I was WAITING for this Mobo. I legit deferred my build just to get this board. Lets hope retailers stock it soon! Amazing video as always!
You cant go wrong with asrock, such great value from this brand!
same!
Not sure where ur at but micro center seems to be pretty stocked
Just got mine on Newegg. Waiting for the 5600x to get here
I have no idea why it is so satisfying to see nicks finger point at every connector on a motherboard while telling me what kind of connector it is, but I could watch these for hours 😂
Bahah he's got his phd in finger pointyness 😎
It turns u on, right?
ASMR is a thing
I've waited for this motherboard forever and I'm finally going to build my pc
Same here.
Flix tell me how it turns out :)
cant wait to see how it compares to the b450 version that i have. hopefully its a good one!
I gave up back in Nov 19 and got the B450.
Did you build it? with what processor, waiting for mine to come next week, pairing it with 3600. Thanks.
Preordered mine and built my PC with a 3700x the other day, couldn't be happier with it so far. Temps seem good, power delivery seems nice, and I haven't any issues yet.
Is it goood??
I'm loving the amount of future proofing going into these entry level B550 boards. Another great overview and not a review Nick and Klaire.
mR Mossley wait for sales. Asrock does rebate deals, plus other promotional deals. On Newegg right now it’s $130 ($110 after rebate)
Why is it entry level ? Because it's smaller factor ?
Why is this man's subscription count still struck on 80k??
With the review qualities we get to see, this guy deserves to be on the 1M+ club.
So grateful people kindly subscribe who have still not subscribed.
We only just hit 80K lol.
Wooohooo Got mine!! Cant wait for all the rest of the parts so i can start my build! I looks like an incredible board!
Love your style of presentation. And agree 100% about VRM temps and people overreacting. Unless your running a case with no intakes or outakes on a stock cooler your average user isn't going to doing anything remotely taxing that VRM temps are affecting performance.
Just got this Mobo and it works right out the box with the ryzen 3600. Only 3 bios available for this board currently which is great. Loving the RGB lighting aswell.
I noticed 2 things I mind:
- M2_2 and SATA3_5_6 share lanes. If either one of them is in use, the other one will be disabled.
- 1 x M.2 Socket (M2_2), supports M Key type 2280 M.2 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s module and M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x2 (16 Gb/s)**
**16Gb/s is still a theoretical cap of 2000MB/s, so for most users, random performance rules day-to-day activities are at far below 2000MB/s
But I noticed 2 things I adore:
1 x M.2 Socket (Key E), supports type 2230 WiFi/BT PCIe WiFi module
1x Clear CMOS on the I/O
This shows what target lvl this board is going to. Overclocking-Gaming one for sure.
And for VRM results we got it here: th-cam.com/video/JxczZChFaZI/w-d-xo.html
86°C pick on 200w 3950X is a very good result on the B550M board.
Bought an ASRock B550M Pro4 a couple weeks ago. It's a step down from the Steel Legend in terms of rear IO and VRM heatsinks but otherwise near identical. Very happy with it so far. I love the forward compatibility options in PCIe Gen 4, USB 3.2 Gen 2 A & C ports, decent VRM heatsink (not that I'll be OCing, but it's nice to have) and the M.2 WiFi card slot for future wireless needs.
I'd only get steel legend because of the 2.5Gbit network. Pro4 is probably just as good otherwise.
Awesome overview. I watched this video after getting the motherboard for free. I also ended up getting a Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact from my brother since he bought a build to do a old school sleeper build and gave me the case. Runs super cool and quiet.

Great video and great board.
Love Asrock for providing dedicated wifi M.2 slots, or at least a 2232 support on most of their new boards.
But they should've mentioned in the manual how to install those antennas.
well, how DO you install them?
I love how you unboxed and overviewed the motherboard, I always wanted to view this kind of way in youtube tho. Subbed! For this great vid
finally a matx board . delicious content as usual.
I tried hitting "LIKE" button multiple times for your genuine opinion - vrm don't matter that much the way everyone else talk about it. Totally agreed. Great video. I am building my new RIG and sure it's just between asrock b450m sl or b550m sl..
I have to agree with you, the VRM analysis doesn't impact the majority of the users at all. Those tests are extreme and very unlikely what normal use will ever experience. People have to consider, most users are very unlikely to stress test their board or overclock the CPU.
Having said that, I have the MSI X570 Gaming Pro Carbon and pair it with the Ryzen 2700. I could overclock it to 4.1Ghz with as little as 1.32 and that's impressive.
Good lawd that is beautiful!
Had no idea ASrock was even launching this.
Got the old B450 Steel Legend as I needed a PC right quick, but damn maybe I should have waited. Sweet vid! 👌
fuck yes, Love the Steel Legend boards. Great video fams
Need to bump this up...I have the board and I got a free coaster in the box. I forgot to mention, I usually replace the cmos battery for a new one the batteries I get by the 6 pack (i have a few other things that use this size) at the local dollar store
"Hii Gear Seeker, Im Nick !"
Love these showcases you do in your first look vids, glad I'm not the only one that doesn't buy a board only based on vrm temps
picked one up with a ryzen 5 3600 a radeon 5500xt 2x16 trident z's and a corsair pcie 4.0 ssd for my first build. cant wait to get building
Great review. Odd they don’t include front usb-c but their lower price board does (B550M PG Riptide).
I like how you point out what is on the board!
I bought a usb converter on Amazon. Super easy.
@@soichirointegra509 do you have a link/what I can search to find the adapter?
I just got this Saturday. Will start my first gaming PC.
Congrats!!! :)
I really like your approach to vrm. It should just work, if not people will find out. I never buy bleeding edge, so I am waiting some weeks and if there are no mayor flaws, I'm going to buy. I even stop analysing temperature and FPS all the time, it hurts the experience of gaming.
Exactly. People obsess over things that essentially do not matter
I just ordered this board today for my own PC upgrade. Gonna pair it with a Ryzen 5 3600 and an RX 580 ROG Strix :D
I laughed about you not liking VRM stuff. It came from such an honest place I don’t blame you for not doing it lol
Yeah its just not that interesting to be honest. When people talk about it my eyes glaze over lol
@@GearSeekers hi, can you tell us why vrm is not that important? I thought (based on every other mobo review on every other channel) that the better the vrm, the better a mobo handles the heat from the cpu? If the mobo's vrm is bad then cpu will throttle easily in full load, especially the hot ones (i9, 3950x). So that was wrong? I'm a beginner builder so this is an honest question not a test or anything else. Thanks!
@@MinorVoices it is very important if someone builds with high end CPU’s, overclock or stock since not all CPU’s run at the same temps and VRM’s have limits. That being said VRM is very important to me, Its ok if a channel does not care, but I wouldn’t let them build something for me..lol. His channel his choice I guess, wrong way to got about it if you ask me, but his content is alright. Try to supplement your build videos by watching Bullzoid for that kind of stuff and for surface content, everyone else really.
By far one of the best best best pc channels on youtube ❤️
Perfect, this vid helped me make the final decision on this board for my build. Thanks!
What board did u use , and if u used this one is the Asrock RGB software bad ?
Hey Nick! You considering doing a build with a budget B550 Mobo (~$160)? I'd love to see it, and I think I speak for most of us.
Nick, love your no nonsense videos. Keep it up. I waited a bit and picked up the MB at Newegg for $130 after rebates. Love the features.
Hi, what is that extra 4 pin connector for CPU power beside the standard 8 pin?
Usually the extra 4 pin next to the cpu power is just for if you have a high wattage cpu like a Ryzen 9 to supply it with more power
I bought the motherboard from amazon. It came with BIOS P1.80. It was able to run the AMD 5600G processor directly. I did not update the BIOS. I don't have a video card. I'm using it with motherboard + 4x16GB ram + AMD 5600G. It was useful for me to run AMD 5600G version of P1.80.
Mainboard: Asrock B550M Steel Legend Amd Am4
CPU: AMD 5600G
Ram: GSKILL RipjawsV Black DDR4-3600Mhz CL18 16GB (1X16GB) Single (18-22-22-42) 1.35V (F4-3600C18S-16GVK)
The only thing keeping this board from getting a perfect 10 is the lack of internal USB-C header. Front USB-C may still work with the use of adaptor, but this board just an inch close to be the best mid range board.
They want you to buy the pro 4 for a little more money.
I'm waiting on the MSI B550-A PRO (or MSI MPG B550 GAMING CARBON WIFI if I must). Hopefully the temperatures will be okay.
I'm actually getting this motherboard soon, thanks for the info about it. Can't wait to start building 😂😂😁
Can you do a overview on the B550m Aorus Pro (the micro atx one)
Justin No yes please. That seems a great option for mATX
Nice job Nick. I am very impressed with this board. I did a “low budget” unboxing as well and will be posting up a build using this board as well. Can’t wait to see you do a build using it as well. Keep up the great work man! You and your wife are killing it with great content.
Thanks mate! Really appreciate the love!
Awesome motherboard, you are right, VRMs doesnt matter much, AMD doesnt overclock well and for stock clocks any mobo will work just fine.
I have been waiting for this
Ended up getting this mb, absolutely love it :)
Beautiful . I wish they include built in wifi 6.
There aren't many, if any MATX board with WiFi. The fact they added provisions for it is amazing
i dunno man. i thinks its nice as is. you can buy a m.2 wifi kit for cheap. and eventually upgrade to wifi7 who knows
@@GearSeekers WTF you saying ? There are.many wifi mATX boards ! MSI b550m mag , asrock pro wifi , Asus tuf wifi m.m
B450M Steel Legend and B450M Pro4 were the best budget overclockable boards going around. Looking forward to getting a B550M version of either of these for a bit of testing. I agree in general about the VRM testing also. If you get a bit od airflow over the VRMs there aint too many out there that are that bad.
I like this style of video - I don't overclock and don't care too much about thermals.
Question for ya - does it make sense to buy a Mobo with integrated WiFi, or buy a separate PCIe card? I'm planning a Zen 3-based ATX build for later this year.
Integrated WiFi is more convenient
i love the steel series boards
This board is really awesome! Wow
I wanted to get this motherboard as it seemed the best for its price, but since it doesn't have bios flashback I'm scared it will be shipped with an outdated version of the bios that won't be compatible with the 5600x. Any suggestions?
Now the question is, what would be the best m.2 Wifi card to use with the B550M Steel Legend? Hmmmm
waiting for some good suggestions as well
I'll most likely put one on there permanently. Broadcom usually had the best compatibility
waiting for any answer
R5 5600x can be supported right ? With rtx 3050
Alot of people are asking you to look at the VRM's etc because you seem to be the only one with some of these cheaper B550 boards in your hands. AFAIK the actual VRM components on this board arent 100% known yet. That said almost all of the B550 boards have better VRM's than the B450 Tomahawk.
No on board RGB?
This One or MSI b550m Mag wifi for the same price?
It's not Steel Legend
It's Still Legend!
Sry if this is a dumb question but is this a micro atx board or itx mini?
Such presentation and what camera angles you are the best
Can it undervolt easily? Bios?
You should check out the b460m steel legend as well.
Thumbs up for the VRM comment. It's not a big deal.
Maybe not with most B550 boards as they can take a 3950x with no problems, however it does become a big deal if you want to put a 3950x in a b450 board, unless you're happy with your VRM heating up to 100 degrees or more.
There is a TH-camr who analyzes motherboards and mostly comments on the VRMs. It is very informative but people takes his word so literally when he says don't but an 8-core on specific motherboards. I have a B350 Motherboard with subpar VRMs (according to him) and it's working fine with a 8-core 2700x for over 2 years now. A lot of new PC buyers now who never even overclock place a lot of value to VRMs compared to other features they might value.
I'm using ASRock AB350M Pro4 and got Ryzen 5 3500x paired with 32GB ram running 3000mhz CL18(2x16 3600mhz CL18). I'm looking for upgrade so I can utilise faster ram speeds and features that I'm missing. Looking at this motherbard as well.
On the PC the AMD and CPU indicators are lit and the PC does not start with Ryzen 5 1600 and this motherboard
Amazing detailed review.
Hello there.! the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G 4.4GHz Turbo can run and work with Mother Asrock B550M Steel Legend.??
Please do B550 steel legend overview
truly cool that they have redundant fan pins on the edges, MSI motherboards have only three pins scattered in the middle of the surface making your build ugly and inefficient
I'd like to have a question if possible. Do I need to put juice into both of the 8 ping IPS power connector and the 4 pin IPS power connector, or it's enough for just the 8?
First time AMD CPU buyer and I just got my rig working but a question: I dropped a Ryzen 5600X in the B550M Steel Legend. But for the 4-pin EPS power connector + 8-pin EPS power connector at 4:30, are you supposed to connect both of them up to the PSU? I only put in the 8-pin one and wonder if I may be harming my system by not also connecting a 4-pin? (I just don't understand if this is optional or required)
between msi mag b550m mortar max wifi vs asrock steel legend b550m, which one would be the best buy ?
Micro center in nj is loaded with them. Was getting a build together for my sons bday and decided on this one. Side note: does anyone know which PCIe shares lanes with the 1st m.2 slot? I want to add one but don’t wanna split the PCIe x16 that I’m installing the GPU. The manual doesn’t mention that it shares lanes with any slot but does mention that the other m.2 (not the WiFi one) shares lanes with SATA3 lanes 5 and 6. I’m not sure if I should assume it doesn’t share lanes and has it’s own dedicated lanes but idk I’m not savvy enough to figure this out yet this being my second build. Any information is greatly appreciated
Do all aircoolers fit on here?
How many nvme slot does it have?
asus tuf gaming b550m-plus wifi ii vs asrock steel legend b550m which should I?
Will there be an issue with the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240?? Does it fit?
Just got this for $130 plus $20 rebate. You think it’s a good deal?
i really like this video, clicked the like button twice
So when will there be a review?
There won't be
do you think I can pair a 5900x on stock speeds or light overclocking with a h100i elite capellix ?
yes it will work fine
@@camotech1314 thx
With the motherboard dose it come with the antennas for wifi
Nice board
Just got this in my system build...
One issue is the polychrome software to control the rgb, its a nightmare and doesn't work, I'm stuck with no solution from ASRock support, I've tried reinstalling different versions, flashing etc...no luck...
Does it support SLI?
Hey Nick, pls do the overview of ASRock B550M Pro 4
Same board
All the ASRock boards have the same PCB.
Except the Taichi I think.
VRM and chokes are diff , but then also make a dedicated video on that board want to use that board for a build
Can you change the colour on the mobo?
Is there going to be a video on how to use the m.2 wifi slot?
Same as using a m2 drive.
can i use this with a ryzen 5 5600x and a rx 6800?
With the wifi antenna cutout could I just screw the antennas in
No. There is no wifi card
If people want VRM analysis, they should check out Buildzoid's lengthy run downs at Actually Hardcore Overclocking. Yes, his videos are quite lengthy because there are a lot of individual components that make up a motherboard lol. Forewarning, he does ramble, a lot haha.
He also has motherboard round ups for chipset B450, B550 and X570 by OEMs if you're looking for some info on those particular chipsets.
He does want to do Z490 coverage but most people want to look at AMD boards these days lol.
Yeah, I'm trying to get this poor soul some views lol as there aren't many channels that do the lengthy motherboard, bios, overclocking and ram over clocking analysis in English. There are other channels in other languages that I've come across on the off chance to do such analysis and always wondered where I can find this info in English?
Der8baur is quite good in that aspect however mainly focuses on overclocking, he does have other interesting elements on the channel like in depth analysis of CPUs and what not. Gamers Nexus do extremely detailed testing on CPUs, GPUs, Cases, Fans, Thermals and there is a lot of info packed into their videos. However none of these channels go over each connector on the motherboard.
Which brings me back to Gear Seekers, as slow slide reel of the motherboard components makes Gearseekers unique imo, especially not everyone will go onto the OEMs website and look out the motherboard layout, plan the wiring for the case they want to get etc lol.
Not to mention, the music is top notch as well. Great stuff.
Did I miss it or does this board not have a front panel usb type c header?
It's not that important
It's important to me because if I have a case that has a front panel type c connector that I cant plug into the motherboard then I have an useable port on the case. That bothers the hell out of me
@Iwobosbecause of the high transfer speeds and it's the principle. Though technically doesnt matter now because I already returned the AMD parts I had intended to install in my NZXT H1 case (which has a front panel usb type c) and replaced them with Intel parts. The ASUS Z390-i has one but the AMD equivalent does not. I just think that's lame I believe ther are full ATX (and maybe MicroATX) AMD boards that has one but it doesnt make sense that the mini itx Intel board has one but not the AMD version
im confused which to choose, this or the aorus b550m pro, any tip?
does anyone know the reason why I can not install the utility (A-tuning and App shop) for this motherboard, put a clean Windows 10, then all the drivers from the official site, but after starting one of these programs an error appears - this utility is not for this platform
Is there any ITX B550 Board that you are going to do an overview except the Gigabyte one, thx.
Yep MSI one should arrive sometime next week. The shipping delays from Taiwan have been insane
is this board worth with 3900x with slight oc?
Bro in Asrock b550 and b550m which is better.
One is ATX the other is MATX. You decide
Is this better than the x570m pro4?
how do u put a gpu in the top slot without it hitting that heat sink
Does this Asrock B550M board support a case front panel USB-C connector?
I think you are referring to an onboard Type-C header. There is Type-C header on the B550 model located between the 24-Pin and USB head along the right edge of board but that header is not on the B550M board.
This or MSI B550m Mortar?
Can you show us which wifi card is suitable with the antenna cutouts please ?
Any
Hi, i like to know if this board have am3 mounting holes. I have not found any info and this stock bracket may cover them.
It's AM4
Is AsRock polychrome still broken? I have heard that the rgb software is pretty bad on ASRock boards
