I'm a fan of .22cal guns as like yourself I started hunting with .22 rifles at the age of 12 I just turned 63 in July. My two favorite I have owned being the Ruger 1022 Sporter Model and a Remington 572 BDL Pump sadly neither that I still own. I do have a couple Marlin .22 rifles a.semi auto and a bolt action single ahot. I also used .22 air rifles for squirrel hunting and still love target shooting with air rifles extremely economical to shoot and more than enough power for small shot. Enjoyed the video and seeing your collection of .22cal guns.
My late father, a veteran of the 1st Marine Div in WW2 always said, the 22 will be the round that saves this country ! And after him surviving three amphibious landings on Guadicanal, Okinawa and Pellieu I think that some solid advise !
Loved video I’m 48 years old and 22 rifles were just part of my childhood didn’t get to shoot without permission but every one I admired used them for hunting or killing livestock I love them all but but have a Henry and it’s favorite gun I own and I have a lot of guns worth more money
It’s the length of the barrel that makes the short 22 round quieter. CCI makes 22 Quieter rounds now and I think they are just a bit quieter than the short.
when you know to have a shorty AR-15 in 223, with a 22lr conversion unit, scope, trigger job, night sights and silencer, you've got something that's versatile enough to be worth carrying, altho perhaps mostly when taken down and stowed out of sight in a pack for parts of your hike. You'll have 7x the power 4x the effective range, be able to pierce concealed armor., stop men instantly with one torso hit ( to 150m or s) take deer or hogs to the same range with chest hits, or brain elk, moose, bear to 100m, if you have a braced firing position and know what you're doing. With subsonic 60 gr Aquila 22 ammo and the bolt held shut on the 22 unit, such ammo is BB gun quiet thru the 223 silencer. Full power 223's make no more noise with the 'can" mounted than a normal 22lr rifle. the .22 unit, using normal, supersonic 22lr ammo, saves you 30c per shot over 223 prices for snapshooting practice. So it pays for both itself and the silencer in a year or so. You can always sell those items if you dont like them, or God Forbid, need the money.
I like the .22 Long Rifle and .22 WMR. Would I use them to hunt big game? No, but I've used a .22 revolver to coup de grace several. It's not only a good training round, but it can't be beat for small game in terms of cost effectiveness, and out of the right gun, a very accurate round. I was a Trauma RN until 2002, at that time, the .22 LR was responsible for more casualties, Accidental, Intentional, and Suicides, than any other caliber in the US. I would love to find another mid 60s Remington Nylon 66 (mine was destroyed along with several others in a house fire). That was my first gun in 1965. I couldn't even estimate the number of rounds that little gun ran, but its in the 10s of 1,000s. I've replaced it with a 10-22, but being honest, I still prefer that old Nylon 66. You're right, Threat of a butt whipping went along way in enforcing Gun Safety, but more than that, was my Dad taking the time to satisfy a child's curiosity. Thank's Dad.
I have a problem with the CCI 22cal. shorts 720fps? My break barrel 22cal. pellet is about as powerful. The best 22 cal. shorts are 850.fps- 1095fps. Then you got something with some zip!

I have my grandfathers Remington 512 sportsmaster .22L/.22S/.22LR. I love that tube fed bolt gun and like you I wouldn't trade it for love or money!
