  • Hey everyone!
Here, finally, is our video of the Wicklow - the final trail for us to do before becoming the first people to walk every National Waymarked Trail in Ireland (I'll leave a link to a video that describes what the National Waymarked Trails are below).
    TRAIL OVERVIEW
    ● County: Wicklow, Dublin, Carlow
    ● Official length: 129km
    ● What we walked: about 131km
    ● Start point: Clonegal
    ● End point: Marley Park, Dublin City
    ● Trail difficulty: 3/5
    ● Trail quality: 4/5
    ● Most common walking surfaces: Coillte forestry roads, boardwalk/bog bridge, and some small roads.
    ● Views/area: 4/5
    ● Camping/accommodation: 5/5. There are official places you can wild camp on this trail! It’s amaizng, all Irish trails need this! It was wonderful.
    ● Maps: We’ve made our own Tough Soles maps! These maps are free to use, remix, and redistribute under CC-BY 4.0. All you need to do is attribute us! Here are the Wicklow Way maps, and here are all the maps we’ve made. (toughsoles.ie/maps)
We did this trail in 5 days, although many do it in 7. Our stages were:
    TRAIL STAGES:
    🌲 Day 1: Clonegal - Tinahely // 25km
    🌲 Day 2: Tinahely - Muchlagh Hut // 28km
    🌲 Day 3: Muchlagh Hut - Brushers Gap Hut // 31km
    🌲 Day 4: Brushers Gap Hut - Knockree Hostel // 27km
    🌲 Day 5: Knockree Hostel - Marlay Park // 20km

The section where he speaks about being scared really touched me, how simple life is when you're just rambeling around the countryside, compared to the complexity of modern life and work. Really made me think about whats actually important...

Wow I’m really lost for words. This was a fittingly incredible documentary of the final trail. Thanks for sharing all of it with us, and here’s to the next leg! I don’t for a second think that this will be the last amazing thing you do.

Congratulations on getting your 42 long distance track. I enjoyed watching your videos. This will definitely make you go for a walk in Ireland. Enough inspiration from you.
But what are you going to do now that the goal has been achieved? Don't stop but think of a new theme. Greetings from the Netherlands.

I visited Ireland 10 or more years ago and St. Kevin’s Kitchen was one of my favorite destinations. I was nearly the only one there and the atmosphere was indescribable. It felt very sacred, like you could feel all of the souls resting there..

These past couple of weeks, I watched all your hikes, after stumbling upon it by accident (thanks TH-cam suggestions!). I loved every minute of it. I first set foot in Ireland in 2002 and even though I have seen a lot of the country, these hikes showed me there is so much more to discover! Amazing scenery, and you inspired me to try long distance walking myself, and once we're allowed to travel abroad again, I'd love to try some of these trails. Thank you so much for these videos, they allowed me to revisit a country I love dearly, and also allowed me to escape the bizar world we still live in these days! Curious about what else you might go and explore once travel restrictions get lifted again.

18:20 it's a shame they don't change the actual trail to this, because most people are still gonna end up walking down the regular forestry roads to get to Glendalough - the wicklow way isn't exactly lacking forestry roads as it is!

  • @raybo64
    @raybo64 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Walking via the Spinc was the right choice. The forest road Wicklow Way is not pleasant and you would have missed all hose spectacular views of Glendalough and Camaderry. By the way, that wooden stairway has been replaced by a zig zag trail.

Fab stuff! Enjoyed the journey. Have been following your progress over the last few months. I did the Wicklow Way back in June, and made a short film too, so it was fun (and a little odd!) to see all those routes again. In fact, I might even have a little PTSD! I missed the passport stamp locations, so that's a pity. Good plan to include The Spinc, and having gone the official way, I can confirm you didn't miss much. Have you done Declan's Way yet? I don't think it's listed yet as a waymarked trail, but it should be; it certainly is fully sign-posted. Worth a look, anyway.
