    For me it’s because 1) it’s something new and different. 2) for certain games. 3) to collect

    This totally looks like something that would make me happy. I've never been a fan of any of the IV controllers. I think this would cure me of that, as well as make me play my IV a lot more.

    that controller is from COTE GAMERS and cost 56 euro plus shipping which is too much to me but if you really cant play with those old controllers then it might be worth it .

    The only problem I had (so did you, most likely) with the original intellivision controllers that came with the consoles was losing the graphic overlays for them. That could be solved if you could use your smartphone as an intellivision controller with the it on the screen already

      That is pretty much what the Intellivision Amico is supposed to do!

    These things are really cool but like a lot of things built in limited numbers its pointless. It's like really awesome games made for the Vectrex or Intv that they don't make anymore only made in small quantities there's just no point to any of it. Maybe if it was a cool diy with a 3d print file to make your own. But as always oh well that's nice but most won't ever see it.

    • @trevorlambert4226
      @trevorlambert4226 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why does limited numbers make it pointless? If you want one, you can get it. 🤔

    Nice video, and cool controller Brian! I may have to look into one if they remain available, or become more widely available. The Mattel IntelliVision 2 was my first IntelliVision home video game console so I'm fairly ok with the controllers. Though I must admit they're not my favorite IntelliVision controllers either even though being detachable has always been nice. Back in the day a Mattel IntelliVision 1, or an INTV IntelliVision 3 would see the entire console have to be sent in just to fix a broken controller. So the detachable Mattel IntelliVision 2 controllers were always nice in that respect. Of course like with the ColecoVision controllers none of them were really ergonomic.

    It will also work on the Sears Super Video Arcade.

    While the action buttons are decent and it's fairly comfortable to hold (after filing the pointy corners down some) the directional part isn't as great as I expected it to be. In my case, the 16-way disk & joystick option wouldn't register North all that well and was showing as very intermittent on the controller test ROM and in some games (the Sorrow of Gadhlan Thur specifically was practically unplayable at times). I ended up getting better results with the 8-way D-pad style option, which kind of defeats the purpose of getting one of these since the 16-way directional control was the main selling point after all.
    Not sure why they picked yellow for the top half of the case either.. Terrible decision there, as it doesn't match any of the Intellivision aesthetics at all. 🤷
    It's really too bad they didn't follow the prototypes shown in the manual a little more closely.. Some of those looked much better, with the nice resin cast buttons, rather than 3d printed buttons, etc. Hate to be negative, but just being honest.. I'm quite picky about my controllers. 😬
    Cons aside, I don't regret getting one, but I still think I'll stick with my other aftermarket Inty controller options as my main controller. YMMV 🙂

      You make some good points however I found the joystick option quite excellent where as the dpad I did not. Agreed about the colour though. I'm curious if it would be possible to switch out the buttons for Super Nintendo ones.

    Most of that rattling noise when you shake it isn't from things shaking inside it - it's from the buttons. Shake it again while holding the buttons in place and you'll see most of that sound will disappear

    Yeah the people that like the original INTV, or as I like to call them liars.😆People tend to think you hate their platform of choice just because you don't like the controller but objectively they did not understand hand ergonomics at all in the late 70s and early 80s. They had arcade cabinets to emulate for their controllers but they decided they knew better heh.🤨
    Membrane keyboards of every kind were cheap but not very comfortable on computers and game consoles, soft rapid action buttons never worked well in all examples, and any hand posture based around squeezing in a claw like manner gets painful quickly.
    The INTV Disc is more of an opinion based subject on whether it was effective or not, I think in a few small instances it had purpose but the vast majority of games never used it's extended amount of directionals. Can compare it to the 5200's analog joystick, yeah could do some Missile Command style trackball approximately that way but what can Pac Man or so many arcade titles from that era do with such fine loose control?
    The LPDC is so much better in control layout, you got that classic arcade horizontal spread of direction & action while the central keypad can be thumbed just like smartphones, the Jaguar, and 360 Chat Pad did so well. Can't wait.😁

  • @treyslay753
    @treyslay753 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The controllers are definitely slightly better on the original Intellivision. It is nice that the Intellivision II controllers are detachable, but they just feel cheap. And the side buttons are even more painful to use. This looks like a pretty cool product though. How does it connect with the model one? I'm guessing you have to take the console apart, and I've heard it's a pain to work inside the og Intellivision.

    • @BriansManCave

      Nope!, they are a big bigger and the cord is on the side. Also the plug is not in the L shape.

    • @R3TR0R4V3
      @R3TR0R4V3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, not on an Intellivision II, because the cord comes out the top rather than the side. If it weren't for that, they would. Think the Sears SVA is out on that too.
      Should fit the The model 1 (2609) though, IIRC. Haven't tested this myself yet.

    I remember buying a Wico stick for my Colecovision. It was nothing like the Atari 2600 one! Had cheap membrane stuff for the directions inside, not leaf switches. Keypad felt better like a touch tone phone but then overlays wouldn't work well with it. Learned just because something has a "brand" on it doesn't mean it's as good as the original. Yeah, Intellivision II controlers were not the greatest.

  • @SGolenski
    @SGolenski ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great review. Great idea. But for me, it might take quite a bit of getting used to; I'm a right thumb on the disk, left thumb on the number pad... I've been playing that way since the early 80's. It's built backwards for me!

    • @BriansManCave
      @BriansManCave  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting! I don't think I ever played using my right thumb on the disc!

    • @IvoryTowerCollections
      @IvoryTowerCollections ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They do offer a model with the disc on the other side. There were quite a few folks that requested it and they did design one. But most of those orders are on the second and 3rd batch wait list.

    • @SGolenski
      @SGolenski ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BriansManCave I can understand that. You younger guys always have had the D-pad on the left and it's what you're used to.

  • @trevorlambert4226
    @trevorlambert4226 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Different, but doesn't look better to me. It looks like they used 16 discrete switches for the direction pad, which is probably going to require more force to depress and have a less smooth transition from position to position. It's also "handed", as in you can only use this particular version with your left thumb on the disc, and you have to buy a different one if someone wants to use their right thumb.
