    Over the years, I’ve used a few different big name tents… But my benchmark will always be the classic Eureka! Timberline, a tent I sat out a big thunderstorm with high winds once. It kept us dry, but we were treated to the sounds of close lightning strikes and big branches coming down. Funny story…my camping buddy said “it’s not gonna rain…” right about then, a single drop landed on his head, lol…then all hell broke loose. But, the Timberline performed brilliantly in a situation that went from zero to white knuckle pretty fast.

    Unrigorous testing. There is a plastic support rod on the window, Luke didn't use it, its role is to breathe and prevent rainwater from falling on the surface of the window and flowing into the inner tent.

    After watching Lukes's review, I did reseal the entire outside of my tent with Seam Grip including around the vents, my tent like Lukes's tent did NOT have seam tape along the seams about the vents, so I resealed the seams inside and out. I found issues around the vents with h2o leakage however mine was not as bad for some reason. I did send the company a note about the issue as well, and they have not responded to me on the issue either, but like I say I love the tent and the functionality. I did find some transparent tent patch any holes I get in the tent...Since I also purchased the 4-season inner I am going to make sure all the seams on the inner are coated. Luke does an excellent job and I for one really appreciate his time and efforts for all of us.

Not sure why lanshan does this but I went ahead and seam sealed it and have had zero issues. Best tent I own for 3 Season. The company also has the lanshan 2 Pro that either comes without seam sealing and you have to do the entire tent yourself or the company will do it for you at a cost which I find odd. There are some mods available, to add more guylines and make it more secure in high gusty wind conditions. But it came factory seam sealed, so I could seam seal it in those problem areas preemptively😅

    I bought the same tent from another brand: Night Cat. My tent had a small hole two. I taped it, like you. I realized, that the floor was leaking. I solved this with a footprint. I also use a additional fly (50x50 cm) to cover the top. I love this tent. No condensation problems. It is dry now, even in hard rain. What I love most is the space and the black mesh inner tent. While I am lying in my sleeping bag, I have a nice view through the inner mesh into nature. Maybe you can try this out. I bought it fom amazon for arount 90 Euro.

    I proofed mine as soon as I got it, as I do with every tent and it hasn't leaked yet in 2 years. Mind you, it's only Scottish rain, the sideyways windy type, none of your straight down wet Mercan stuff. I didn't trust the vents however, and cut some scotchbrite pads to fit the shape which ensures the rain doesn't get in that way but still has ventilation.

    Its a good test, but in reality most campers will be in the tent and will be able to do damage control. The water in the tent was not so much and with a dry rag it can be soaked up quickly. Most one layer tents would have had a lot more water from condensation. But nevertheless, no excuses, 2f should make sure that seams are sealed or tell their customers to add more sealent themselves.

    To be fair many very expensive super light tents don't have any seams sealed and you have to seal the whole tent yourself. Fabric to mesh is a very difficult area to heat tape seal so in 5 minutes you could easily seal the seam along the vent area, tents a few years back used to come with a small tube of seam sealant for just this reason.

    Hey Luke! Great video! I currently own the Sierra Designs high side 1p tent and was wanting to upgrade to something with a little more room. Needless to say it will not be this tent! I have watched so many of your videos and reviews and can't seem to decide what I want to upgrade to. Any ideas??? Thank you.

    Luke, I love your reviews on tents. I do have a tent or two that I trust. However I have a sleeping bag that had a zipper failure after just four nights. I went back to my old sleeping bag I purchased over ten years ago. Have considered some tests on sleeping bags?

    Hey Luke! Excellent video as always. However, I have a request. Could you see if you can get your hands on, and review the Eberlestock Destroyer V69 backpack? I've been eyeing it down for some time and want to get a reliable opinion and review on it, as most reviews are very amatuerish or not even in English at all. Hopefully you make a video on it before I make an educated choice in buying it. Thanks a ton for the content and knowledge you provide.

    Some people are stating they haven't had any problem with theirs so I wonder if the colour makes a difference. Maybe that grey production line is not doing the sealing properly. Where the others colours get fully seam sealed.

    Just been on 3ful's site. It now says..."As from m October 2023, the leaks in the vents of the Taiji 2 tents have been resolved and we have used a silicon sealant to seal the seams where the leaks may have been occurring."
    Has anyone seen any evidence of this?

    It really seems that tents with large vents on the top don't get seamed as the rest of the fly does. With it not being seamed for all the vent stitching is a huge flaw and oversight for 3FUL.

    I don't know what a hydrostatic head rating is but not counting the seams but could they get that "number" from just the fabric? It seems to me that the fabric is "water-proof" but the seams don't seem to be.

    • @tei1337
      @tei1337 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the rating is for the fabric, but of course seams should also be sealed, either with seam sealer, or taped. If they aren't, the rating of the fabric doesn't really matter, you're getting water inside.

    I have this tent, bought it last year but only used it once and it didn't rain. Now im really worried because i have a trip planned and the forecast is rain.. Could this be a fault with this individual tent? I haven't heard any other TH-camrs saying this tent leaks. How do i know if my vents are seam sealed? I dont know what to look for. Can anyone tell me please? Also, how do you apply seam sealer? Is it easy to do? Expensive?.Are there any brands i should go for? UPDATE 11 JULY 2023, ive been in heavy rain now for a whole day and evening and my tent is fine ❤

      Luke has a video on seam sealing tents, it's well worth a look👍 sil - Tec is the sealant I normally use, but I think it depends on the material of the tent. Good luck hope your trip goes well !

  • @johnsmith-iu1dv
    @johnsmith-iu1dv ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with Luke. I thought at the beginning that he was being a little too critical but considering that this thing has that high rating this tent should be better than perfect. Otherwise the other comments where they're saying yes you can seem seal you're right it's not hard. but again that rating trashed it for me. This is why you have to be careful with these rating systems because with a little money you can get your thing rated higher than it really is. And this is something we have to be careful of in a capitalistic system, we have to make sure these rating systems are 100% impartial. we can't be like other countries like China that basically bribe everyone lie to everyone trick everyone scam everyone to get a rating that we don't deserve. It's called strength and integrity

    • @uffa00001
      @uffa00001 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rating used is the one of the fabric. I don't think that the tents are rated. The fabric producer will sell to the tentmaker the fabric, stating its rating. The problem here is not the fabric manufacture or its sincerity regarding the water column, but the tent manufacture. He states all seams are taped, and they are not even properly sealed with silicon.

  • @shawnr6117
    @shawnr6117 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Maybe you just got a bad one that slipped through quality control, it happens sometimes. Be interesting to see if the company responds to the video.

    • @Im_With_Stupid
      @Im_With_Stupid ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's the problem with Chinese brands. They make good stuff when they want to, but their quality control often sucks.

  • @uffa00001
    @uffa00001 ปีที่แล้ว

    The problem can be spotted even before the rain. The web site says: "All seams has been taped". I see no tape there. It seems to me that this tent was seam sealed with silicon, and not taped. The seam-sealing with silicon is a boring process that requires care and that users should rather do themselves. This is not the first time that I see people buying the sealing service and complaining that it was not up to par. In this particular case the problem is worse, because by specification the tent should have been taped, which is a much better way to seal the seams for what I know. The inner is PU coated, so that would naturally allow taping the seams. Some manufacturers rely on the nylon to "close itself around the hole" to make the tent quasi-waterproof (also high quality producers such as VauDe if memory serves), but only taping, or sealing, will guarantee waterproofness.

    I would have expected at least one of the clip points would have started leaking, since it has a lot of it, due to the exoskeleton design.

  • @IMDARKFIRE007
    @IMDARKFIRE007 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I mean, I've never known you to be rough with tents...I think the first issue is durability, it developed a hole pretty fast with someone who does things properly. That's a red flag to me, and the leak seals it's fate.

      @@ralphneelands3990 I get that, the idea with ultra light stuff is to baby it because it ISN'T super durable....but this is LUKE, one or two uses and he has a hole? That's when used by someone who knows their stuff backwards and forwards. Not to mention if the thing leaks, being ultra light don't mean squat.
