It really is just another layer of comedy that the one played-straight cover for a fan dub is for the game that is the most self-serious out of ANY they’ve done lol
I still think that Penny made a pretty smart decision to use vocal layering when singing parts that were a little to high or gritty for her. Great cover.
Pretty simple concept, She sings one line, and then a different one (or the same line but with a different pitch or tone) and then layers the two over the top of each other, so they play at the same time and create a unique sound that you can’t make with your voice unedited.
I love this song like a son so I thought I'd hate hearing a non-metal/hard rock-style singer sing it, but despite it definitely not being how I'd sing it personally (with a lot more angery vibes) I fucking adore this style take. It reminds me so much of the edgy pop goth/punk girl scene for music from the 2000s, super nostalgic, super badass femme. Penny's voice has some really good emotional energy to it, which is EXACTLY what that era of pop punk/metal was known for. Reminds me a lot of Evarescence(sp?)

Recently happened upon the Fandubs after years of my friends quoting and sending clips from them so I decided to give them a watch and was more than pleasantly surprised by this absolute headbanger when I started watching the Shadow Dub. This cover's overall vibe really made me think of the major boss fights from Sonic Frontiers and that's a massive compliment coming from me since those songs kicked so much ass and this cover's no different. I squealed with joy when I heard this. This game was part of my childhood and I love every edgey minute of it. Shadow was one of the first games to introduce 'multiple endings' to games amd I loooove games like that now. I was so excited just to hear you wanted to do a fandub. Penny sounds so cool, and Victor and Noah McKnight made the music super badass, a perfect fit for the dub! Love the art Sen did for the two uploads, the "heaven vs hell" vibe is a really nice touch!!
