      @@bucketiii7581 Try Chris Hedges or Thomas Merton.
      "In the 17th century, these speculators would have been hung. Today they run the government and consume billions in taxpayer subsidies.." - Chris Hedges
      "The population of the affluent world is nourished by a steady diet of brutal mythology and hallucination, kept at a constant pitch of high tension by a life that is intrinsically violent in that it forces a large part of the population to submit to an existence which is humanly intolerable.
      Crime that breaks out of the ghetto is only the fruit of a greater and more pervasive violence: the injustice which forces people to live in the ghetto in the first place. Violence today is white-collar violence, the systematically organized bureaucratic and technological destruction of man.
      The problem of violence is not the problem of a few rioters and rebels, but the problem of a whole structure which is outwardly ordered and respectable, and inwardly ridden by psychopathic obsessions and delusions." - Thomas Merton

    This first episode was pretty rad, I look forward to the rest. I refuse to ever get stitcher premium though, for any reason (why do people keep moving podcasts there? It makes no sense.), so hopefully they show up here!

    • @severalwolves
      @severalwolves 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’m just guessing, but maybe it benefits the people who make podcasts somehow, to put their podcasts on there? I don’t know. But yeah it’s crazy to think: sometimes _other people_ have their own motivations and incentives for doing things, and they’re _not_ all just illusions, or like, figments of a strange 1st Person reality in which only you actually exist. I kno, fuckin crazy, right? But there ya have it.

    • @TheJohnreeves
      @TheJohnreeves 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@severalwolves they should say that then. I know, crazy right? They are already on Patreon, I don't care that you want to defend making their listeners sign up for some other profit seeking company like stitcher. At the expense of their listeners just for a whim. If there was a good reason they might say what that is.

    • @Evan11of10

      @@TheJohnreeves I don't get what the issue is. Is it really that big of a deal to use two platforms? If you can't afford the episodes just pirate them lmao.

    • @TheJohnreeves
      @TheJohnreeves 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Evan11of10 I already pay for a million podcasts including Chapo on Patreon, and would do this one too. My gripe really is that they're using some dog shit non-standard podcast app like Stitcher. I'm not going to use stitcher. It is another private company trying to balkanize up the internet like Apple, making its own little fiefdom where they have control. It's dumb, it's bad, it's non-standard. And this show going on Stitcher instead of Patreon or something else is just a bad faith move imo.
      I pay on Patreon because Patreon just gives you a normal ass Podcast feed you can plug into whatever podcast app you already use. I definitely will pirate if that's the only option.
      EDIT: Apparently v2.unofficialrss.com/ is a tool that will use your stitcher account to make a real RSS feed of it. I'm sure Stitcher will try to block it at some point if they can, but in the mean time it seems to work. I still don't want to support Stitcher on principal because of their insidious business model. But at least it might work.

    • @TheJohnreeves
      @TheJohnreeves 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Evan11of10 Actually, now that I found v2.unofficialrss.com/about, that solves my gripe. Just signed up and got the latest episode, which I'll continue paying for as long as the unofficial RSS works. So that's cool. I'm still pretty mad at Chris or whoever it was for putting this show on Stitcher, I have no idea what is going through their head that this makes sense to them.

    It's too bad that, in this video, there wasn't discussion or even passing mention of the Anti-Federalism that came out of the British Radical Whigs and Country Party. Many of the Anti-Federalists genuinely were for self-governance, majoritarianism, more direct democracy, broad suffrage, and universal civil rights. Thomas Paine went so far as to argue for the rights of women and blacks, and he advocated an early form of social democracy with progressive taxation, land taxation, and a citizens dividend. Plus, Paine declared himself a citizen of the world, arguing that his country was wherever there was oppression. There were other working class radicals, often deists, like Ethan Allen and Thomas Young. See Matthew Stewart's book "Nature's God."
