Hemastat tool is what I use to craft and sew too. You can dip them in latex several times to cushion the tips or buy them that way in craft stores. I published the idea in Threads magazine’s Reader Letters page and someone patented it!

I have done them both inside and outside in the past. I found that I could make a more secure joint with them on the outside. I also really like the look of the outside buttons - so obvious in a way that I think is kind of cute and old fashioned. 😊
