@@markribkoff Thanks for letting me know. Yes, the northern route is awesome - we enjoyed Nova Scotia & Newfoundland so much, it was one of the highlights of our Atlantic circuit. We are going back to Newfoundland & NS in 2025 to cruise the whole season there . When are you planning to set off ?
@ no set plans currently as I’m between boats. I’m based on the westcoast of the USA. Deciding now between buying in Europe or the east coast of the US. We shall see which way the wind blows me in a few months.
Please you enjoyed the video and thanks for the comment. We will be coming to Newfoundland in June 2025. Going around the north coast to Madeleine Islands and PWE. Any cruising information, your best anchorages and must stop overs, will appreciated. Planning to go to Nova scotia (Halifax) via the Strait of Canso, not exploring Bras D'Or Lake. Hope to meet you in an anchorage for a wee dram and swapping of tales.
@ If you arrive in Madeleine Islands during during lobster season keep a very sharp lobster pot lookout and be careful as some of the lobster markers have line stringing multiple pots together. The Marina and village at Harve Albert was wonderful, entrance is narrow but very navigable, note the isophase light at Pointe a Fox to guide you through the channel to YK22. I sailed around the island of Ile Dentree, as beautiful as the island is the fishing fleet was NOT pleased with my rounding the western side. Recommend the pass between Sandy Hook and Ile Dentree:-). We stopped in Port Hawkesbury after the Canso Lock, nice marine. In PEI we stopped in at Souris Marina, they were undergoing installation of new floating docks friendly staff. I would be careful if dropping anchor during the lobster session. The fisherman make the waters choppy to tell you to find another spot. IF you do decide to go into Bras D’or, phone hours ahead to the Burnt Point Bridge to make sure it’s working. Safe travels.

Great video, thanks. What would be the best window to cross from Newfoundland to Azores. Is it the same window you mention from Bermuda or differs from that?
@@tommivainio1945 Hi , it is not the same window, which makes the route via NS and Newfoundland so awesome - you leave Bermuda in May, then you can cruise in NS & Newfoundland until end of July. I talk about it at the very end of the video. It is only 1250 nm , leaving just after a low, before the next low. We had great sail all the way to Flores in the Azores. Flying the kite the last few days and not motoring at all. Thanks for taking time to Watch the video and comment - much appreciated. Cheers
@Saga47swanSailing no, we will go direct heading to saint Lucia. What bearing do you think we can head towards straight away from Tenerife, would 241° be ok or would you think we would have to point further south first ? (I looked at that bearing to try to make it as short as possible)
@ difficult to say as it depends a lot weather system / location of the high, when you are leaving. Don’t forget to check the CAPE index in the weather models , the weather can be quite unpredictable / unstable around the Canaries. safe passage
Hi! Thanks for the video, very informative, have already saved it. I was wondering if it is a viable option to sail from Newfoudland to Greenland, Iceland, then to Faroe Islands and the UK. It'd probably take longer, specially for the views, and the arrival in Europe would be close to winter. Does the weather gets harder by this time there? I'm from brazil, so i have really no good idea of the weather so far north. Thanks for any input. All the best and fair winds!
Yes, it is a very viable option - It called the viking route and is an epic adventure. The longest passages are about 600 nm - Labrador to greenland & Greenland to Iceland. One would cross in July - Spending 3-4 months sailing Greenland - Iceland - Faroe - Shetland. You could winter in Scotland, then spend next season exploring the west coast of Norway. Follow your dreams
