespect.

So basically he's name is Yourself, or Billy, he is not an exe, and he is not lookalike, that is a seperate character, Yourself is a version of Boyfriend from an alt universe where he lost basically everything, his Girlfriend, Herself, is a dead, Yourself talks to her(himself) as a desperate attempt at coping with being gone, he went through an unknown incident that botched his body and likely made his mental and emotional even worse, Personally, he comes off as a guy who's lost all he's ever had, and is desperately trying to cope with it all, trying to relieve the old days, and he just wants to hear someone say their proud of him, either it br Herself or Boyfriend or us, he's a broken man who just wants to hear that everything is fine, that someone is proud of how far he's come and how he's still pushing forward
