- Exploring China's industrial landscape exposes its manufacturing and technological potential. I mvisited three Zhongshan factories that contribute to China's global manufacturing leadership.
A facility with 16 years of experience in weighing equipment is the first stop. The plant's ability to make practically every scale part ensures quality and accuracy. Simple domestic scales to complex industrial ones with smart technologies and internet connectivity are available. This variety shows the weighing equipment industry's evolution and technological advancement.
Next, a Torch Development Zone solar panel plant makes window-integrated panels. Automation technologies demonstrate China's renewable energy advances in production. Filming is restricted, but sustainability and efficiency are stressed, reflecting the country's devotion to renewable energy and technical innovation.
Galanz, a microwave oven manufacturer, is the last stop. In addition to leading the household appliance market, this factory supplies microwave ovens worldwide.The factory campus emphasizes sustainability and renewable energy. Technology and efficiency are seen in production capacity, sustainability, and appliance functionality improvement.
China's manufacturing industry i, productive, demonstrating its economic strength and forward-thinking vision. Local authorities and plant managers collaborated to reveal the intricate production processes that power the global economy, displaying industry and its creative and dedicated workers.

As a Chinese mechanical engineer with 25 years of mechanical experience, I have worked in several machinery companies in different industries. (There were too many job opportunities in previous years) Now there are fewer companies copying advanced machines. But there are also many problems. For example, many companies do not pay attention to the welfare of workers, resulting in workers involved in precision machinery not growing well and working sloppily. Most engineers are afraid to innovate designs. There are not many good components.

I am very happy to see that a lot of the production lines had chairs for the workers. I tried working a factory job this year and only made it 2 weeks. I was happy to lift boxes, happy to walk the 12 kilometers a shift, happy to pay attention to repetitive tasks, and was ok with the hot steam venting into the work area as long as I had a fan. But standing in one spot on a concrete floor quickly became too painful, even with good shoes. And by the end of two weeks of 10 hour days, I decided I could no longer tolerate the pain when other options for employment exist.
It is really simple, if you are staying in one spot, then that spot should have a chair. And the individual can decide for themselves if they need to sit or stand while performing the task.
Same here. I worked 12 hour days 3-4 days a week for 4 months. Smashed my quota every single day through the heat, fumes, and noise and then one day there was a "safety" meeting where one of the managers said we were no longer allowed to have chairs because they were afraid someone was going to fall into a lathe..... I quit with no notice the following week although I should have been more assertive and quit on the spot. Some Americans have some serious nerve still spreading the old "chinese sweatshop" phrase when American factory workers are forced to stand for jobs that can be done while seated.
And most people think China is still an agrarian society where farmers dominate the landscape.
outside the cities, it still is. ...such a diverse country for sure.

Its literally a very long standing joke that everything is made in China, because you keep finding the made in China label everywhere.
Thanks for making this video - it is indeed very rare to film inside Chinese factrories. I am one of the few foreign engineers who actually worked in a Chinese factory as a manufacturing engineer for a few years. I'm sure you were happy to be granted access and be treated so well in the factories, but unfortunately there are so many negative aspects going on behind the scenes at these factories. Every time a visitor (or even a high-ranking internal manager) visited our factory, we needed to put on a show for them. This meant turning on the factory AGVs (which were never used in normal circumstances), turning on large monitors with fancy colorful charts, and doing crazy out of the ordinary things to impress all visitors.
Many of us worked 13 hour days, we only got 1 egg and 1 small steamed bun for dinner provided by the factory canteen, everybody is screaming and arguing at full volume during the day, you get interrupted every 15 minutes when working on tasks because everyone thinks their need is the most important, etc. I could go on and on. But could never let visitors see any negative side of our factory because it would cause us to lose face.
I'm happy you had a great time visiting the factories and spent so much time to organize the visits - I know how much effort it takes to create the connections and execute these plans. I only hope that people can see the truth of Chinese factories since I experienced them first-hand - not just the fictitious images that Chinese managers release and spread. I like your video but need to spread the truth at the same time😁

I appreciate your comments; it's great to have first-hand comments on this. I agree that many factories in China (and throughout the world) are as you described and it's good to talk about that reality. I have seen both; good and very bad. Typically the bad factories would never let a guy like me with a camera in there. It really depends on the company culture. Those who treat their employees well have high retention.
I have been offered money to make videos for other companies, i never accept it. Often when i turn down the money, then the project falls apart as they can no longer dictate the narrative. If i take money, I would lose credibility for the video. I remain humble and poor.
If you are allowed in, the factory will of course show you the good side, as any factory in the world does. When you claim to be working in China and make negative corrections, you should provide evidence to support your claims, not just empty talk.
@@jzeng2022 I don't know why you would ask for evidence to support my claims. I listed very specific examples here that I personally experienced from my time working in China. Do you think I just created random stories about AGVs in the factory? I lived in Shanghai fof 4 years and 1 year in Hong Kong. If you don't believe what I've written here, that's ok - everyone can have their opinion🙂
I'm a HW engineer and have been in many different factories: FoxConn, Quanta, etc. they are both fascinating and ridiculous at the same time. I have so many pictures of the goofiest stuff. I've seen ladders built out of pvc pipe and tape. I've seen people write sad messages on the conveyor belt in English. I've seen 100K people going in and 100K people out during shift change. All of the people work very hard 6 days a week.
You're 100% right; you get it. I feel like out of all the comments on this video, you understand it the most. "It's fascinating and ridiculous at the same time" is very true.
@@WalkaboutRojo I spent 16 hr days in the factory.. don't miss it but I truly valued the experience. One time I was there for two weeks, flew home, and 4 hours later I had to jump back on a 14 hr flight back to Shanghai and spent another two weeks. Terrible

The employer is human enough to provide chairs in assembly line. Here in India most companies don't... at least at those where I worked before...and gotta say I worked in more than 5 company at least

The difference is they have OSHA, better pay, and at the end of the day they go home instead of living in a barracks.

i worked in china for many years and the factories are impressive. the good mentality of chinese people is that nothing is inpossible, they always find a solution.
I worked together with chinese people two times in my life and I really liked it. One time with chinese from Taiwan and one time with chinese from China Mainland, Shenzen. Both times were very good. Chinese people are at the same time smart and comfortable. Or how else shall I describe with people who always care about the wellbeing of others. And at the same time to better the production process. They are simply positivists and I really liked it.

I think there is a huge misconception that china's factories are just sweatshops. As we can see, they are pretty high tech.

On DouYin is a trader in China who sells all kinds of products to worldwide customers. He shared the insight he got from dealing with customers. His returning customers who previously left him would complain about buying from other countries, such as delays, slow shipment, poor quality, etc. The interesting part is his comparison of customers from different countries and their habits. Needless to say he'll rather not do business with some of them. Fascinating.

I can only imagine the red tape and the hoops jumped to be allowed to film in these factories. But it was well worth it, as it was an amazing insight into the scale of some of these mega factories.
no contracts were signed. of course, they dressed up the rooms a little bit here and there as would any company with a camera coming... but i also wandered into the cooking center and other areas on my own.

PLUS factory workers arent paid a monthly salary, depending on the company policies, they are sometimes paid once every few months. Workers also favor clocking overtime or night shift for obvious reasons, so the factory have better efficiency and larger capital for reinvestments because they dont have to pay salary monthly

China, or rather Chinese, is all about productivity. To be fair, it is a trait that is not exclusive to Chinese people, but most if not all orientals. Prosperity comes as a close second, but never over productivity. This has been culturally imprinted into the oriental psyche since time immemorial, so much so, it is not something that can be easily changed.

Im from the US. I operate one of the coil line presses like in this vid. I often work 7 days per week up to 12 hours per day. I wont be doing it forever but for now im doing it to get ahead. My hours suck but there's no way im going to make the amount I do on 40 hours anywhere else with this skill set. Im not looking to upgrade my skills as im looking to get away from being employed by others. I probably make around $120k on avg per year. Granted basically I work 2 full time jobs at one place so not very impressive but its the best I can do for now.

If i may advise, as someone who went bankrupt to home owner in 6 months (glory to Jesus Christ ) , Eliminate Debt. Drive an older vehicle get a smaller house. This will play you 30 years ahead of most everyone .if your debt free. The when the market goes up sell your tings and take you savings and whatever you have invested to get nicer things. CALL a finical adviser and stock investor ASAP! invest as little as a few hundred. you MUST get an umbrella policy for your cars and house. this is a few hundred a year and will protect 1 million or high if your at fault. Or Timmy snot nose trips and cracks his skull over your flower pot on your porch. Listen to Dave Ramsey BUT #1 and #2. eliminate all debt, Carry Good umbrella insurance. I predict it now with a person as dedicated as you to your work, You Will retire early and you will be successful. if you can pay a few things off by tommarow do it.

Europe cannot compete with that. The manufacturing and working conditions are a far cry from what EU mandates. Not just wages, but general cost of just having a manufacturing company in EU is ridiculous in comparison to China. EU either has to find its niche or get rid of the over-buerocratic bullshit and regulations that serve nothing but filling government pockets.

As I've mentioned be4, I do have my maternal side at Zhongshan and had so far viewed 3 factories, assembly, workshop. And honestly am still floored todate at what I had seen. 1st was a lightfitting manufacturer, next was a CNC workshop and lastly an export oriented lightings factory. Could only describe it as Wow, each time. The methodology at work was direct, simple and functional, as such I could understood what and how you felt when you viewed them factories.
Love the sarcastic answer. Here’s more. I love the Chinese factories. There is no discrimination. Oh but it’s “common knowledge “ THEIR ALL CHINESE”! The factories are so clean and efficient! Surprise, if not you get sent to a labor camp! Oh excuse me again, that’s “common knowledge”! And last but not least, thanks for working so hard to get into these factories. Now what did I learn because you teach and not report. Oh yes! I like to REPORT these factories are INSANE! Lesson learned!

Amazing video! I used to do product engineering on hard goods for a major retailer's private labels, never got to visit China due to Covid, but thanks to your video I'm able to visualize some of the stories my coworkers have told me about the factories... being a whole town, with showrooms, R&D facilities, and a whole kitchen and canteen with good food.

We now live in a era where a worker in a sweetshop working long nasty hours is now not only making the very tech and products we all take for granted but working now along side robot welders and arms that cost more than the whole labor forces yearly salary in some areas of the world. Right. workers in the US and Europe would never agree to work for their whole life in a factory and doing all day the same movement of the hand.
I would agree for the most part. And to be fair, the turnover rate of these workers can be quite high.
The biggest employer in the US is Amazon. Amazon warehouses all over the US do this same level of labor. Only no one is permitted to sit. I think what you mean to say is that workers in the US wouldn't agree to Chinese wages.

Nice, a Chinese sweatshop where you make less than $35 a week.
Line workers make very little money, it's a low skilled, high turnover position, but they're just a fraction of the people who work in these factories.
Meanwhile, in America, people up to 45 years old are sitting in their mommies' basement playing video games and smoking weed 😳

Probably better to film US factories because they are more transparent and open about sharing and they will get more breaks and don't sweat the small stuff. China factories workers looked generally unhappy and US factories workers looked happier with work life balance and has loads of human rights.
The Chinese people are very hard and intelligent workers. The EV industry is insane in China and give it 5 to 7 years and they will dominate the world with EV's.
Evs are definitely something to watch on the global stage during this transition.

Who know what I missed from the US factories? The strong sense of family: children, babies, nanas.... You just don't feel the family energy the way it usually was here. Bicycles, strollers, out, grannies about watching. Just everywhere. You can't get to the factores without bumping into those you love. Blessings. Thanks for your visit. Great video- thank you for the effort you made in securing permission to visit these factories. In general, I’m relieved to see some considerations for physical safety of the workers: clean and well-lit work areas, for example. To meet OSHA standard, I’m guessing they would have to install safety cages around those robot welders.
The new robots have sensory feedback so if an arm swings in your direction, as soon as it hits you it would stop. This is the new trend with Chinese robots. They are specifically developing them to work with people. Research shows you can do better with the combination of human and machine than you can with either on its own. For example if you are making cloths that have complicated stitch patterns the human and robot do it together.

@@aniquinstark4347 Look at the history of farming and see what percentage of the population was involved in food production in the days without tractors. You will see a similar thing in industry, but all it will do is give humans more time and more resources to do what they never had the time and resources to do before. The idea that China will fall to pieces at every turn in their development has proved to be 100% wrong. The failure is Western industry and political organisation.
Puzzled for the 1000th time why an American would be proud of OSHA - and I'm an American. It's almost like they revel in the ridiculous hoops business and industry are forced to hop through or else face ruin. Basic safety is great! Overwrought government committee safety at the point of a saber is seriously messed up.
@@Andrew-rc3vh That might be the case but you would never work side by side of a welding robot unless you were wearing eye protection. Staring at the arc is very bad for you and they are normally enclosed by red acrylic to save your eyes from the exposure.

I think this shows why china is so hard to replace in the supply chain, each factory represents hundreds of suppliers behind the camera that facilitate the manufacturing process.

Video's like this is important for citizens in the U.S.A. to see! We are fed continuous propaganda here that we are the most innovating and powerful country in the world, clearly this is NOT true! Science for science is fine, but I will argue MFG. engineering has lead to more real world progress that effects day to day lives and global standard of living than anything else. Look at these factories, China is not the next world power, it is the CURRENT world power. They just need more exposure from video's like yours to highlight that fact.

Amazing video and very well navigated, thanks. I saw some videos of dark factory, the whole factory turned the lights off because robots do not need light to operate, people just outside in control rooms and other sections.

Chinese factories are probably the biggest in the world, except for ship-building yards. The tiny country of South Korea makes more ships than China.

It was so wrong to create the rust belt, turning Prosperous areas into gelatos for cheap labor elsewhere.
So dark. One thing i loved about Tesla was that they wanted all factory places well lit, bright and clean as possable.
The factories that sell the parts to tesla are just like this tho, only the final assembly steps are so clean. Look up where all the lithium comes from.
