@@anshum1n You clearly do not get the point of her answer. The first sentence already explains her stand on the legalization of marijuana. She into it for medical use but not for recreational use. That's crystal clear! She went on to explain further by simply comparing the use of alcohol and cigarette that doesn't have any medical use at all and has been legal in many countries for centuries compared to marijuana that has medical benefits. So, everything is good but should be in moderation. Her answer is short and on point but it takes few intelligent people to understand. Puerto Rico did not answer the question "Why is freedom of the press important?" but instead, she explains the role of the press in our community. Vietnam's answer was even better than Puerto Rico but the interpreter messed it up.
I’ve commented the same thing on other videos, but for me Miss Philippines won when she posed during gown. She pushed her hair back with her arm up and she just looked effortlessly beautiful. 😍
@@DaniWalker yep, she brought it to Universe... I was hoping you'd mention in more detail how some girls brought their best dresses in the prelims only to change it come finals with 'meh' dresses. Again, if it ain't broke...
Catriona I think (Just my opinion) was the most prepared Ms. Philippines ever. She was involved in all aspects of her Ms. Universe journey, from the gown details to the national costume, even her earrings and ear cuff. She made sure that everything she will wear represents the Philippines culture. I salute her for that. Well deserved crown.
By the way, she's the only Filipina who won both the Ms. World Philippines and Ms. Universe Philippines. :-) :-) :-)
I think she's going to be more popular than Pia and Olivia personally. I think it'll be a verrrryyy very long time before we see another queen like her again.
Yeah Catriona was more prepared. Because she already joined Miss Earth I think. But she didn't really win, So she joined Ms. Unniverse and the time she joined Ms. Unniverse her confidence gained. Also Pia helped her a little bit.
Also, you may or may not be aware but Philippines' gown was inspired by the lava from Mayon Volcano in the Phillipines in the area she was from, which is why it was red with black, yellow, and orange mixed in plus then sparkles which makes it look like fire/lava. Interestingly enough, the Filipino fans named her walk the "Lava Walk". Catriona and her team thought of EVERYTHING and planned things to a t! Love you and your channel Dani!!!❤
@@DaniWalker her earcuff is named three stars and a sun. Which is from the Philippine flag symbolizes, the 3 archipelago and the 8 rays of the sun symbolizes the 8 provinces who joined the revolution from thr past.
@Misericordia, the earcuff she wore at Miss Universe is actually named “Alab at Dangal,” the one she wore at Bb. Pilipinas was named “Three Stars and a Sun”
I guess one of the reasons why MUO wants to make the selection per continent is because they want to urge EUROPEAN countries to get hooked to MU thus creating bigger market in EUROPE REGION. Segregation also promotes Competitiveness and this will allow more EU countries to send more competent candidates in the future.
How could we imagine that miss universe catriona gray is a taekwando/karate black belter with multi talent like song writter, singer, and can do basic drawings ang paintings too !
In the 60s, 70s, and 80s MU had 9 judges. 3 from the U.S., 3 from Europe, 2 from Asia, and 1 from South America. Also, USA was always in Feb. and Universe in May.
the evening gown ... colored red was because her mother dreamed of her winning a pageant wearing a red dress when miss philippines was still on her teens... the designer then top up the concept based on the volcanic lava of "mayon volcano"... a landmark of her mother's region in the philippines
she is our most patrioric candidate... incorporating the philippines on her vision, dress and accessories... i think this is the best way in defining the phrase "representing a country"
Preparing for miss Philippines alone is in itself a huge hurdle to overcome --it’s not a joke-it’s serious business like the super bowl -They are like Venezuela. Extremely picky and you don’t just get in for simply being pretty. They prepared Cats journey with stealth surgical precision. Miss Philippines had the basic goods and They utilized her abilities and strengths and highlighted it even more that’s why she was so successful
Oh yes, I've seen some of the events leading up to the national pageant. I really wish that USA had opportunities like that for contestants. Girls in the Philippines have multiple events and shoots in the months leading up to the pageant. We didn't have anything like that at USA :(
@@DaniWalker Well Dani at our country in the Philippines. All of our city will pick one girl to present there city. And whoever will win from the pageant will be the one who's gonna present our country Philippines in Ms. Universe.
You have the most informative and very insider breakdown of all i have watch. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and knowledge of the competition
@@DaniWalker :/ Before Iris the last European MU was in 1989. Showing Europe that their girls have a real fighting chance will encourage the countries to pay attention and put money in. It will also make the next comps more exciting. They can always just drop it later when the playing field is much more level. It can be said that Europe should simply send better candidates instead of being held by the hand like this, but I am not sure MU can afford it. Well, just my beginner's take.
Actually Europe had a back to back victory in 1989 and 1990 and then 2002 with Russia who got dethroned. Noted that when Iris won, she was the only European in the semifinals.
loyalfan99 That’s not how competition should be. Participatory awards are guaranteed, which, in the long run, is counter intuitive. Why would they step up the game when they just need to fight with fewer countries to easily get to top 20?
wait you think no one's answer stood out from the top 3 questions? I don't know if you watch the same show that i did but I am pretty sure Philippines was the only that answered the question completely. It is consistent to what her platform is and it is from her heart. South Africa was shook for a couple of seconds after Steve asked her the question. That's where she messed up. Maybe you should rewatch the Top 3 questions again. Philippines gave the clearest answer, the other two was clear and basic as mud. Lol. Smh.
Dani gave an honest recap of her opinion. Not everyone is going to feel the same way you do. I personally felt she gave a show stopper answer, but to their own opinions.
I agree. Catriona gave a great answer but to some people they may have thought she gave a good answer but not a "mic drop moment" like Pia. We can't call people out for not always praising our delegate.
Phillip Yes, I agree to each his/her own when it comes to opinion. I have no problem about that. All I'm saying is that, I will not put Catriona's answer in the same level as the other two. To say that no answer at the top 3 stood out just sounds like it negates the quality of Catriona's answer. She was way polished compared to the others. But hey, just my opinion too. Not hating on anyone.
She had a great answer but we didn't think it was like that clever Pia moment when she said, "the world...the Universe rather." It's not that she didn't do a complete or good job of answering.
She had a great answer. Best out of the top 3 in my opinion. Certainly sealed the deal, but that's exactly it. It wasn't that super satisfying Pia moment.
Honestly this year's Top 10 was the strongest/best I've ever seen since I started watching Miss Universe in 2011 and I could see any of them winning the crown and it would of been well deserved. Miss Spain moment was breathtaking and meant so much to me. And of course Catrona, there's not enough words to describe how great she is. I agree with you guys in terms of the length of the show but over all it was really fun.
In ms world 2016 she was brave enough to carry her torch high, high enough that everyone (the world maybe) sees it's light,2018 she finally found and walked with (the) silver lining... Philippines (catriona) is destined to become the Queen of the Universe!... Congratulations, well deserved!!!...
Totally agree!! That top 5 questions should be about issues pertinent to each girl's country!! Looking forward to seeing you Dani at Ms.U & at Ms. Earth!! We'll mention your name in their sites & pageant sites & blogs!!
*Seriously! Both you beautiful women should be part of the Miss Universe Pageant as official hosts or commentators. You both gave thoughtful and spot on observations. WELL DONE!*
Let me up this video by saying that these queens are so accurate in their recaps and Dani is so engaging with her subscribers that I believe you're a big part of why this show keeps getting better and better.
U r the best reviewer ever Dani and the other girl ... U know how to notice all girls especially Venezuela u really talked about what she deserves and is... Everybody else is too winner focused ...... Love u Dani ...u r a breath of freshness..... Keep the work going..... Infinite love from India
I really love how you break things down and elaborate on even simple details, Dani. You're one of the best beauty pageant analysts I've come across on TH-cam-verse.
1) Judges: The same judges were used in both prelims and finals. How do you feel about that? Personally I loved that two former Miss Universe Winners were judges 2) I agree the pageant was too long, but I loved the Top 20 question, to be honest I would love for MUO to bring back onstage interview 3) Top 20/Wildcard: I had a problem with the groupings. Africa & Asia Pacific was large enough to have their own groupings but I also feel the Americas are too big 4) Top 10: One of the strongest ever IMO, some of the girls who did not make Top 5 like Canada and Curaçao could have any other year been Miss Universe Other thoughts: Loved Miss Canada’s dress.....Curaçao just I loved her.....surprised Vietnam did not make Top 3......Philippines great choice and the pose she made at Top 3 Look (Flawless)
I don't mind the same judges because they got to know the girls in interview. I think an on-stage interview would be fun! Yes, I think they deserve their own too! Great point!! I was obsessed with Curacao. She looked like she would have made a top 5, but there were just so many great girls this year. I wish we'd seen her in a new gown for finals. I loved Canada's dress too. LOOOOOVE the overskirt. I loved her and thought so too but after questions were answered I thought that the top 3 did deserve their spot.
Dani Walker You are so Right this year had a lot of great girls!! If you are going to have a three hour pageant then please bring back full on stage interview. Allow the audience to get to know the women, their journey, and platform. PS: Part of the reason why I loved both Vietnam & Curaçao besides being strong women, is at Miss Universe I personally love rooting for women who represent countries that have yet to win. I just think of how great for that country it would be to have a winner
I would love the continental elimination if they would have a set of judges for each continents, Like : Africa & Asia Pacific : Africa & Asian Judges, Europe : European Judges, America’s, North & South American Judges.
Just an fyi. The majiuana question for Catriona Gray is relevant to the Philippines due to the government's current war on drugs. So it was kinda tricky for her. But she answered the best way possible so it was good.
In her interview her team said that the red gown weight is 10 kilos and worth 1 million pesos. Imagine she manage to walk with that weight and gave the best answers, complete and detailed.
There were two parts of the final question is What and How. I think only miss Philippines answered both question perfectly. And that sealed the crown for her. But I do agree it was not like a Pia moment answer!
I, too, thought that Europe would get eliminated after top 20. I dont like the regional things. If they really wanted to do something similar to it, perhaps they can have the highest placing delegate from each region: 1 from Asia Pacific, 1 from Africa, 1 from the Americas, 1 from Europe, then the highest 16 scores to determine the top 20. I too liked the opening statement, although I think I would prefer and interview type scenario similar to what they did until 2000. I also liked that the top 10 competed in BOTH swimsuit and gown. So I wasnt the only one who thought the top five questions that were "written by their fellow contestants" were too US-centric. Also, the final question was almost similar to 2016 except for the wording.
I'd love to see an on-stage interview like you mentioned. It's always fun to learn more about the girls. I like that we got to see swim and gown too! I thought the questions sounded a bit recycled too. How many times can we hear the marijuana question?
If you noticed Miss Philippines' earrings (which she also designed) it also has meaning in which it is the sun in the Philippine flag 😁 So the team really thought literally EVERY little detail including the slo-mo/lava walk (she was taught to do). By the way, [I think] all of her gowns were made by the same Filipino guy named Mak Tumang if you're interested about it 😀 Thank you for your review ♥️
Totally agree with your recap! The fact that Poland and Hungary made it over India and Ecuador was disheartening PS text miss Wisconsin to start her own channel!! 🙏🏾😀
Dani, so great to hear y'all commentary. #veryknowlegable. Yet, I get Ms. Venezuela pulling all the stop on coronation night, but I can't see how she was ahead of Puerto Rico and Viatnam. Viatnam was right on.
I love love this recap.... You two would have been great hosting this year's miss universe...next time. And i also don't like the idea of separating the continents, that's limiting. Thanks for the blog though.
bear with me and i hope i make sense. so what I THINK (not confirmed) is that they have the top 5 from every continent, then the next 5 highest scoring countries, then shuffle them in and randomly pick out 5 out of the total girls from that continental group for the actual group. SO for example. with Asia, it'll be Philippines, South Africa, Nepal, Vietnam, Indonesia, Australia, and Thailand, then they randomly choose 5 girls from there for the continental announcement regardless of place, and then the other two go to wildcard. the reason i support this is 1) Venezuela in wildcard, and 2) Philippines was wildcard last year. there was no doubt they were going to make the top, i think they held Rachel back from continental announcement for suspense. same for Usa Indonesia Venezuela this year. i actually thought they'd keep cat back and announce her in wildcard instead for suspense's sake again, but i feel like everyone knew for sure for sure that she was going to get called and it wouldn't be that suspenseful so they just called her in Asia. hope this makes a little sense LOL love both of you as always!
@@DaniWalker oh i see, thank you for your insights, to be honest dani, im not expecting South Africa to be in the Top 5 cus shes struggled on her gown :)
Yeah it was a bit of a struggle in that gown style but when a girl is great overall and she's already made it that far, often times judges will overlook something like a really difficult gown to walk in, but you have to be pretty flawless besides that gown.
Watch Catriona Gray’s interview in the Philippine television talk show The Bottomline by Boy Abunda. This show is an affirmation that Catriona is a force to reckon with as far as Q & A is concerned.
Regina, you weren't being a mean girl (lol!), you were right! For Europe to get 5 slots is beyond injustice! They should just scrap this continents format because it's unfair to all the girls. Let them compete and be chosen based on merit and not based on where they came from! And if MUO really does insist on the continents format, then Europe should be grouped with Africa, Asia and Oceania and then the Americas.
THANK YOU DANI & THANK YOU REGINA!! Dani, you know I love you, Regina I am your newest fan. Great video and THANK YOU for your thoughts on this ridiculous way of calling out the top 20. And yes folks, Regina is correct: the European girls would have NOT made it. There were a number of girls from other countries and other continents who missed out because they unfortunately were born in the wrong place of the globe. So unfair. I don't see how anyone could be pro this way of choosing the top 20. I say choose the BEST 20 and leave it at that. Thanks so much girls!!!
Dani Walker, honey-baby-sweetie, as promised, I watched it. Not just once but maybe thrice! Here’s where I weigh in now on your recap. Disclaimer: since I watched Miss Universe with my mom and my sister in law, I’m practically limited with my “opinions.” Hahahaha! - Opening: So awesome! It’s televised. But I feel that next time, those things could be a way to get the audience all hyped up before showtime. - Steve Harvey: witty as always. Regarding the jacket, my sister in law was asking if Steve is trying to show how rich he is with the customized jacket filled with rhinestones. - Top 20: The whole idea of how it was partitioned is uneasy at first. Of course, personally, on how I wrote my predictions was partly based on your recap and who I think should and would be there. I was surprised on how Kenya, Malta, Colombia, and Kyrgyzstan wasn’t in the Top 20 as well. To be honest, out of my Top 20 picks, 14 got in. My picks for Europe threw me off since only two of my picks got in there. The wildcard was quite a surprise on how it happened since I thought that both USA and Venezuela would be with the five from the Americas. I had a lot of laughs when Steve was interviewing Costa Rica and USA, they were so funny! - Opening Remarks: I was a bit skeptical on what could be the turnout, but it became impressive. I was impressed since those ladies who might need interpreters spoke in English so eloquently from their hearts! It wasn’t seem to be so rehearsed at all. Of course at least they were given time to compose in their minds what they wanted to say. - Top 10: I personally did not expect it! Out only predicted half of those who got in plus my three of my “four safety net” picks. - Top 5: Out of my five picks, only three got in! I think Venezuela got a little bit complacent in some areas. - Swimsuit: I agree with y’all! Sexy just got brought back! I like how the cape played out! - Evening gown: stunning! I like some of the second gowns for finals! But c’mon, my dear, where’s the commentary about fringes that I was expecting to hear, huh? - Top 3: predicted two out of three, since I was dead set on believing that Vietnam will get in. - Top 5 Q & A: I agree that it must be a fair game with regards to that. I like how they were written by their fellow contestants. I saw how that method played out in both state and national pageants. I agree with what y’all said that during Pia’s time, it was country specific. But considering that all five of them came from places that have had western influences, the questions might be considered semi fair. The subject of legalization of marijuana has become a global issue since the contact between the East and West have become constant and more research is being released. The issue of the MeToo movement has their own version in every countries since in some cultures, sexual assault/abuse has a name it’s known for: A Cultural Taboo! No technicalities, if you did something wrong, it’s wrong! Simple explanations, no complications! My biggest issue is how interpreters tends to be mistranslating and not miss out some of things said by the contestants. - Top 3 Final World: it really dug through each of the ladies’ heart. But of course, Philippines answered it well! - Winners: before the Final Word, I tend to have a hunch on how it may turn out! Wait for a separate comment For Catriona filled things I discovered!
hahaha the commentary about fringe! I thought Vietnam for top 3 as well but after watching top 5 I think it was fair. I'll say the translation was hard to hear at the pageant. We didnt' hear the end of most girls answers because the audience would cheer and drown out the girl. Looking forward to your Catriona filled comment :)
Loved the video and honesty but the where is india, from first amazing insuring story because of her I'm too losing weight please make it again like best from asia and would give a very strong performance to many countries and definately top 5 and also she wore a 20kg national costume
I agree that the T5 question should be in a way country related. And the by-continent T20 kindá growing in me. At the beginning you would think that you're not competing with 93 girls from the get go, but with your neighboring contestants.
She did very well. There just wasn't that Pia mic drop moment. I watched it. The content I'm referring to is when a contestant understands her personal brand, and what that will be marketing as a titleholder. When she ties in something personal that lets us really get to know who she is on a personal level. You'll see that with answers from Deshauna, Kara, Sarah and many others during their on-stage question. They reference part of their personal identity and connect that to their role as a titleholder. For example, anyone can say they're a positive person, but, what in one's personal journey specifically caused them to become one? Sort of like when Deshauna talked about "serving in the military has taught me that being confidently beautiful..." The beauty of that short phrase was that it made her brand completely unique. There was no other girl at that pageant who was an active military member with her life story. That added to her overall answer because it made her completely unique and self-aware of her brand as Miss USA. That real personal and completely unique answer is what we were waiting for from each contestant. Not to say the answers weren't great. We just wanted that cherry on top lol.
@@DaniWalker Hello?!! Catriona incorporated her own marketing brand in her answer. "I worked in the slums of Tondo, Manila..... " She built a school for them. She already did PROVIDE them something. Are you even listening in the prelims?? Her prime advocacy is education to children. THAT'S CONTENT. It was also part of her opening speech. She is also an advocate for HIV/AIDS .
@@Demigod2NE3 Anyone can be a volunteer. I have a lot of clients who mention volunteering to judges, which is great but most contestants volunteer. Mentioning that you volunteer does not make you different from anyone else in the competition and it doesn't shed like on a unique personal quality/brand. Like how I'd mentioned Deshauna's personal brand with the military. If she'd said something like, "While building a school in the slums of Tondo, Manila I learned...which is why as Miss Universe I intend to be a global advocate for children's education, working with (Fill in the blank with a children's foundation) because providing an education is one of the best ways to combat poverty and give all children a fair chance at the hope and future they deserve. " Those types of specifics would have knocked it out of the park for me. Like I said, she still did a fantastic job, I'd have picked her too. That's just my opinion and what I look for when I judge.
@@DaniWalker : that is good in hindsight...everyone has their own style of answering...you try saying that in fourty-five seconds' time, see if you can formulate your answer like that...
No content? weird to hear that, Philippines' answer on the top 3 Q&A has so much content in it, there's more to it than your typical beauty pageant answer like Pia's (well in the Filipino standard). Even Steve Harvey's reaction was priceless.
Catriona’s final gown was inspired by a very active volcano lava in the Philippines. It wasn’t for Thailand. And her ear cuff is inspired by the Filipino sun (found in flag) Her preliminary dress was inspired by a Filipino mythology bird called “ibong adarna”
The European continent was just a bonus since the semi-finals round was upped to 20 from the usual 15. So whether they make it to Top 10 or not, it was a win-win situation. Europe has to be at least be recognized or be visible at least with that expanded number of semi-finalist. At least some of them went home happy and for the other European candidates who didn't make it, they didin;t feel left out. That's how I view the situation of having 20 instead of 15. I am surprised why people didn;t realized that!
Also girls she's the first candidate sent by Binibining Pilipinas as an independent candidate. Meaning she didn't train under Aces and Queens. She created her own support group who trained her how to improve her walk, how to represent herself, trained her in Q and A, collaborated with her in designing her gowns and clothes down to her jewelries. Even her videos. That's why she's a huge news here in PH since when she won Bb Pilipinas Universe she's getting backlash and bad comments. She shocked everyone how much improvement she made during the competition.
Nice review! Specially, discouraging the continental quota shit! I'm just seeing it now. Well, the way few people targeting Carson n Lu is absolutely stupid. They have also full right to say what they felt. Everyone knows inside top 5 best answers were from Puerto Rico, South Africa n Venezuela. That's what they predicted. It's even mentioned in some pageant reviews online that winner's answer in top 5 was not as strong. And, you didn't mention about repeating the same prelims judging panel for finale too..! Is that fair?
How did you feel about Spain getting her moment?? It was so sweet omgg!! I also love the new format and hope it continues!! It instantly shows who has the wit and charm and BRAINS! Also I can't BELIEVE THAT YOU WOULD SAY THAT ABOUT EUROUPE DANI!!!!! SO UNFAIR!! Don't you remember that one contestant in 1982....?? 😉😂 Lol! Had too! shot out to Miss Wisconsin ! Born and raised in Green Bay here 😁 THANKS FOR THE REVIEW LADIES!!
I think they executed the Spain highlight better than they did with Afghanistan last year. Remember her segment? It was before they announced top 20 which I think could influence judges. I'm just not a fan of giving any contestant more attention than the other, in all fairness. All of them won their national pageant and may have unique or inspiring stories. If you feature one, find a way to highlight all, or do something that gives more contestants an opportunity to be featured. Could be the result of a fan vote, or some other bonus competition. Oh yes, how could I forget her? hahahahaha (Someone gets specific on me on every video lol)
Suggestion for these two awesome girls.. Can you just replace Carson and Lu next year.. we don't want those two co-anchoring Ashley.. they are obviously racist.. They didn't like Catriona and our Filipino candidates ever since , never mentioned Philippines in their comments during the pageant and yet after Catriona, won they had their pic taken with her?? what a show-off! Filipinos do not like them!
I don't think they didn't like Cat. It's just that they knew she was the winner. Remember when someone interviewed Lu and asked who her favorite was she said, can't tell. That means she is one of the bts people that knows who MU is looking for.
Hey so I believe since IMG partnered with MUO there has been a strong emphasis on Diversity and Inclusion and if they are promoting that, then the semifinalist must reflect that. Ultimately this makes it even more competitive for the Asia/Africa group and the Americas group, but overall I find it quite refreshing to see semifinalist from all over the continent. I was dissapointed though that only 1 African country made it and we didnt have a woman in the African/Asia group that was "truly African". With the Wildcard, my guess is and I could be wrong, there are certain ladies who impressed the judges so much in prelim interview that they're like, I don't care how they do in prelim swim and gown, these women will make it as semi finalist. Finally, Loved Loved Loved that it was a top 20 and that they got to speak; however, I feel the judges had their top 10 already locked in and the only way to lose that spot would be having just a disastrous opening statement. I think Jamaica lost her top 10 spot due to her little onstage incident. But she was so adorable and she recovered well. I felt it was a good show, but you're right, it shouldn't take an hour to get through the top 20....I would have preferred top 20 competed in swim and 15 second statement then cut to top 10 for gown....the more time we have with the ladies, the better for me.
Oh my gosh, we literally said the same thing!!! That seemed strange to us. Okay then maybe it's the opposite of what we thought? That the girls who judges loved make it no matter what, into the wild card group. Yes agreed, I'd like to see more of the girls.
@@DaniWalker Additionally I also thought there was no substance in the answer to the questions. Especially the final question. While I believe Catriona was deserving of the crown, I felt here we go again. A "privileged" person benefiting off the backs of the less fortunate. While you talk about what you "taught" yourself in the slums of your country, you're on stage looking amazing in an expensive gown after been wearing amazing outfits the past 3 weeks leading up to the pageant. I felt uncomfortable....I felt if South Africa was going to win on the final question she should have talked about her experience overcoming TB and how that led to her current situation inspiring and helping others. But she gave such a general answer...She pretty much hand delivered the crown to Cat. It was as if she gave up at that point. Granted I believe the judges took the entire performance into consideration but end with a drop the Mic Moment like Jamaica did last year.
I think that some of the girls, when they were announced as semifinalists and being interviewed by Steve Harvey, wasted an opportunity to impressed the judges. Costa Rica for instance gave the most memorable interview and no doubt she remained in the judges’ mind during the top 20 statement.
When Catriona appeared on stage in her red gown i know it was over.
She stood out when they announced top 5. Everyone wore nude/sheer and she popped in red.
ako, The moment she arrived at Thailand airport... I knew that the competition is over and that she walked like she had a crown n her head.

She did the same thing at her national competition too. "If it ain't broke"
@@DaniWalker agreed. She's so intelligent and very down to earth. You can see the sincerity in her answer, really came from the heart.
Yeah Catriona was more prepared. Because she already joined Miss Earth I think. But she didn't really win, So she joined Ms. Unniverse and the time she joined Ms. Unniverse her confidence gained. Also Pia helped her a little bit.
@@amityblythe5066 Actually Catriona did not join miss earth but she join miss world where she should have won
Catrion did not win Miss World
Miss philippines is so great she deserved the crown. Thank you for the review for miss universe. Keep it coming every year please
michael florendo very deserved! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I did hear that after we filmed this. I love the concept and it certainly looked like Lava. Loved it.
When I saw it, I said "Wow, her dress is *fire*." Didn't mean it literally!
You two need to replace Lu and Carson completely and host together with Ashley!!!!
That'd be a great time!
This tbh😂👌
you two are gorgeous as well as full of quality noodles in your head ...a Miss Universe material?
Lu and Carson is not good in predicting. 😂
Jenni Lopez I concur 💥💥💥👏🏻😂💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
I think this is the most accurate and honest recap from this year.
Thank you so much!!
I did hear her sing at Miss World. I didn't know about the Tae Kwan Do though!
I agree with you regarding the "continental" thing. It produces a lot of wasted beauties.
I feel bad for the girls who would have placed if the continent thing didn't exist.
@@DaniWalker Yep. me too.
Fabulous recap! Loved your opinions! I would definitely love to see more judges from outside America!
Thank you!! :D Same here!
I heard that!! That was so sweet and special.
she is our most patrioric candidate... incorporating the philippines on her vision, dress and accessories... i think this is the best way in defining the phrase "representing a country"
U guys are so right about chosing the judges .....judges need to be from different cultures..
Thanks for your input!
You got me with "I want your job." cracked me up! But so true. It would be an amazing gig
Universe.
ALSO, I was so touched and impressed with Vietnam doing her opening statement in English. She is so inspiring.
I was super touched by it too. She seemed so sweet
I and the rest of my fellow Filipinos loved Miss Vietnam.
You have the most informative and very insider breakdown of all i have watch. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and knowledge of the competition
Thank you!!!
Giving Europe guaranteed slots in the top 20 gives them incentive to up their game, I think. Otherwise, they might lose Europe for good.
But France recently won. I think they'd still send girls regardless of placement.
2020 and im still watching this
Yayy, I hope you enjoyed it.
i love this video, you two are very smart and spontaneous. New subscriber here!
this is one of my favorite MU2018 reaction/recap video... love your commentaries Miss USA & Miss Wisconsin ♥🙌😊
You're so sweet. Thank you so much!!! I hope we can do another one in the future :D
Ahhhhhhhhh!!!! Its too shooooort!! I want more... you two are far one of the best review out there... i want mooore!!!! ❤❤❤
Aww thank you!!! It was long but most people usually don't want to sit through an episode that long.
@@DaniWalker hahaha so true! But good job... you got a new subscriber 🤗😉❤
This is the best review I've ever seen. Detailed and very objective. Thank you.
foreverstyle26 thank you so much!! ❤️☺️
I love this recap.. i'm soaking in the info and step by step understanding pagentry..
Thank you so much!! :)
Miguel Chalas Agreed!! What an incredible group. They’re incredible ❤️❤️❤️
Ok, you two need to do recaps to all international pageants.
I need to watch all of them first lol
@@DaniWalker I can't wait to see your review. I also love your tips for future beauty queens.
Totally agree!! That top 5 questions should be about issues pertinent to each girl's country!! Looking forward to seeing you Dani at Ms.U & at Ms. Earth!! We'll mention your name in their sites & pageant sites & blogs!!
Thank you Geri, that's so kind of you.
*Seriously! Both you beautiful women should be part of the Miss Universe Pageant as official hosts or commentators. You both gave thoughtful and spot on observations. WELL DONE!*
Thank you so much! We greatly appreciate your compliment!
BEST RECAP.. YOU GIRLS ARE THE BEST
Thank you so much!!!
Let me up this video by saying that these queens are so accurate in their recaps and Dani is so engaging with her subscribers that I believe you're a big part of why this show keeps getting better and better.
Thanks so much Ed! So happy you've been enjoying them. Thanks for checking out this throwback recap :)
U r the best reviewer ever Dani and the other girl ... U know how to notice all girls especially Venezuela u really talked about what she deserves and is... Everybody else is too winner focused ...... Love u Dani ...u r a breath of freshness..... Keep the work going..... Infinite love from India
Aww thank you so much!!! Btw you have an amazing rep this year. She should place.
I love how you guys analyze Miss Universe. I totally agree with the continents group. It shouldn’t be in that way.
Thank you for checking it out :)
I really love how you break things down and elaborate on even simple details, Dani. You're one of the best beauty pageant analysts I've come across on TH-cam-verse.
1) Judges: The same judges were used in both prelims and finals. How do you feel about that? Personally I loved that two former Miss Universe Winners were judges
2) I agree the pageant was too long, but I loved the Top 20 question, to be honest I would love for MUO to bring back onstage interview
3) Top 20/Wildcard: I had a problem with the groupings. Africa & Asia Pacific was large enough to have their own groupings but I also feel the Americas are too big
4) Top 10: One of the strongest ever IMO, some of the girls who did not make Top 5 like Canada and Curaçao could have any other year been Miss Universe
Other thoughts: Loved Miss Canada’s dress.....Curaçao just I loved her.....surprised Vietnam did not make Top 3......Philippines great choice and the pose she made at Top 3 Look (Flawless)
Miss Canada's gown was the same gown she used in the prelim, she just accesorised it with a palecpec made by filipino designer
2024, still watching this. the most on point comments and I love both of you, especially, you Dani. Filipinos love you. 😘😘😘
Thank you!!
I've just heard a similar question at the last three pageants I've attended, so I'd love to hear some fresh topics.
you're both are very beautiful and smart. Miss Universe caliber.
You're very kind. Thank you so much. I agree ; )
I love your recap and the "inside" perspective you guys brought to this video. Very enlightening. 👍💕
Thanks for checking it out!! :)
I really love your recap because you speak out the same I thought
I anticipate analysis from both of them in future pageants. Very insightful information here!
Thanks so much!
100% I think she had the strongest answer for both rounds.
If you noticed Miss Philippines' earrings (which she also designed) it also has meaning in which it is the sun in the Philippine flag 😁
So the team really thought literally EVERY little detail including the slo-mo/lava walk (she was taught to do). By the way, [I think] all of her gowns were made by the same Filipino guy named Mak Tumang if you're interested about it 😀
Thank you for your review ♥️
I follow him on instagram. I love his gowns!! I remember hearing about the ear cuff when she won Miss Philippines.
Totally agree with your recap! The fact that Poland and Hungary made it over India and Ecuador was disheartening
PS text miss Wisconsin to start her own channel!! 🙏🏾😀
N E hahaha I’m trying to get all my sisters on TH-cam!! Wait till the vlog comes out 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 we have other trips planned soon!
Dani Walker haha yay! Can’t wait 😸
N E Ecuador was beautiful but had very negative reviews behind the scene. Rude , impatient and did I say rude tot he staff.
P Auluknow how do you know this? I want to read about this to understand more
Awesome recap Dani, you both would make much better commentators than Carson and Lu.
FYI: the red gown of Catriona represent sa lava flow of Mt Mayon from her hometown, which is dubbed as a perfect cone mountain in the Philippines..
Jamaica talked about being relatable. I thought that when she forgot what she was going to say, she was still cute.
I think she could have used that flub to her advantage, if she'd addressed it directly.
Dani, so great to hear y'all commentary. #veryknowlegable. Yet, I get Ms. Venezuela pulling all the stop on coronation night, but I can't see how she was ahead of Puerto Rico and Viatnam. Viatnam was right on.
I think the top 5 question helped her advance.
I'm so happy you guys talked about the bias toward western views and how they broke up the continents/globe. Was kind of dumb how they did that.
Thanks for taking time to watch
This is the best review ive seen :)
Thank you Hannah, we appreciate that!
I love love this recap.... You two would have been great hosting this year's miss universe...next time. And i also don't like the idea of separating the continents, that's limiting. Thanks for the blog though.
Thank you so much! I'd jump at that opportunity
I agree, you girls should do the color commentary.
❤ Philippines.
Thank you
bear with me and i hope i make sense. so what I THINK (not confirmed) is that they have the top 5 from every continent, then the next 5 highest scoring countries, then shuffle them in and randomly pick out 5 out of the total girls from that continental group for the actual group.
We thought that they were announcing certain countries for suspense too!!
why do you think Miss Universe Canada did not make the cut?
I think that the competition was really tight and that anyone in the top 10 could have been in the top 5.
Selection is based on how they answered and behave
Yes, everyone should earn their spot because of performance, not based on their country.
Great review! You could be a nice duo as side commentators! Calling MUO... 😊☺️
Thank you! lol please do!
They should of done continental groupings like this:
1. Asia/Lands Down Under
2. Europe
3. Americas
Mediterranean
THANK YOU DANI & THANK YOU REGINA!! Dani, you know I love you, Regina I am your newest fan. Great video and THANK YOU for your thoughts on this ridiculous way of calling out the top 20. And yes folks, Regina is correct: the European girls would have NOT made it. There were a number of girls from other countries and other continents who missed out because they unfortunately were born in the wrong place of the globe. So unfair. I don't see how anyone could be pro this way of choosing the top 20. I say choose the BEST 20 and leave it at that. Thanks so much girls!!!
Christian Raul Arroyo thank you so much Christian!! I appreciate you stopping by to watch and comment. I hope you enjoy upcoming recaps too 😊
Dani Walker, honey-baby-sweetie, as promised, I watched it.
Yes i totally agree with your recap
Thanks so much for watching!
Regina Gray was right, Nobody had a Pia moment when it came to the Q & A be it top 5 or top 3.
Hey Dani, what were your thoughts on Miss Spain?
I was surprised that she didn't make top 20 for the sake of her story.
smart recap!
Thank you! :D
are you guys actually in Thailand during the filming of this video? Did you guys actually watched Miss Universe live at the Impact theater
Yes, we filmed in Thailand and watched the show :)
Catriona Gray is the 8th Miss Universe in history to compete in a red gown. The last one was Olivia Culpo in 2012.
Loved the video and honesty but the where is india, from first amazing insuring story because of her I'm too losing weight please make it again like best from asia and would give a very strong performance to many countries and definately top 5 and also she wore a 20kg national costume
you guys should be in the nxt ms u 2019 as a host..replce the two old vias host...

I love your videos
I agree that the T5 question should be in a way country related. And the by-continent T20 kindá growing in me. At the beginning you would think that you're not competing with 93 girls from the get go, but with your neighboring contestants.
Please replay CATRIONA’s answer during the top 3 and tell me if the content is not good enough...
FYI... We are talking about CONTENT here, not a mic drop moment?... that’s what sticks the most on your last part of of your convo.
@@DaniWalker : that is good in hindsight...everyone has their own style of answering...you try saying that in fourty-five seconds' time, see if you can formulate your answer like that...
Well idk why there's no AWARDING MOMENTS for MS. CONGENIALITY and MS. PHOTOGENIC. 😔
Akhira Shihiro I don’t think we had it at USA either. They announced on social media after the show.
No content? weird to hear that, Philippines' answer on the top 3 Q&A has so much content in it, there's more to it than your typical beauty pageant answer like Pia's (well in the Filipino standard). Even Steve Harvey's reaction was priceless.
Love you girls!!!! You know what you're talking about and are so dynamic!!! 😍🤗😍🤗😍🤗
For a second I read that as "dramatic" which I'd also accept as a compliment lol
No content for CATRIONA? Really? In what manner? You might need to rewatch the show....
This is fun.. i love their personality...
So glad you enjoyed it John. We had fun filming :)
Wildcards are CLOSED DOOR decisions...due to business, social media, etc.
I can see how that'd be a thing. Is there anyway you can confirm that?
Catriona’s final gown was inspired by a very active volcano lava in the Philippines. It wasn’t for Thailand. And her ear cuff is inspired by the Filipino sun (found in flag)
Her preliminary dress was inspired by a Filipino mythology bird called “ibong adarna”
Yes please! Take Lu’s place there! 😂
You’d do so much better than her for sure.

It shouldve been 3 from each continent and 11 wild cards.
I'd be more for that than doing 5 from each continent.
Lol! Had too!
shot out to Miss Wisconsin ! Born and raised in Green Bay here 😁 THANKS FOR THE REVIEW LADIES!!
I loved Spain's moment too!!!!
He's a guy. I don't like to see them all guys in miss universe in future
It was so amazing to see Miss Spain have her moment! I love that MUO acknowledged her historic involvement. Can’t wait to see the future of MUO
Oh yes, how could I forget her? hahahahaha (Someone gets specific on me on every video lol)

be Glad that Miss USA make it to the top 20 after what she did to Miss Vietnam.... well she deserved what she got...
I didn't even know that. I need to go watch the telecast show. When you're in the audience you can't hear any commentary.
Truly. Was so frustrated while watching the show. Not even one comment about anything Catriona did and wore.
If Ashley too didn't have Philippines in her top 3, you would have wanted her too to get replaced!
I don't think they didn't like Cat. It's just that they knew she was the winner. Remember when someone interviewed Lu and asked who her favorite was she said, can't tell. That means she is one of the bts people that knows who MU is looking for.
Omg these two ladies should be the next backstage hosts in Miss Universe ❤️
Thanks! :)
This recap was rushed! I was hoping for a more in depth discussion of the candidates.
It was originally 30 mins lol. I didn't think people would watch the much.
I wouldn’t mind a 30-minute long video as long as the content is worth the time. Hehe :)
Dani Walker maybe you could re-upload the original 30-minute video edit? :)
@@DaniWalker me too I would totally watch you for 30 minutes because your reviews were always substantial critiques!

Thank you!! Maybe one day : D
