For me talking about Classic track this is the one for sure and great feeling to planing it for ppl that dont know about that music ganre is priceless they all love it !
Nick is an absolute legend. As Chicane he is an absolute choonmeister. I’m almost 50 and can still recall the 1st time I heard Salt Water at BCM nightclub in Mallorca. I was living and working in Cala D’Or. We’d head to Magaluf at the weekend with party prescriptions and the hairs on my neck went up so hard my scalp was almost lifted off my nut the 1st night I heard this. Good times 😍
@@AirPowered Young people today will know the feeling of hearing new tracks for the first time in a club instead. A lot of the older generation won’t…swings & roundabouts my friend. P.s Am 41 myself. 😂
100% remember hearing this in the temple theatre in Dublin when Seb Fontaine dropped it and we were in the midst of Mitsubishi heaven me and 2 mates. He dropped it at the end to close and we took our t shirts off and threw them over the balcony - absolutely still get hairs on my neck and head standing up when I hear this tune. Amazing memories of that night. Plus it was middle of winter and me and the lads realised after about 10mins we had no T-shirts on to go home in. Had to put jackets on and walk home 😂
Im a reggae, hip hop genre for life. Not much dance music im into except for THIS ONE RIGHT HERE. I was mesmerized by the arrangement, the sounds and amazing vibe like im on Holiday and then i watched the music video and that was it, my favorite house, techno music of all time "Salt Water" . Was in my 20's back in 1999.
I am so honoured to have been in my early 20’s in the late 90’s early 2000’s to have been a clubber in the UK when these types of tracks were released. I especially loved the Northern Exposure releases by Sasha & Digweed😎
hell ya. the first Northern Exposure is a classic! ever try meditating through the whole set? holy sh*t I've tripped a zillion times on it in 2001! it made me realize two master DJs can weave seemingly independent creations (ie. tracks) into a cohesive transformational story like a book! completely life changing 🤯
I was in my mid 20s at the beginning of the 90's when the race and Techno scene came to the Nordic countries and as I lived near Denmark, we often went across the sea to Copenhagen Hagen and even to MayDay in Berlin. Epic stuff and some incredible music. Saltwater is one of my favourite music.
This is one of the songs that will never be forgotten. I can imagine it's being played thousands of years from now. Everything about it is so beautiful and perfect.
Absolute classic, brilliant tune that gets better as the song progresses and never outstays its' duration of 10 minutes. The final 2 minutes still never fails to give me goosebumps with THAT arpeggio coming in at 8:35. Wicked business by one of my favourite all-time artists. For those that are not aware, NIck does a weekly hour-long show/podcast dropping on Fridays called "Sun:Sets" where he selects a bunch of music past and present - mainly melodioc electronica - to showcase.
Never knew this thanks for the info and for anyone who wants to know, here's the link to Chicane's TH-cam channel with some of the podcasts youtube.com/@modenarecords?si=A8bFUkIrUUqm3uNi
Nick, if you read this, you were spot on; it was Mark Goodier hosting the Radio One official UK Top 40 show when Right Here Right Now entered at number 40. I remember as I used to listen to the show every Sunday, ready to tape the dance songs onto cassette. I bought the CD Single the following week, and still have my copy now in the DeConstruction card sleeve.
In year 2000 I was working in Amsterdam. A guy on the work site asked what my fave trance tune was, I said, Chicane-Saltwater. 23 years later, it’s still my favourite trance track!!
Saltwater is the embodiment of trance music. It is everything a good trance track should be - punchy (but not hard) bass, catchy (but not too fast) tune, ethereal vocals that say something (but don't intrude) - all packaged in grade A sound engineering.
When i firstly heard this song in a Tiesto liveset, I literally cant believe how can this kind of perfect masterpiece exists in the universe. I remember rewinded the audio countless times to listen Saltwater again and again. It was incredible. I never forget that feeling. I was about 17 at that time. I surely can say, Saltwater is the best trance song i ever heard in my life. And later on, after 20+ years, it still makes the same impact on me.
this song was my introduction to trance in 1999 along with greece 2000 and atb. oooh, i had one album, played it like 1000 times. a day. playing it still
Both Saltwater and Offshore are absolute legends. Still getting goosebumps when hearing this. It's one of these timeless tracksthat bring you back to a certain time in your life when you first heard this song. BAM. Instantly back there, the smells, the location, it all comes rushing back to you.
Same! Full on junglist but trance was my introduction to raving and still have a soft spot for it… actually ØTTA’s boiler room set was a nice reminder how a good a goa bassline can still make me twitch!
Just how f*cking good it still sounds after 20 years or so, that means they made amazing work back then. This track never gets old! Bringing together ravers of generations 🎵❤️
Back in 1999 I listened to "Saltwater" for the first time and was MINDBLOWN! Suffice to say, Chicane made sure I was hooked and to this day - it's still my FAV go-to "feel good tune!"
Saltwater is an absolutely breathtaking masterpiece. The first time I heard it was on ASOT 300. Menno de Jong played The Thrillseekers remix. Such sorrow; such hope. The hairs on my arms stand on end just thinking about it.
Every time I turn on Cafe del Mar Radio and I hear it I get goosebumps, even to this day. This and Paul van Dyk's "For an Angel" are the best trance tunes for me.
This is on my favourite list of trance/house music. Every time I do my trip to the Nürburgring this song is on my playlist. I couldn't be happier cruising my modified 90s car to the Ring and blasting some trance classics through the speakers, do some laps on track and listening to trance classics some more. Saltwater is so deeply connected to most of my good memories. I even remember admiring the video on TMF in the late 90s.
I've never been into the club scene, wasn't much into electronic music at all back in this time, but a guy at work introduced me to this album. The job (and my life) was super intense and stressful at that time, but this album was like auditory anxiety medicine. It really helped to take the edge off those days, and will always hold a special place in my heart.
Some of the most brilliant tracks I STILL ABSOLUTELY LOVE TODAY are from the 'Behind The Sun' and 'Far From the Madenning Crowd' are 'Saltwater', 'No Ordinary Morning', Low Sun', 'From Blue To Green', 'Red Skies', and my top fave from those two albums 'Leaving Town' WHAT A TRACK! 👌👍 😎🇬🇧
My favourite dance track of all time. I can loop it for hours and hours all day long. It's transcendental and to me the definition of trance music. Interesting to hear the sheer effort it took to construct, and how the analogue systems made it such a challenge. I'll definitely say it was worth it!
I remember hearing this for the first time as a big metal head and I got instant goosebumps and tears of joy, which I still get every time I hear this masterpiece. It opened my mind....started listening to a lot of electronic music since then but still this track is my number 1 of all time.
One of the best edm tracks of all time. Masterpiece. The bit about the half-drowned Previa for the video is priceless. Made the track a literal successor to Offshore for at least one sad little van. Rust in peace poor prevvy
The early Chicane and Disco Citizens stuff I simply never tire of. Far From the Maddening Crowds is probably one of my favourite albums of all time, if not THE favourite.. Nick's music has been such a big part of my life. What a total legend.
My favorite song of all time. There’s freedom, nostalgia and combines heavenly atmosphere and lush vocals with pulsing peaks. Definitely one of the best trance songs I’ve heard!
Remember buying Far From The Maddening Crowds year was 1997/98 Turing 17/18. Loved the sound. Followed chicane ever since, he has kept his career going a long time. Thanks for the music and the memories. Sunstroke, Offshore, Red Skies, Lost you Somewhere, Saltwater the list goes on and on.
So happy and lucky that i was there when techno and trance was born early 90`s en 2000 :) So many happy and respecting people dancing and having fun! Just absolute fun !
This was the "highlight" track I played at my first dj gig outside the UK, a club in Germany called the media hall, and my God it went off, thank you chicane
i first got into house music in 1991. Took a break in 96 to 98. Then in 99 i got back into it. This was a track that had so much melody and a real feeling to it when it came out. It was around when trance was huge in 99 to 03. Still one of my faves.
