- a tribute, produced by me, for them ...........
this was the repatriation of 5 fellow Rifleman, and 3 other arms that I caught in transit, as I could'nt get to Wootton Basset on time, but found them on the A420 Swindon to Oxford, truly humbling.
I am a TA soldier, and have attended 2 homecomings through Wootton Basset of a fellow TA soldier Andrew Fentiman, and ex TA soldier (turned Para) Pete Cowton, from my TA regiment 7 Rifles, both killed in action.
These events brought out emotions I never knew I had in me, very humbling
Let's be very clear! To all the pricks bad mouthing our military, its place and actions in conflicts etc. Remember this!! It's because of our brave servicemen and women and their sacrifices is why you live in a country that allows you to voice your opinions regardless of how idiotic they are. 🇬🇧❤️
what brought a tear to my eye was when the woman bowed to the fallen, so full of dignity and respect .forget the politics,or right or wrong,the people commenting trying to sound intelligent.words are easy,actions count. they may be a rough lot,but for centuries they have been the best of us,
I think she may have been ex military because she went from at ease to attention as the convoy approached her
i have tears rolling down my face...watching these brave men and women come home. R.I.P. Makes me so proud to be british.
Very sad to watch this. Being an old veteran myself, it's one of the very few things that bring a lump to my throat. RIP

Myself deepest respect to these men. They served their country and paid the highest price. At least they should be threat well and honoured for their sacrifice 🙁
My deepest respect also to this special little gesture of the Woman. Simply but a way to honour these brave men.

Home at Last
They are home at last, these mother's sons, fine young men, their duty done,
Yet not for them the fond embrace, a loving kiss, a smiling face
Or cries of joy to laugh and cheer the safe return of one so dear,
It is their lot to show the world a soldier’s fate as flags unfurl
And Standards lower in salutation, symbols of a grateful nation.
Sombre now, the drum beats low, as they are carried, gentle, so
As if not to disturb their rest, by comrades, three and three abreast
Who now, as quiet orders sound, they, one by one then move around
To place them in the carriage decked with flowers in calm and hushed respect,
Preparing for the sad, slow ride through silent crowds who wait outside.
So the warriors now return to native soil and rightly earn
The great respect to those so young, though sadness stills the waiting throng,
While flowers strew the path they take, as the carriage slowly makes
A final turning to allow the veterans standing there to show
The soldiers pride, a silent, mute, proud and respectful last salute.
Yet, while onlookers stand and see the simple, moving ceremony,
There is a home, a place somewhere, where sits a waiting, vacant chair,
And one great yawning empty space in someone's heart, no last embrace
To bid a final, fond farewell to one who will forever dwell
In love and cherished memory, a Husband, Son, eternally.
And we who see should not forget that in these soldier's final debt
And sacrifice for duty's sake, it is the loved ones who must take
The hurt, to bear as best they can, and face a future lesser than
The one they dreamed in bygone years, now to regard with bitter tears,
Reflecting, as time intervenes, on thoughts of how it might have been.
But in their grief there's quiet pride that loved ones bravely fought and died
Believing in a worthy goal which helps give solace, and consoles
By knowing that the loss they bear is shared by all our peoples where
In gratitude, their names will be forever honoured, guaranteed
To be remembered and enshrined, beyond the shifting sands of time.
The final journey,very moving...........RIP brave souls.
Great respect to you who stood in respect. RIP to those who has fallen for us. Standing tall for you is the least we can do !

I had the honour of being in the burial party for 3 soldiers of 3RRF in 1975. I knew all of them. We lost 5 that year

nice to see this posted, our thoughts will be always be with all the familys who have been at wootten to bring their sons and daughters home. have carried my Associations Standard their a few times, a very emotional place to be when they are brought through the town. R.I.P
