    I love the way Roderick busted out Steve for not being there and the look on Steve’s face was priceless. My daddy was in and out and became sober when I was in my thirties. I accepted him right away and he spent the rest of his life being the great and different man my Ma said he would be if he got sober. Although she was jealous and resentful of him, I am forever grateful to God and the Salvation Army for aiding and assisting my Daddy with treatment and housing for the last 20 years in his life.

We need more conversations like this for men, young men, older men to encourage, elevate and empower each other which will also elevate and empower women too... I needed to hear your son say that. I was divorced and took care of three kids on my own. Their dad decided to bugger off. He fought me on everything. I did what I did for my children. I got no sleep for my kids. I helped them through school, watched all their games, graduations and other events Their dad did nothing. He left. Left me to care for them. When my kids graduated and moved out to further their college degrees my youngest contacted his dad. This made me mad. Made me upset and hurt. How could he go and have a relationship with his dad when his dad did nothing. Now that there was no more money to fork out he decides to let his son in. I was hurt. I get upset every time he would tell me. He doesn’t tell me often but it hurts when he did. But hearing your sons prospective made me realize why my son did what he did. I can now see it from my sons point of view and no longer from my stubborn , selflessness view. Thank you.

      This was genuinely beautiful to read as a young man in your sons position I contacted my not there father at 17 and hes been in and out of my life since then as strictly a friend based relationship with serious boundaries in place. So hearing this from you in the mother role helped me to realize how upset snd frustrated my mother could've been and possibly still is as shes never properly sat down with me and had a convo about why i texted him but now I'll ask to have one because like steve I'm her son but we both adults. I wish you and your son the best i can tell how amazing of a mother he has because you still acknowledge your faults and missteps and I hope yall relationship only continues to bloom into something better after both of us gaining new perspectives

      I actually think you are 100% correct in your initial feelings. It is deeply unfair for you to make those sacrifices and then for your son to go and buddy up with his absentee father. Children have obligations and loyalties to the person or people who raised them, first and foremost.

    • @lonezome
      @lonezome ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@natedogyoung unequivocally untrue. As an 18 year old whose dad has recently passed away, I can tell you that you’re wrong on a massive level. My dad was never around much, but my mom was always supportive of me having a relationship with my father. He’s my FATHER. Being raised by someone does not make you obligated to one parent. I’m very happy my mom was so supportive the way she was. I was able to get memories of my dad before he passed away, and I wouldn’t trade the world for it.

    • @leslieroycroft3569
      @leslieroycroft3569 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@natedogyoung the sacrifices are what they are but we don’t own our children. We raise them to make choices and go out in the world. They don’t have an owner. As a human they have a right to know and understand the other half of their DNA. They need questions answered as to why they may have certain personality traits, talents, health concerns (both mental and physical) Good and bad, so that they may learn and maybe not repeat the bad. I hate that so many woman have to do this on their own but there is always 2 sides. It’s wrong, tragic whatever -that some men leave and don’t help but many times women fight unfair as well. They don’t want to admit it and it’s absolutely not their “fault” but sometimes they push the men away and then blame them for not being there. Sometimes the guy is just a jerk. Sometimes the woman doesn’t even tell the kid that the guy did anything at all when that’s not actually the case. I’ve know people in every one of these situations. It’s only fair the kids get to talk to their biological father to hear what he has to say.

    This is a SHOUT OUT to all Dads who stepped up and raised another man's children. When I met my wife she had 2 kids and I had 2 kids. We've been married 14 years and never had kids together. In our family "step" is a cuss word. All these kids are our kids and now grandkids. It takes a real man to not run from responsibility, work out the issues, and make a family. However there's times when 2 people can't work out the issues for whatever reason so I believe that an even better real man is one who raises another man's kids and loves them just like they're his. I have all my kids names tattooed in my skin whether they have the same last name means nothing to me. They're all my kids and I love them all dearly.

    My son grew up in a house full of women. He always wanted to join the military so I was worried about him having a good male influence. We found a branch of the Air Training Corp where he could be with decent men, and other lads learning to fly, going to military bases etc. He had the time of his life, and it was affordable for me as a single mother. I knew he had decent men around him and was learning that disapline wasn't just at home, but something to live by in society. And I have to say that he is the best father to his children

Bcz I realize What my life purpose is & why I struggled similar to these men on stage. And it was all for me to be able to help the next young man coming behind me facing these similar circumstances, helping to lead forward… The conversation felt super safe, but still bluntly honest & REAL, both is important when having touchy conversation. I absolutely love how vulnerable everyone was & skin color wasn’t a factor. Just some men coming together expressing REAL issues that seem to be taboo conversation

    My dad was in his early 30’s when he had me and sister, we’re twins.
    We always had father sons, father daughters conversations just like this ever since we were toddlers.
    Some of the things our dad taught me and my sister.
    “Just because you make mistakes, doesn’t make you two the mistakes.”
    He said that to us both from grade school to now.
    I can tell it wasn’t easy to two hardheaded twins in this world, but he made it happen.
    My dad is the realest men I ever known for 24 years.
    Some of friends of mine lost their fathers unexpectedly, they passed away and walked away from no reason. They always say at least you have a dad that’s in your life.
    I mean every piggyback ride, every PTA meeting, every birthday,
    Every lesson, every chat doesn’t go unseen and unheard.
    Stand up straight, shoulders back and use your words.
    If I never had my dad in my life,
    I wouldn’t have learned the lessons of manhood.
    He even serve in the military and taught us to respect and love veterans.
    Happy Father’s Day to our dad.
    Again, he knows it wasn’t easy to be a dad but you did it and never quit.
    I love you endlessly

    A show like this should be on network television. The outreach and networking would be a game changer for youth that need help growing up being the men they should be.

    Man I can really relate to Michael, the second guy who talked around 2 minutes in. I've been through that. Stay away from my own father to make my mom happy, or get in touch with my father because he's my father and I miss him and I want a relationship with him.

    Steve, you’re right about technology. I really believe that it’s ruining our children. Family time, eating meals together & just communicating with each other is rapidly becoming a thing of the past! What people thought was a blessing; turned into a curse & has & is destroying the family unit!!! Last, but certainly 😅not least; where is our Lord Jesus in family’s lives? If there’s ever been a time to communicate with each other & pray together; it’s NOW! Thank you Steve & Lord bless you.
